Kid, 99.9% here have never seen a Baseball Game and couldn't care less. Use football terms like Champions League, UEFA Cup etc...


KR is NBA
NA is D-League
EU is NCAA


EU is probably more like the Euro-League in Basketball . A couple of decent teams/players that could take games off NBA teams / Koreans here and there but nothing sustainable.

I don't see how this can work in a fair system. Players who can go to these tournaments get to collect extra points. If someone who does worse in the main WCS events can get ahead of someone who's done better by collecting points at DH that the other player can't go to for some reason, that doesn't sound right.


Its going to be less points that the WCS events, so you can't just win those events.


If you're only slightly behind or if you have equal points and you can get ahead by going to extra events that someone else can't go to, that still makes no sense.


Not if they go to the same event and get the same number of points. If another player does well at Dream Hack, they should be rewarded.

People pay for VODs now, and you haven't waited to see if they will have rebroadcasts, or cheaper VODs than the typical GSL ticket.

Yeah. This is new territory for us, but to be honest, I do like this system more than even the LCS LoL thing. We are not losing the other side dishes even if we get this meal of epic proportions.

Except nobody took WCG seriously and it was a minor event compared to OSL and MSL. WCS is controlled by Blizzard and it looks like all the organizations are being strong-armed into it at risk of another Blizzard lawsuit. They're monopolizing the entire pro Starcraft scene, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if their track record wasn't so terrible.


I don't see the problem. OSL and GSL are still crowning champions. It's just that those who end up at the top happen to get some points for WCS. It's not much different than NASCAR. There's still a winner of the Daytona 500 every year, along with a big ceremony afterwards, but placement matters in Sprint cup points. Nobody pays attention to the points until after the race is long over.

If anything it'll give people rooting for specific players something to cheer for regardless if they win or not (IE, Innovation just needs to get to the round of 8 to stay #1 in the points standings).

I hope that players in China/SEA don't lose out on paid trips if they do qualify without living the the actual region. It makes sense for people who have a set region to live in but for others it seems like a simple way to sort of help them if they do qualify with a ping disadvantage.

Overall great work by blizzard, can't wait til we find out more details about everything + what teams do to try and capitalize on it all.

WCS-KR = UEFA Champions League (Premier league, La Liga teams etc)

Nothing changes, everybody starts fresh (except for Rain/DRG/MC/Last/GSL seeds) Prelims-->ODT-->OSL. Top 5 qualifies for WCS2, points given accordingly etc

This is absolutely true. I've considered for a while about making a blog about how Korea is very much like the inner city culture we have in America in terms of basketball and how some Euros can come over and compete but it's really hard for non-city guys (NA players).

You're basing this on what? They specifically mentioned Code A/Code S system. The tournament format for GSL and OSL has to be the same now.

Mr Chae: Code A/DualTournament/etc have been combined into the "challenger league." It format is the same as Code A/Up-Downs. The qualifiers into the challenger league will be the same format as old Code B.

Mr Chae: Code A/Up-down format is the same, just named 'challenger league'. Same in the OSL run season as well.

Top 5 from each region is a funny number, meaning all round of 8 losers will play a 'semi-final' and a 'final' in parallel to the winners.

I wonder if these games will have / attract much interest and coverage...
