With the conclusion of the Open Qualifier, the final bracket for the 2014 IEM World Championship has been set:
Roccat.HyuN and mouz.Dear were able to triumph over fourteen other players at the live, open qualifier in Katowice to claim the final two spots in the sixteen-man main event. The other spots had been awarded through a mixture of online qualifiers and seeds for high placements at prior IEM events.
HyuN was the first player to come out of the live qualifier, defeating Forte, Nerchio, Dear, and HasuObs without dropping a single map. HyuN's Zerg vs. Protoss looked particularly deadly, as he was able to overwhelm all of his opponents with any lair-tech units of his choosing, whether they were mutalisks, roaches, or hydralisks.
Though Dear was trounced by HyuN in the winner's bracket, he reeled off a series of wins against Leenock, Jaedong, and HasuObs to claim the final spot in the main event. Outside of his loss to HyuN, Dear also did not drop a single map to his opponents.
Unfortunately for the fans in the host city of Katowice, Poland, no Polish players were able to qualify. Acer's Nerchio made it the furthest through the qualifier, but was eliminated in the loser's semifinal by Jaedong.
Mousesport's HasuObs had by far the best showing of all the non-Korean players in the open qualifier, coming within one series victory of qualifying for the main event. Along the way, HasuObs recorded series wins over both Leenock and Jaedong, showing solid, all-around play.
The round of sixteen will be played on Friday, March 14th starting at 12:00 GMT (+00:00). The round of eight and semifinals will be played the next day, starting at the same time. The grand finals will take place on Sunday, March 16th at 14:30 GMT (+00:00). Please check the official IEM site for the full schedule.
The IEM World Championship will award the entirety of its $100,000 prize to the winner. As a WCS "Tier 1" event, it will also distribute 7000 WCS points to the players.

Calling it now, Scoobers somehow escapes elimination in the Open qualifier, gets in the Ro16, and doesn't drop a map on his way to claim the $100,000. Then retires for life.

If Polt crumbles hard again and NaNi SOMEHOW can win against him, then he really can go ham. sOs got nice bracket tho, can get revenge on TaeJa for Dreamhack Winter.

ez vZ vs Rogue and then either Taeja or Stardust, both of which are beatable. Taeja hasn't looked very good in TvZ recently (lost 0-4 to Ragnarok just a few days ago and barely beat Revival 3-2 two days earlier) and Stardust's recent PvZ history tells me that he's among the more beatable Protosses in Katowice.
Best-case scenario would be sOs going out to Oz, in which case Life would have the best possible road to the finals

StarDust is probably hating this draw more than everyone lol. Getting TaeJa first and even if he wins - then Zerg? And then probably best Protoss in the world right now? Holy moly, StarDust, you're really unlucky this time.
And herO can go out in first round already considering Hyun's form in open bracket, even if he has ridiculous PvZ.

I guess, understanding of matchup > practice. Especially in PvP.
