I guess Nestea is willing to put up with lag now
E-Sports is competitive video gaming with a spectator fan base. Do not take the word "Sports" literally.

When the regional WCS become all offline the Koreans and Korean teams (only Incredible Miracle has so far dedicated players, all other teams are foreign owned) can consider permanently relocating to another region. Once this begins happening the level of play in regions should start improving further.
...
Step Two: Woo Korean teams and infrastructure with money that is not completely centralized in Seoul. Get them accustomed to the prospect that relocating is feasible. If the initial region locks are too severe then regions will become too insulated and will actually hurt long term growth.
...

Your point of view leaves me speechless. Seriously, like what the ..?

How big and wealthy do you think Korean teams are? What kind of unique asset do they posses? Why would you think that teams would have to be transfered anywhere? Or even could or wanted to?
Do you get what a sponsor does? What his interests are?

I am worried, either you (and the people praising your post) or me are living in a parallel universe, because your text made no economic sense to me.

If you, literally, read further you would see that I say:

"Thus moderate region locks are implemented with online qualifiers. Korean players and teams aren't so rich that they can buy a team house in some random city in EU or NA. On top of this there is no set location for offline events like GOM in Seoul. What incentive is there when you get a house in Poland and the tournament location is in France or Germany, or elsewhere? The Korean scene is possible because everything is centralized in one city."

Read more carefully please, I'm not suggesting that Korean teams will just relocate. What I'm suggesting is that the current announcement and the way the region locking is imposed is to warm Korean teams up to the idea of relocating sometime in the future. If Korean teams realize, for example, if the regional WCS and non-WCS tournaments begin to provide income comparable to Seoul then relocating wouldn't be so absurd. And if you actually read the entirety of my post it explains why this is beneficial to the respective regions.

Again, why? Why would you think any team would have to be transfered anywhere?

So, following your example if I wanted to make the German basketball league big I would have to try to 'lure' the LA Lakers to Berlin? Why? What is the use of that?
Teams are numerous in Germany, what the league lacks are sponsors, audience and good players.
How is the Lakers team of any help if they come over but consequently losing all their sponsors, fans and players?
Like I said, I do not get this at all.

Because you did not read my post. Seriously if I have to explain to you the reasons why it's beneficial (I literally wrote it, it's not some between the lines ambiguous interpretation), I hardly think it's worth the effort of even convincing you.

Its not shocking at all. All the players in it for the money, though some die hard fans would like to claim that Koreans are in it for the love of the game. Its a little of both, but the money makes it easier to love the game.

Yeah it's not shocking, but that doesn't make it honorable.

This was never about honor, it was about making a living. Welcome to the real world of competitive anything. If there were no Korean leagues for these players to qualify for, they wouldn't play SC2 at all.

Except the only Koreans to choose NA/EU are the ones with money (foreign teams). They make a living. As you said before progamers aren't in it ONLY for the money, and a current Code S player should choose the competition over some more money.

And I will quit my job of I am offered more money elsewhere. This is their job and they do what is best for them. It was never about being the best in the world. It was always about making a living and more doing what you loved.

Give this guy a medal. I've been reading the forums the past week and this is the first time I've seen someone make this analogy or even bring up the idea that maybe it's ok to have money as a priority when it comes to your job. Just because you're competing against Joes in a tournament to give yourself the best shot at winning more money, doesn't mean you're practicing against them. And if you're practicing against the best, fuck, maybe you realize "this guy is better than me. Maybe the next tournament I play in should be the one without the guy that always owns the fuck out of me." Nah, where's the honor in being sensible.

Lol in FG's, when there's NA/EU qualifiers for major tournaments, Japanese (pretty much the Koreans of FGC) send like 1-3 of them.

But not a whole squad lol. Yea GL NA.

Really seems like you're pulling things out of your ass for the sake of arguing. Before you said its a little of both, now it's just money. Please think about whether that's contradictory.

To claim there are no Korean players who care about being the best is not very discerning. I shouldn't need to explain why.

And to repeat, I'm talking about current Code S players. Including MC, who has made hundreds of thousands and is now fleeing the tough competition.

This system needs to change.
This doesn't make any sense if koreans are all going to participate in NA and EU qualifiers. We can all agree that foreigners are so behind right now to koreans. If we have koreans playing in the NA and EU WCS what is the point in having foreign tournaments? Are foreigners going to have a chance? Does anyone expect many foreigners to actually be able to be competitive in a tournament has has this many koreans?
I say restrict the number of koreans that can participate in foreign tournaments. Make it interesting enough with some koreans in foreign tournaments but also give some hope for foreigners to be able to compete in the tournament.
Discriminate if you have to, please give foreigners hope so that esports outside of korea can develope.

For those of you who are implying it is racist to people who care and find this is a legitimate issue, please for the love of god think about what you're saying! Do you not want to give pro players in your own country a hope of being able to be competitive again?

CatZ has posted a really good and concise view on this whole matter.

And now your EU and NA representatives!!! A bunch of Koreans, living in Korea !

GG blizz GG

This is exactly why this 'region lock' is laughable at best. Blizzard had a huge opportunity here to help build the foundations in each region and this just proves they found a way to drop the ball yet again.

NA division is MLG, EU division is IEM... both with a lot less koreans, since some of them will be locked in other regions. This isn't same as WCS before and is not meant for "aspiring pro players", but rather to organise a global ranking system/league instead.

Well it does kind of make sense, since EG can stay in the EG house in Arizona when going to practice for tournaments (and get rid of jetlag in time) and I reckon that TL players will be allowed to stay for a few days in the EG lair and travel alongside the EG guys when going for those premier tournaments ...

also the thing is they can play online for the first year or so, so that part is kind of not breaking it for me... what I worry about is NesTea living in a 24 sqft apartment with a refrigerator full of cup noodle and ramen noodle :O.

Well I love working in law, but I also want to buy a scooter. A lot of Korean players want to be the best, but they also want to make a living and make money. It can be about both for them too, because they are complex people and can want more than one thing. People can be contradictory with what they want.

This is absurd though, I couldn't care less what team MVP or JD played for, they could be playing for real madrid esports for all I care. But what's the point of having a NA division when umm, half of them are korean? So that they can play live somewhere in the US, where they will most likely draw a mediocre crowd?

The same point as having an English Premier Leauge or a German Bundesliga were half the players aren't English or German, respectively. People like watching the best players play.

Your example is very, very bad.
1) The teams (atleast in germany) are FORCED to sustain youth academies, raising talent
2) A high amount of those players are quickly taken into the main roster of the teams, its cheap, the young players are extremely well trained and it raises support from the region
3) There is not only the PL or first division of the Bundesliga. There are structures far deeper than that, you can earn a good living even if you don't play in the top divisions.
4) Even clubs that are not successfull gain tens of thousands visitors to their stadiums, just because its a regional club.

And why do they have all this? Because they invested into this, not because someone with millions of cash flew over brazilians (or whatever nationality is currently on top during a point in time X) to play. If you want this, take a look at many clubs that get fostered by some billionaires. They get good players from all over the world, but are forced to buy new ones again and again, simply because next to no talent is gonna emerge from such a team.

The "champions league" should be the WCS Season finals, NOT the regional finals.

With EG/TL basiclly sending over their whole proleague squad, does this mean TLO/Ret/Snute/Idra/... is their proleague roster for >=season 2? In the recent FAQ blizz said that more of EU/NA season will be held offline? imo it would be fun to see the idra-coach park clash, but seriously why are they sending this amount of koreans?

I think the list only shows which Koreans to play in foreign regions, not which foreigners to play in Korean region.

Scarlett may return to Canada and play in NA region and the list don't even care.

It will be kind of comical if they show flag names and region representation next to all the competitor's names at the finals.
