Very cool mod, great work. (Y)

I must say though seeing another body of work from a group of hobbyist modders be superior to the full-timers at blizzard is pretty fucking sad.
I stopped playing sc2 right before the end of WoL hoping HotS might do the unthinkable and become a great game. After a few months into HotS i saw nothing much different and decided not to purchase it.
As a long-time wc3 fan I felt a little hurt the game died and what I deemed to be a lesser game, sc2, took over.
So I guess I'll keep dreaming that either blizzard does something drastic and makes sc2 into something worthy of the expectations they've set in the marketplace, OR everybody gives them the finger and the community as a whole swaps to one of these mods.

After playing a few games, I feel this mod is a near flawless combination of BW and SC2. Obviously problems will arise, but the fundamentals are solid as far as I can tell. As a SC2 player its very easy to jump right into the game because it takes a lot of the basic controls and tech paths from SC2, but it still feels like I'm playing BW in terms of the game itself. The addition of SC2 units is also cool, because the game doesn't feel like a BW clone, but rather a logical step forward. Perhaps the most impressive thing is how It feels right at home in the SC2 engine, unlike SC2BW for instance which feels unpolished.

Somewhat off topic, this game clearly demonstrates the need for economy changes and unit/race design tweaks in SC2. Even if you think SC2 is better than BW/SB, you have to admit the pace of SB feels MUCH better. In SC2 I feel the game hits a certain point where you are making so much money on 3 bases (easy to defend) and there's no reason to expand beyond 3 bases, so deathballing is inevitable. In SB low econ skirmishes and harassment are much more common (and effective). I actually have the option to expand beyond 3 bases, and this creates so many more strategic options in the late game. SB is proof of the idea that SC2 NEEDS economy changes.

I fear that this project could potentially become another OneGoal: A better SC2 [Project Hub] , which may be a better game than current sc2 but is nowhere near as mainstream as normal ladder. Unless a significant number of players, especially influencial community figures, switch to starbow, I don't know if it can become big enough. Mass immigration to starbow while it is still a hot topic would be a requirement. If everything works well, starbow has chance to become David who beats Goliath called Blizzard.

Hmmm, you might want to be careful with that. The SB team have been clear that they see the mod as a way to influence Blizzard in their design choices, not as a replacement to SC2. At the same time, some people who are angry and frustrated with Blizzard will see this as a way to put forth their own agenda. Other people should tone down their own expectations.

No-one in SC2, and certainly neither SC2 or SB, benefits by that.

What's the current map pool? I know you were using a bunch of Mereel's maps earlier and recently added a couple BW ports by Iezael, but could you please put up a full list? I think the fact that the mod is optimized and balanced for more BW-style maps (much greater variation in chokes vs. open spaces) is another important point.

Great mod btw, hope this becomes more popular. I definitely need to try some games sometime.

That is indeed the goal!!!

We've had years of development to figure out what is anti fun and have patched accordingly. Right now we are looking at reapers vs lings for instance, that might get a slight adjustment. Same with queen enrage.

Could you please impliment new models for the non-SC2 units... Some of them don't fit in.. There was a reddit thread a couple of months ago with really well made BW unit models.

Also spells like dark swarm could also be made more visible.

I haven't played Starbow since early 2011, I really need to get back into it

There is no ladder, ranking, or matching, right? It won't get serious, steady play until something like that is possible. It would be interesting if that happened.

I definitely think SB has a niche, though... It's probably not going to convert many current BW players (Coming from experience, closely involved with the BW community), so I'd focus my attention to the people who either played BW and switched and are unsatisfied with SC2 currently or the people who are interested in BW, but either don't play it because it's old or because it's significantly more mechanically demanding than SC2 or anything else that they've probqbly ever played.

Also I'm pretty sure that if SB could be marketed properly it could bring in people who already quit.

Ohh and the MOD currently seems extremely varried when it comes to model and spell quality, in short it's not as polished as HOTS which is understandable, but that should really be dealt with because it may potentially act as a deterrent, I might be putting to much emphasis into this one, but I've seen way to many players just not give BW a shoot just because it doesn't have modern graphics like SC2.

I have watched only one match Ryung vs Impact but that was way more boring than hots TvZ. Less fights, everything looked more slow, I didnt see that much great micro....

"Less fights" Not really.

Also you managed to watch the absolute worst match between two people who had never played the mod, then judged the whole mod on that basis which sounds really dumb to me. Watch the first match of SC2 played, it's fucking awful. You cannot possibly expect matchs to be incredible when the players have no experience in the mod.

Watch a PvT, then tell me there are less fights and it's more boring.
