In Korea, GSL will be take place for two seasons (one running very soon and the one after summer), while OSL will be held in the summer as the point arbitrator - Koreans and foreigners are not restricted by the regions, and can travel to every tournament to gain points. - MLG and IEM are simultaneously independent of the WCS system, which allows Koreans and foreigners outside of their region to participate - DreamHack, NASL, Iron Squid and other mid-tier tournaments will contribute to the point system, though at a lesser scale compared to the other regionals I don't see how this can work in a fair system. Players who can go to these tournaments get to collect extra points. If someone who does worse in the main WCS events can get ahead of someone who's done better by collecting points at DH that the other player can't go to for some reason, that doesn't sound right. Its going to be less points that the WCS events, so you can't just win those events. If you're only slightly behind or if you have equal points and you can get ahead by going to extra events that someone else can't go to, that still makes no sense. Not if they go to the same event and get the same number of points. If another player does well at Dream Hack, they should be rewarded. Also, life isn't fair. Get a helmet.

[/sarcasm] People pay for VODs now, and you haven't waited to see if they will have rebroadcasts, or cheaper VODs than the typical GSL ticket. It seems that people don't seem to understand there's an additional tournament being created out of basically nothing. All of the normal stuff is there to stay. Yeah. This is new territory for us, but to be honest, I do like this system more than even the LCS LoL thing. We are not losing the other side dishes even if we get this meal of epic proportions.

Since Korea is starting now and plans for all regions should have been made a long time ago by everyone involved, I'd give it two weeks tops before things get rolling. They have about two months to finish Season 1 before the finals happen and with the early stages consisting of such a big player pool it sounds pretty time-consuming.

This sounds like a way for them to screw over a bunch of worthy Korean players so they can put in a bunch of undeserving NA and EU players into the championships. Then they're ruining the two most prestigious tournaments in the Starcraft scene, GSL and OSL, by turning them into qualifiers. I don't understand Blizzard's fascination with ruining their own games. I'm guessing you've always hated WCG then. That's bsically what they've been doing since SC:BW. And the koreans always took 1-3 except that one year where there was chinese uprising Except nobody took WCG seriously and it was a minor event compared to OSL and MSL. WCS is controlled by Blizzard and it looks like all the organizations are being strong-armed into it at risk of another Blizzard lawsuit. They're monopolizing the entire pro Starcraft scene, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if their track record wasn't so terrible. I don't see the problem. OSL and GSL are still crowning champions. It's just that those who end up at the top happen to get some points for WCS. It's not much different than NASCAR. There's still a winner of the Daytona 500 every year, along with a big ceremony afterwards, but placement matters in Sprint cup points. Nobody pays attention to the points until after the race is long over. If anything it'll give people rooting for specific players something to cheer for regardless if they win or not (IE, Innovation just needs to get to the round of 8 to stay #1 in the points standings).

The soccer reference is pretty easy... WCS-KR = UEFA Champions League (Premier league, La Liga teams etc) WCS-EU = AFC Champions League WCS-NA = CONCAFF Champions League

I've considered for a while about making a blog about how Korea is very much like the inner city culture we have in America in terms of basketball and how some Euros can come over and compete but it's really hard for non-city guys (NA players).

They specifically mentioned Code A/Code S system. The tournament format for GSL and OSL has to be the same now. Q: What happens to OSL qualifiers/dual tournament system? Mr Chae: Code A/DualTournament/etc have been combined into the "challenger league." It format is the same as Code A/Up-Downs. The qualifiers into the challenger league will be the same format as old Code B. Q: Can you clarify the challenger league format, and comment in more detail about the prize money? Mr Chae: Code A/Up-down format is the same, just named 'challenger league'. Same in the OSL run season as well.
