Seriously more so than WCS behaving badly(which is true) this is even worse by Major.
He should have contacted WCS instead of just whining publically asking for attention and practically begging for money. Feel bad for the Chinese guys now that would have had to pay more from their own pocket but who were willing to do so to play Starcraft.

Great by major to advance, of course this is a complaint, but not only is this complaint legitimate (can't imagine him earning much) he could also decline to compete, and then people would just badmouth him more...well, fucked if you pay, and fucked if you don't. When it comes to money especially, everyone has a right to voice their opinion on how much they're willing to fork out.

Refused to help with what though? There's travel stipends for the tournament he is participating in and he chose to participate.

well, yes, but it'd be absurdly daft to not go. he's just won $1k, and even if he's estimating that he'd have to fork out $250 of his own cash, then a) he's just won $1k and b) if he's better than a 7-1 shot to qualify it's +EV to go

of course if there wasn't this obsession with playing so much offline, it wouldn't be a problem

Pretty legit complaint if they are giving Koreans more than Americans as a stipend for their costs, considering the competition is trying to reduce the number of Koreans participating.

Major ends up paying out of his own pocket for only the potential of an increase in prize money.
Currently as a top 16 player he gets $2000.
If he travels and loses, he gets $2000 less $300 for his expenses, or $1700.
If he travels and wins he gets $3000 less $300 for his costs or $2700.

He's guaranteed to spend $300 or w/e travelling, he's not guaranteed to earn money from doing so, is his argument.

The travel stipends are for travel and as travel for Koreans is more expensive there's a bigger stipend there. If instead of stipends they paid for flights then they would be spending more as well on the long distance flights. The stipends are meant to resemble that situation. I am sincerely confused by him having an issue with this since it was decided before the season started and certainly way before he qualified.

His complaint is not in any way legit. It costs more for Koreans to travel, it's a massive burden on the teams. WCS had NO support for Koreans travelling outside of Korea last year, meaning Axiom racked up over $15,000 in flights. $1,000 doesn't cover the whole thing unless we get lucky either, but it's a damn sight better than what we got last year (nothing).

The competition really isn't trying to reduce the number of Koreans, it's only trying to slow down the rate at which they qualify. American players aren't good enough to compete against the Koreans which is why there are so few left in the competition, as a result Blizzard decided not to fuck over the teams and players that had earned their way into that tournament by qualifying. Good for them.

He also knew from the very start of this season what the levels of compensation were, since they were given out to everyone before Season 1 qualifiers even began.

MajOr whines, it's what he does, this shouldn't surprise anyone.

He should just go, since he gets more money anyway, Esports organizations are not making piles of money so i understand if they are a little cheap.
*edited: So he was well aware that only 500$ would be covered, nothing to complain about.
If he does not go, he should get prize money as if he was eliminated in round of 32, its only fair.
Also, its great that round of 16 is offline since the lag was terrible in round of 32.
In PvZ the zerg can make the situation spire out of control but protoss can adept to the situation.

that's the reason why less stipends should be given to koreans. it's not practical in any shape or form to fly 12+ of them over to america for the ro16. as a result this will disincentivise them (well, not all of them) from participating in WCS NA, meaning that more money can be allocated to actual americans.

Nice result. Glad to see the Terrans making it through.

There are almost twice as much terrans compared to protoss in Ro16 (5 to 3)
If 2 zergs (out of 3) advance in the next group, half of the Ro16 will be zergs.

But I guess people will continue to complain about toss nonetheless

So, you are telling me that MajOr knew before the competition started that the travel expenses were $500 for NA and now after qualifying he wants ESL to give him more money because... because what? He knew before hand!!!
I hope that if he does not go to the Ro16, ESL will not give him his prize money of $3000 because he will have forfeited and only give him the $2000 he already won! You have to show up and compete to get the $3000. A deal is a deal, you can not ask for more money after you qualify! Who does he think he is??? I WAS rooting for him but i'm not anymore!
I'd like to help! :)

Except the Americans aren't good enough to deserve it. Don't get me wrong I was in favour of region lock when we started but it's too far gone now not to have massive consequences.

My guys are better than any American, so they should get punished for that and we as a team should get massively burdened with flight costs just because the American players couldn't keep up? WCS America is too far gone, it's GSL2 now. Teams are cash-strapped as it is, removing support does nothing but relegate a bunch of Korean players to Code B because there are too many good players in Korea and not enough tournaments for them to play in. Teams like Axiom and Liquid should not be punished just because America sucks at Starcraft and Blizzard agreed with us which is why they gave us stipends this year.

I dunno man, maybe if MajOr wanted to be in a better financial situation he shouldn't have forfeited SHOUTcraft America Winter mid-series and in doing so basically killed the future of the tournament. No sympathy from me, sorry.

the question goes back to how many koreans do we need playing starcraft in NA. I think 3-4 big names are good, but certainly not 12+. what is good for the scene is the scenario of mostly americans playing in WCS NA, although let's be frank, their chances of winning the top prize are still slim.

"deserve" is an iffy word. it's like asking how many people deserve american citizenship.

How many bad American players do we need taking spots from hard-working Korean players?

Don't get me wrong, I think there should be a tournament that is all-American (I tried to make one, MajOr forfeited it), but that can't be WCS NA anymore, it's too far gone. All you do is disenfranchise a bunch of people that worked hard to get there (sorry, but all my guys qualified fair and square, vs the Americans in 2013 S1 who were seeded in for free) and replace them with players who are worse at the game than they are.

If you want an American tournament, great. But you'll have to get us another regular Korean tournament to play in then.
