It's what I'm doing, and will encourage others to do the same. considering the state of korean sc2 i would really not suggest you start the blockade agains them.dota2 is growing in korea.its not like they are 100% dependent on sc2 anymore.besides the reason they renounced the videoplayer in the first place most likely means they were not making enough money from subscriptions to keep them online. Just because GOM's the biggest player in Korean SC2 does not mean I should support them in everything they do. That would give them a blank check on making mistakes. If they make decisions that lowers the quality of the experience, then people should respond accordingly, putting pressure on them to fix those mistakes. Hitting them in their numbers is the best way to do so. I will not support bad decisions. And I encourage others to do the same.

This line, this one right here:
GOMTV, known as the global standard for eSports, will shift gears into GOM eXP which will specialize as an eSports and Game Contents Experts Group.
That gives me pause. Because it sounds like a positioning statement going from "people that produce content" to "people who provide consulting and services to people that produce content". It goes along with the name change, as well, where the new name sounds more like a knowledge/services company that knows what it does.
I don't foresee any change to the leagues and such immediately, but it does worry me a bit. I mean, if they lose support for a game from the publisher does that mean they will curtail or stop producing content for it? (Blizzard provides $$ and support, as does Wargaming.net (for WoT). Not sure about CS:GO, Dota2, or Sudden Attack, although it wouldn't surprise me if they also provided $$ support.)
I dunno, Kev. I just get a sense of foreboding. Maybe it's the slightly off corporate speak and new site, which seems more of a marketing showcase than a content showcase.
(Gomtv.net doesn't redirect there. That's reassuring. Also, ArtPylon for everyone.)

nexon provides all the money for dota2.i also have a feeling gom are sort of striding away from organizing esports tournaments to something more minor.dunno.maybe the esports scene in korea is not as big as everyone here likes to believe.there was also that company that was organizing mbc back in the bw days that switched to being a music station.also ogn and kespa like to drive their competitors out of business
@dabom88
well its your money so you do what you want with it but maybe the adverse effect might happen.maybe seeing all the negative reactions they might reconsider their involvement in sc2.

Well that was the final kick in my face from GOM this year. They have been awesome since the launch of SC2 but this year it was dissapointment after dissapointment. It was a good run but i am done with them.

All hail the e-sports monopoly™

Noooooo. I exclusively watched through GOM!! I dont' want to deal with Twitch!!!
|
I reciprocate the feelings of the majority here...
The GOM TV player and their VOD system worked like a gem!
Twitch TV on the other hand has yet to operate smoothly and without issue. I have subscribed to Twitch content containing VOD's in the past, and it has been nothing but a nightmare to navigate and locate specific VOD's - let alone be spoiled by the seemingly backward and random layout of said VOD's . Furthermore, Twitch VOD's require an absurd amount of time to buffer in HD (ultimately forcing me to view in a lower, watchable quality).
I have been a yearly subscriber over at GOM TV for the better part of 2 years now, and if Twitch doesn't make some major changes to correct their glaring issues, than I will unfortunately have to pass on the GSL subscription come 2014.

Wait so no more high quality DOTA twitch w/o subscriptions anymore??? OGN got a lot of hate for doing this during the invitational...

This. The price for me was always greatly due to how awesome the VOD pages were. Whereas on twitch it's utterly impossible to find a good VOD... I'm fine with the Twitch streaming, but they should have their own VOD system using Twitch's videos. i think they announced all of the videos will be on youtube. Only the old ones from 2010 to 2012, new ones will be behind the pawall on Twitch. I hope they keep their indexing scheme on their own webpage, with links to the appropriate Twitch page, maybe? That way they could circumvent the absolutely shit VOD system of Twitch. I also hope there's some sort of indexing system for the YouTube videos for the 2010 through 2012 seasons. It all sounds great, but we're talking about hundreds and hundreds of VODs... I hope they really will put ALL of the 2010-2012 VODs on YouTube, including Code A, U&D, the side tournaments (like AoL, etc). I have been catching up on 2011 GSL seasons I missed and was halfway through the 2011 October U&D. Now the videos are gone, replaced with a "this video will be on YouTube soon" message.
They can make playlists on youtube but yes, it is a lot of videos, you really need a good search engine if you want people to find it effectively.

this is kind of sad, twitch always streamed worse for me then gom did and i love how smooth and seamless the vod auto play was too.
|
wow gomtv committing suicide.. very sad, now gsl will be unwatchable and there will be no reason to buy the ticket cause you never will get more than 480p on twitch anyways so why bother..
soooo sad

So far i'm running Source without any problems, which almost never happens.
Maybe GOM has a special deal with Twitch for them to use real servers ?
|
ok. Gave it a shot. Am disappointed. 50$ for a crappy experience. wtf?
Navigation on twitch is a joke. VODs don't work. Only VODs working right now are the 2nd Sets of each of the two matches.
I loved you GOM. I really did. What have you done?

I agree. Plus, they listened to feedback and applied it quickly.
I remember when ratings came out, I disliked it because it spoilered the series (if a favorite won, it got high ratings, if a favorite lost, it got really low ratings). After the feedback came, they made it so ratings were hidden by default.
They did a good job at listening to feedback. Going to miss their site for VoDs .

I remember watching streams from GOM from the lego dimension (reading supply numbers was impossible), and twitch buffering like mad, seems to me that regardless of what provider you use there will always be issues for some people. Will wait it out to see if situation improves.
|
I liked GomTV! The VOD section was really well organized and their streaming worked very well. v_v
|
Guess I won't be buying a years pass this year, twitch sucks ass, Wonder if that money saved on bandwidth will cover the inevitable decline in subscriptions over time. I'm thinking no.
|
so here's my question: i know own3d went bust, but what happened to the other 1-2 streaming services? they're sadly underused (they're probably awful- forgg was using one i believe), but i'm kind of fed up with twitch tbh. is there any realistic competition on the horizon that i'm missing?
|
ok VODs are up now. Unsorted AND I can see how many sets were played per match. This is a HUGE step backward. I feel like it's 2010 all over again. Seriously I don't have any motivation do watch a match when I already know who won the whole thing at the time I see who won the first set.
Do they even care?! ...
there is much work to do. Hopefully they get their things together over at twitch. Isn't that hard, is it?

Only for not EU people, Twitch VODs don't work proper for many people in EU (i have to buffer 5 mins for every min VOD at medium...but i can watch on medium or even high without problems, no VOD server in EU...)
