Anyone familiar with /b/ should know of summer fags, right? Now we suffer from another kind of cancer and thats idiots screaming the game is dead, when anyone with a brain can tell that it won't die off until star 3 comes out in 2030.

So... MLG Columbus isn't happening, is what this translates to. Hopefully they change their mind, otherwise, RIP in peace, MLG.

Not good for the NA scene

The next MLG Championship event is being held on 22-24 November.
Blizzcon is being held Novermber 8-9, with the championship that weekend. Why hold a SC2 event after the world championship? It seems a little redundant. This fuckin' guy. Hey, off seasons are cool. More time to plan.

so either people get mad at Blizzard for not being like Valve and Riot and taking a more hands on role in providing the infrastructure for the growth of the game or people get mad because what, Blizzard is interfering in the "invisible hand" of the market economy? cmon man, get it together

Can't really blame MLG for this. Blizzard is years behind DOTA, LOL, and even WOT in terms of support for their game as an esport. The observer features, micro transaction, and monetization (not really sure about WOT) of those scenes is much better. Blizzard doesn't even have to innovate...just copy what is proven successful.

This really sucks, I have only been to MLG twice, and both times it was MLG Colombus, I really am hoping they change this because I was really looking forward to playing in this MLG.

Dota is better off without MLG -_- I agree. I can see them charging $10+ for in game tickets and other stupid nonsense already! They already made like 4 million on the compendium. And Dota 2 always charges for in client viewing(except for TI3, which just had the compendium). What? Compendium and MLG are completely different. Compendium is an optional way to support Valve and the players alike. It also comes with a bunch of cool stuff. MLG tried making PPV events in SC2 with 8 players, has nonstop Doritos commercials, 480p streams, and money grubs at every possible corner. That's why I don't like them at all, because other tournaments just do it better. Yeah, but it doesn't mean they can't charge for in client viewing. MLG is trying to make money and isn't back by "steam sales" to fund all their efforts. Compairing the two is not really fair on any level.
Nobody should feel sympathetic for how a company is making money. If other tournaments are providing good free content, MLG can do it too. I'm not saying they can't charge, because most tournies charge. But most tournies also have free HD stream and better content.

Not seeing the issue here aside it's demoralizing for the NA scene
MLG has always been behind in terms of storylines, production and most annoyingly downtime with the likes of ASUS, Dreamhack, IEM and GOM - Not including OSL here because their downtime is horrendous. The last event they did was pretty good despite the slapping it got after WCS NA but it felt they peaked to their maximum.
Prove me wrong.

Considering the feedback they get from the community before, during and after every event, I'm not surprised they're moving away.

Scott Smith @SirScoots 1 h You all can blame @MLG but I blame the people that should be fired over at WCS for actually making the scene worse.

the fact that he vaguely announces it over twitter in an non committal fashion is a slap in the face. we lined his pockets for three years and i believe we deserve better.

MLG knows that Naniwa was going to win the whole thing anyway. So instead it will be a single invitation and they will hand Dragon Slayer the trophy.

Sundance's promises to "improve in the future" during mishaps of past events now seem almost comedic.

A game like SC2 that has inherent barriers that other games don't (1v1 only/heavy regional skill differences etc) needs constant attention/promotion and small tournaments to keep it relevant and fresh.
Blizzard have done nothing, preferring a hands-off approach as they say. The community can only take a game so far, especially when your home region is pretty much KO'd by WCS.
MLG are doing whats best for business. And given that Blizzard seem to be happy to pit their WCS regional finals against TI3 this weekend, they're probably doing the best thing.

To be fair, When I think about MLG the only thing that really comes to mind were all the insane production failures they've managed to pull off. MLG has never really made it on my list over elite triple A tournaments such as Proleague, GSL, Dreamhack, Homestory cup with many many more which did it allot better. So, at least for me, MLG never really were that great to begin with.

Yeah, I can't help to shake the feeling that despite the good intentions with WCS, it made the 2013 sc2 scene worse overall.

I don't think theres much doubt something happened between Blizzard and MLG because of the WCS stuff. This vague and suggestive - yet non-comitting statement, might be a political move to gain leverage in negotiations.

MLG's player pool was always top notch but they had a lot of downtime between games and low quality stream. The old MLG's where foreigners actually did well vs koreans were great but since then it has become less interesting.
