Really? Scarlett, Happy, Nerchio, Kas, Mana, Huk, Snute (invited, choose to stay in Korea), Naniwa (declined)... they even dusted off Stephano. I can't think of any other foreigners better than this group.

Yes, agreed in general, guess I´d add Lucifron and Vortix, even though admittedly the Lucifron tournament breakthrough has never happened (at this stage, I´m not even adding the "yet":-( ) , but Vortix looked strong WCS Season3!

I agree, Lucifron and Vortix are very strong. I'd argue the only foreigners that have been clearly a level above them this year are Naniwa and Scarlett. Possibly Stephano (he was a top foreigner before he retired this year). Everyone else is arguable, and in my horribly biased opinion, they're better than most (maybe even all) other foreigners.

Btw, Lucifron's Season 1 WCS was a breakthrough I'd say. It's just we expect even more from him!

On the topic of other strong foreigners that aren't invited, maybe Dimaga, Jim and Macsed should be mentioned? Possibly Moonglade?

Dimaga played 4games yesterday.
You seem to underrate happy a lot, he had overrall more solid results than Luci in wcs iirc.

The abstract group "Koreans" didn't roll; MC, Jjakji, Hero and Taeja did. If Hwangsin, Cella, Phoenix and TailS had played instead, the results may have been different. I'm so sick of how korean players are reduced to their nationality, it's disrespectful to those players who work really hard and whose efforts pay off, as well as unfair to their fellow koreans who do not perform as well...

No its not.

"Korean" is a brand in SC2, aside from the nationality.
Its works for the Koreans very well in terms of respect and foreign-team-money.
There are a few disadvantages, right, but they have to face it.

OTHERWISE it would be unfair.

I never said there weren't marketing possibilities in the brand "korean"; I said it's unfair to use the word as synonymous with "good player". Some Koreans reap the short-term benefits of being branded as better than any player of any other nationality, but in the long-term I really think it's killing e-sports. It's why these discussions of region locking occur in the first place; "Koreans" aren't individuals, but rather a horde of furiously clicking clones, with prowess in Sc2 ingrained in their dna. Allow Koreans to be people instead, because a bad korean player is not any less korean, and an excellent foreign player is not any less excellent.

That's very true! I could not have said it better. The only legit reason to bunch people up in e-sport is skill or performance. So instead of saying "koreans roll over HSC" maybe something like "Favorites roll over HSC" or even "Skill domination in HSC". But I guess it's less catchy... Still, like you said I believe this habit is going to hurt e-sports in the end.

Hey guys. I'm not familiar with the scene. So from liquipedia, I noted that HSC is bashed in TaKe's studio apartment in Germany. Considering that there are so many players of various nationalities, how were the travels like? Did TaKe sponsor the trip for the Koreans etc? Or are the players travelling on their own expense (or rather their sponsors), similar to what they will do with any other competition, in hope of winning the tournament money?

Dennis pays plane tickets and hotels I think for those whose team cannot do that.

At least he paid planetickets and hotels for Naama for HSC VII who after all casted only few games :D

Hey, just saw your post. You're right that I forgot Happy, though he hasn't really had significantly better results than Lucifron in WCS. It's essentially a toss-up (50 more points for Happy). And Lucifron did ever so slightly better in non-WCS (250 points over Happy). So yeah, by results, no significant difference.
