At least have the large effect size for dragoons, if nothing else. I think it would be funny to specifically try to give dragoons worse pathfinding than other units.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

New version of Sbow Pathing Test is up.

It has the small effect for small units (lings, marines, hydras) and large effect for big units (roach, siege tank, dragoons).

Couple of comments:

If all you care about is aesthetics, then the pathing change was great. Nice job, it really looks nice.

However, I really think that this pathing misses out of the most important aspect of unit spreading: namely, the fact that in Broodwar, it was actually difficult to keep units together. The pathing created limbo lines rather quickly, making moving armies across the map difficult. It required the player to pull back units, regroup, and move again. This created an interesting dynamic where you could just move straight across the map if you were in a hurry, but you would be vulnerable (because you are in a limbo line formation). To keep your army in a powerful ball formation, you needed to take significantly longer to move.

I always really liked that tradeoff and I feel that the new pathing doesn't do that at all.

We had a pathing that actually did that before. SC2 players just couldn't come to grips with it, even some BW vets who got accustomed to armies making timely movements instead of derping on their merry way in the sc2 engine disliked it as well.

Armies getting stuck on corners and just taking forever to get places, it was seen as an annoyance by several old school SBOW playtesters like Hider to name one.

You've never needed dark swarm vs mech. It was just broken vs it before, now you have to play against mech properly, with mass hydra muta and good economic timings.

Now that darkswarm has been fixed, we are thinking about how we want to buff it. Wether it may be the range, radius or duration is beeing evaluated. Because smartcast we have to make the appropriate balance between these properties.

Is smartcast actually considered a major reason to keep d swarm weak? I don't find it makes that much difference.

Have you looked into making it possible to plague and d swarm with the same defiler like you could in bw? It would greatly improve the versatility of defilers late game, particularly vs terran.

Two things:

1, Starbow testmap, Sbow pathfinding test, now has a new stalker damage which shuld make PvP not all about stalkers while not making them useless.

Old Stalker:
8 dmg vs everything (including shields, except light)
12 dmg vs light.

24 shots to kill a dragoon

Test stalker:
10 dmg vs light and shields
7.5 dmg vs medium
5 dmg vs armored.

31 shots to kill a dragoon.

Please test in PvP to see if they are still usefull but does not kill everything. Also test in PvZ to see if they are still useful there.

Also photon cannons in testmap has gone from 1.75 attack speed to 1.5 attack speed. Test all sort of dirty hydra busts to see if it is easier to hold. It should never be too easy though.

2. All players playing in the Starbow ladder cup! See http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/index.php?title=Starbow_ladder_cup_1/Event_2 for player list. You not there? Then check your inbox (e-mail) and replay asap!

I been following the discussions in starbow forums about # of players on ladder declining but I cba to register there as well so let me leave my suggestions here.
I seen people mention Project M there more than once as an example where a community mod became popular. Maybe it would be a good idea to reach out to that community and find out in detail how did they do this?
Maybe it wasn't just luck.

And about lack of lower level players, that will not fix itself. As such a player myself, I mostly wanted to use Eros to get to play games faster as couple of my early tries using starbow chat ended in nobody answering. I don't really care much about my points and such. I am not playing as much as I want to, but that is more due to having real life obligations.
Anyways, I would suggest implementing something similar to unranked ladder for new players, something to help with ladder anxiety. And you will need to bring attention to the game again to people, including the ones that tried it already.

Best way would be to find well known players willing to do 1v1 bo7 showmatches in Starbow and cast them live. Then during those showmatches advertise changes to ladder for new players. Known players will bring in more viewers than any tournament with unknown players.
Ladder Starbow cup is a good way to motivate people that already play the ladder to play more, but it will not bring in new players.
Even better way would be to have another Invitational but that would take more money and more known players.

And as I mentioned earlier, try to contact indie friendly gaming sites and see if they are willing to write articles about Starbow and if they are, time those with the Showmatches (and let articles invite players to watch the showmatch).

None of this is easy, but I am sure you "the creators" want to see your baby succeed even more than us the players.

I wish you best of luck.

I would love to see a showmatch between TLO and WhiteRa... :D WhiteRa was a great EU BW player so he could be a good opponent to TLO whose mechanics are superior :D
Now that TLO is out of WCS EU maybe he would be interested in some Starbow
