Hate to say it but SC2 is really just rotting away and I have to blame Blizzard entirely. So, what was there to play in for upcoming NA players before WCS? The NA scene was already dying a long time before Blizzard stepped in and you can't expect them to fix everything for you.

And I'd also have to ask: if SHOUTCraft became a regular thing, would it keep drawing the same attention every time? And if so, wouldn't that still be a lesser amount than the first SHOUTCraft NA did? (obviously because it came at the right time, had good hype going for it, and an interesting approach in presentation as far as interviews went) but you cant use the argument that because every big US host has overspent themselves out of existence as a reason for more events to overspend. the fact is we need the events to sustain themselves before the players. the scene would be more healthy with events featuring part time players than a scene that somehow has 400 full time pros but nowhere to play. the event organizers need to focus on running an event that will actually survive before worrying about how much they pay their winners.

Look at what Valve and Riot did and continue to do with their games. Granted their more casual and easier on the mind and muscle but Blizzard has limitless resources and should have a brain-trust capable of tackling these problems. In ~3 years they've got nothing done in comparison to what Valve has accomplished in 2 years. It sucks to see Blizzard just not give a shit.

MLG, with a history of business-based decisions, doesnt have trouble breaking up with the starcraft 2 scene. They see where the money is and they unabashedly devote resources to it at another game's loss. It is how the world works, and our scene should recognize it now before its too late. For too long we failed to support our own tournaments the way we would support a korean tournament. We have failed to support our players the way we support korean players. And also, our PLAYERS have failed as well. With Stephano gone, who is there that really left to compete? Its just not that exciting anymore. Especially when the scene is fractures into 3 races. If your race doesnt do well in a tourny, you simply dont watch. Maybe sc2 is beyond 'saving' and will forever be treated as a 2nd-rate esport title for compeittive 'purists' only.

With that said, I only watched MLG for Starcraft, so I guess there's no reason to watch it now.
