Honestly, I think every player should receive the same amount. If Koreans need more compensation for their flights because they live miles and miles away, then there is actually a tournament in their own country (GSL) for them to compete in! [<-- not a serious argument] Plus, Major is still outside of the country and needs an international flight.
But, Major should just try and be smart about this. If he complains (personally) to ESL/whoever the hell about it, I'd be a bit surprised if they didn't decide to cough up the rest of the costs, as Major is (currently) the only North American in the Ro16. He probably brings in quite a few views for that.
If they don't decide to cover the costs, however, I am 100% certain that he could crowd-fund the rest quite easily. I'd pay a couple $'s to guarantee seeing Major in the Ro16, even if he did get knocked out from the get-go, and I almost never pay any money for e-sports stuff.
On another note entirely... I wonder why Major hasn't joined a team again or tried to pick up sponsors, as he still clearly plays the game actively. I can understand not wanting to have to deal with the shit that comes with a team, but if you want to keep playing the game, I imagine a team helps to sustain that...

Major ends up paying out of his own pocket for only the potential of an increase in prize money. Currently as a top 16 player he gets $2000. If he travels and loses, he gets $2000 less $300 for his expenses, or $1700. If he travels and wins he gets $3000 less $300 for his costs or $2700. He's guaranteed to spend $300 or w/e travelling, he's not guaranteed to earn money from doing so, is his argument. His complaint is not in any way legit. It costs more for Koreans to travel, it's a massive burden on the teams. WCS had NO support for Koreans travelling outside of Korea last year, meaning Axiom racked up over $15,000 in flights. $1,000 doesn't cover the whole thing unless we get lucky either, but it's a damn sight better than what we got last year (nothing). The competition really isn't trying to reduce the number of Koreans, it's only trying to slow down the rate at which they qualify. American players aren't good enough to compete against the Koreans which is why there are so few left in the competition, as a result Blizzard decided not to fuck over the teams and players that had earned their way into that tournament by qualifying. Good for them. He also knew from the very start of this season what the levels of compensation were, since they were given out to everyone before Season 1 qualifiers even began. MajOr whines, it's what he does, this shouldn't surprise anyone.
It's all fair to me that Koreans get support to come and play the WCS, just one question, don't you think that the cap should be the same for every country out of US/Canada? I mean if suddenly South of Argentina become the place where the best players come from, their expenses will be high as well, maybe not Korea high, but way more than NA high. MajOr won his spot fair and square as well, shouldn't he get the same support as your players?

Also did the Koreans get "more" support? No as far as I know the stipend Blizzard provides only covers part of the flight cost for Koreans and Chinese as well, they will have to pay the rest out of their pocket as well and pay much much more, unless you are really really lucky and found something like 950$ round trip (last year it took me over a week to find a 970$ round trip ticket for my Blizzcon travel, the majority of prices I found were around 1100-1300$, and that's not even direct flight), expect a 500$ payment while Major only have to pay like 200 tops. That's completely unnecessary complain out there.

What he said. I would be very surprised if MajOrs flight actually cost more than $500 from Mexico, though I don't know exactly where he lives in the country. If we get a flight from Korea to LA for under $1000, then we got lucky.

Two tournaments with same prizepool. I've made it clear that the top heavy approach they went with for GSL is in my opinion ridiculous.

They are completely legit. We've used those services before (though we've had the most luck and best service with Cheapoair for flights for our players).
Like I said I dunno where he lives in Mexico, but I cannot conceive a situation where his flight would actually cost over $500. His tweets indicate he has no idea what he is talking about, making claims like Blizzard said only NA players will get flight stipends which as of the 2014 season is completely false. He's acting up for whatever reason, it's a complete non-issue.

IIRC either the players or the GSL itself requested that particular prize pool set up, I don't think Blizz had anything to do with it.

so glad to see USA player advance - too many koreans already
polt fighting !!!

I was going to post a wall, but decided to just mention that i don't think american players suck, and i don't think everyone must play on Code S level to provide entertainment. I also wanna see players from all over the world on diverse competitions. I would rather see a few top 400 korean retiring than see the best american players retiring because all tournaments are played by the same koreans. Let's try to secure a place for as much people as possible, otherwise SC2 will fade away fast as an Esport. Got a little of topic, im not defending Major here.

If you increase prize money for GSL and move all the Koreans from the other WCS regions, you have probably over 100 Premier League (in EU and AM) worthy Koreans fighting for the top spots and fewer of them could make this their career.

@TB I'm surprised that you are able to find flights close to $1000. With the time constrains you have between when your player qualifies to go to events should make it very tough for you. Personally the round-trip flights I can take between Michigan and Korea cost me close to 1500 on average.
I don't know what could possibly make Major's trip that expensive. A week of all inclusive hotel (open bar and 3 restaurant meals) + flight to Cancun cost me $550 in 2009. I get that the costs to stay couple nights in the US might me a bit more expensive, but I doubt that it would cost him $300 more.
