MVP upsets favorites LG-IM to take the first and final IPTL of 2013.
The IPTL 2013 Season 1 finals were played tonight on HotS between LG-IM and MVP, with MVP taking it down to the wire in a 5-4 score. The best performing player from LG-IM was MC as he took down his opponents with a mixture of HotS and WoL builds. In his first game against Dream, MC opened with his trademark stargate HotS PvT, transitioning into macro play, in contrast to the all-ins he showed at MLG. However, in the next three series, he showed only WoL builds, specifically the WoL all-ins he was known for. While his 4 gate pressure into blink stalker all-in and his blink stalker observer all-in worked again Shine and the newcomer, Bang, respectively, his immortal all-in was held decisively by NAKSEO. In the end, Super, previously known as Vampire, proved to be the hero for MVP, defeating some of LG-IM's best HotS players in YoDa, RagnaroK, and Squirtle. Super dared to defy conventions against each of the races he was put up against. He held on against YoDa's Terran aggression, proved that the immortal all-in could still work against RagnaroK, and held off a four-gate with a one-gate fast expansion against Squirtle. For his victories, MVP took home a $9,000 check while LG-IM settles with $4,000.
Season 1? Does this mean IPL plans on having another IPTL season? Or did they just stick with that name since the season started before they canceled IPL6?

they just stuck with the name. No more IPTL (I guess theres a possibility they run one under a different name? idk someone said that)
I find it hilarious that ROOT beats FXO and is a 'Premier' team and yet according to Liquipedia they got $250 whereas FXO got $1000. What kind of tournament bases rewards on where teams start instead of where teams finish?

Opinion of right or wrong aside. But since you asked for tournaments that does that...
The GSL does this. Someone in Code S, drops out of Ro32 and out of Code A will make more than someone who makes it to Code S from Code A. It's not the exact situation, but similar. There aren't really many multi-tiered leagues out there.

I didn't even know that this happened. I have no time for anything that isn't a major tournament, GSTL or Proleague these days. I'm kind of glad to see the upset though. On paper LG-IM should just steamroll everyone.

MVP is not really known for performing well in teamleagues. I understand you with seed and yonghwa thou.
IM can't play everybody jeez. They only can have 5 players and they played 5 amazingly good ones in MC, Squirtle, First, Yoda and Rangnarok. IM actually cannot make a mistake fielding players lol.
Super just won MVP the match thats about it, it has nothing to do with who played.
I wonder if it is just coincidence that it is called season 1 for no reason, since there will be no more seasons, or they know something that may allow for more?

They decided on 'Season 1' months and months ago when the season was first starting out, not yet aware that there would be no more.

it's a bit hard with timezone differences and all, though. you'd be getting the koreans up at a rather early hour in order to broadcast for the american timezone
really wish this wasn't titled the way it was, I didn't visit the TOURNIE section so I didn't get any spoilers of last nights games.. low and behold ...

Yep that's exactly right. The Up and Downs don't give you money yo, they give you qualification. You're awarded money by the place you rank at the end of your division's season. The rank at, say, Code A #1 is still lower than Code S ro32. Code S is still > Code A, even though the Code A player beat the Code S player.
ROOT will earn more prize money than FXO in the next season (or should have if IPTL would to have continued). So what you find hilarious actually isn't funny at all yo, it makes perfect sense! ^_^

ROOT was in the Premier Division at the end of the season. It makes no sense to award money based off of where teams started. The teams that started in Premier got there because of IPL placing them there. They didn't earn anything. This isn't like GSL Up&Downs where it's the last chance to go from lower tier to higher, it is the only chance to do so.

i interpret as ROOT qualifies for the premier division of the next season, not as they end up there
If you have practice partners such as Keen Noblesse, DRG and Monster(NakSEOEOEOEO) you are bound to hit success imo <3 Noblesse hwaiting !!... I hope he becomes gosu in 2013 and Samgsun Khan purchases him after the trade lock between eSF and KesPA is lifted this summer <3 <3 <3 ( We need a firebathero on Khan again!! ... also i know that FBH was WAY more charismatic than the average, or even MC korean is, but still.. Noblesse does some cheeky stuff ! <3 )
Hi,I'm the coach of Invictus Gaming,I'm from China. We had already qualified in 2013 IPTL Season 1 Amateur Division. but i don't know when to start the Up&Down. i had sent the e-mail to the admin of IPTL,but no one answer me... anyone here can tell me why?
(PS:i know IPL is dead...but after that ,we still played the Amateur Division)

ROOT made it to the Premier for NEXT season(the season that didn't happen). For IPTL Season 1 they FINISHED 9-12(top 2 in their side of Contender division). They actually started the season in Code B(Amateur division). Had their been a Season 2 they would finish at least in the top 10(because they were gonna change the format) and would have gotten that bigger prize pool.

I was really looking forward to seeing you guys in Contender division. Unfortunately, IPL being dead just means that there will be no more IPTL at all. The office is already empty. I keep hearing about a new deal they made so I'm hoping they will continue the competition under a new name eventually. Good luck! iG
Honestly that's kind of dumb, the whole tourney was WoL and IM kept people practicing WoL just for IPL events, then they switch it to HotS for just the finals.

it would have been dumber to have a WoL finals to be honest, this far after release
