TB does not need "internet medical expert" advice. TB needs your well wishes or prayers. Any derailment consisting of "alternative medical treatments" will be moderated. |

The doctors may have judged that the prognosis wouldn't be much better, liver transplant or not. This may be due to the operation potentially taking a toll on his body and due to the immunosuppressive treatment that he would require after the operation. Alternatively, they may have calculated that there is a low chance of surviving the actual transplant procedure.
Good luck with the chemotherapy, TB.

TotalBiscuit - your cure is Cannabis oil, not chemo. I am so mad on all those people thinking there is no cure, for giving up so easily. Cannabis oil will save your life. Listen to me... If you say this to enough people you'll eventually get one to listen and they'll die because of you. You should probably read a bit about this before dismissing it so fast.
Anyways, since doctors told TB they cannot help him anymore he has nothing to lose by trying some alternative medicine. I know I would without a second though. Research first what is most promising and then try it.

Horrible news. Stay strong TB. You are an incredible person.
My dad works in the ER treating people on Kemo. It's a terrible thing. Often times he says it's worse than the disease.

Research first what is most promising and then try it. I suspect anyone with liver cancer and the internet will stumble upon tens of alleged treatments and miracle cures with no way to know if it's legitimate outside of amazing testimonials that don't refer to the people who have refused medical treatment and have died as a direct result.
Now sure, research these things, some may be promising. But a dude with 26 posts fanatically writing that chemo will "make it much worse" and that TB should "listen to him" does not inspire confidence. The delivery is reminiscent of how anti-vaxxers communicate.
I'm sure TB will be exposed to a variety of treatments, but I would NEVER go against medical advice. This makes me angry because people shouldn't give medical advice like that. Like I said, if you tell people not to get chemo, maybe they'll listen, and that has consequences. This guy suggesting not to get chemo, in my opinion, is straight up dangerous. Thankfully TB is not susceptible to this kind of stuff but other people might be.
TLDR: Reading a blog and watching youtube does not make you a fucking doctor. Amateur medical advice is dangerous. If you think people should try a thing, mention it - don't say to quit chemo. If you think you know what treatment a person needs off of a few lines of tweet, you're crazy.

Its due to the fact that the cancer in his liver is a secondary cancer. Which means that the cancer has metastasized from his bowel to his liver. A liver transplant would do nothing because its systemic now. It could flare up anywhere at any time.
Actually that's not strictly true. A liver transplant might help a little for a very short while, but there's every possibility it'd just turn up again. So it'd be a hugely invasive, expensive and resource intensive procedure which would require a bunch of immunosuppressants that both will not cure him and will only likely work very temporarily.

No...cannabinoids are primarily used to assist in treatment of nausea and pain. There as been some tentative suggestions of direct action on cancers in restricting growth but, to my knowledge, nothing firm and definitely nothing on killing cancer outright.

This, absolutely. You should not go against medical advice of a doctor like that. Chemotherapy is a well established treatment, well-researched procedure that absolutely does help in the treatment of cancer.
TB is smart enough to listen to what his doctors are telling him, though. So I'm not too worried that random people on the internet will persuade him to go off and do something random.

Sometimes I don't know what is worse, terminal diseases or the bullshit alternative medicines some people are trying to sell to people who has no other to way turn too.
The most common "alternative" medicine I always hear about in various disease cases where a cure is hard to find is Homeopathy;
Let's say you have a some kind of mercury poising, what homeopathy then tells you to do is that you take a single drop of mercury and then dilute it with water to extreme levels into a solution and then you drink it and you will be cured. In fact the more diluted the solution is the more powerful it is.
Just to give an example of just how diluted this has to be, take the smallest unit of ANYTHING, doesn't matter what and put it into a glass of water, then pour that glass of water into the sea, wait till its mixed perfectly ( a couple of months wait time) then return and scope up a glass of water that and then you will have a cure!
This is just as scientific as blood-letting, only difference is that people are selling this shit to people and they are earning tons of cash doing it.

Cancer can kill, but it can not kill Starcraft passion!
I really hope this will be another SanDisk Invitational, or potentially something he was working on with MLG .
All the best to you TB!

Yeah I read some of this homeopathic stuff and the bullshit is obvious. There is nothing wrong with trying some of it ALONG WITH chemo and proper, scientifically proven treatments, but replacing it is idiotic. Lest we forget how "smart" Steve Jobs was, dying to what was effectively a mild cancer that had a high survival rate using chemotherapy, because he believed in snake oil homeopathy and not science. Since this diagnosis I've actually grown to hate that guy, as awful as it is to speak ill of the dead. He had a lucky break and squandered it, many of us would kill for that opportunity.
I am well aware of CBD. CBD is not a cure, CBD can help in many ways and has no adverse effects, so sure, use it alongside chemo, not INSTEAD of chemo.
Homeopathy has no basis in science. Whats the old adage? "You know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine". Dietary changes? Sure, some basis in science, I'm moving over to ketogenic at the moment. CBD? Sure, it's good, I know from experience, but it's not a cancer cure, it's an aid in the process. I have access to some extremely good oncologists in this area, I'm 2 hours away from Duke, they're really good at what they do and have the latest technology. My trust is going in them, qualified professionals.

So many damn wannabe doctors in this thread. Given what he's actually told us, any Oncologist would tell you one thing: "I need to see the file." Because we have no real information, and to be honest, we don't need it. All we need to know is that he's sick, it's bad, and anything we can do to help, we should.

If you have no idea don't try to prove others wrong. Go prove yourself wrong.
