Correction: Daily ESPORTS mistakenly reported earlier that Jaedong would return to Team Eight immediately should they find a sponsor. This was a misunderstanding; Jaedong's 1 year period with EG is binding.

I know hes a big hero from SC1 but if he can't really produce any results what good is he? PR value?
It's a big step to go from "he is currently Code A" to "he can't really produce any results, what good is he?". Back in BW people used to consider ZvZ a coinflip. After Jaedong's domination of ZvZ and absurd win-rate, they called his mirror matches JvZ (Jaedong vs Zerg). He was that damn good. Players like him and Flash, with dedication to SC2, will be top players easily. I can't wait to see more Jaedong, and especially as he dedicates to SC2... and streams for us!!

No offense, but if you've never watched BW you don't know what you're talking about. Jaedong's play is near and dear to many of us and the way he approaches starcraft is truly special. His moment may not happen today or tomorrow or next month, but he's a living legend and deserves to be watched more closely than almost any other player.
OK I'm backing away slowly here, sorry for the fans I've upset
Well I hope he does show results for EG and not end up an ageing superstar trying SC2 for one more shot at a career, like JulyZerg and Nada.
If he has a career in SC2 as solid as Boxers then its a win. If he has a career likce Nada then it will be sad. But as you can see, BW fans will get rabid which gives EG more dirty money. Which makes it a win for them. And their dirty money.
you've got that backwards - Boxer did nothing in sc2, NaDa at least hung around in Code S for like a year.

Will most likely not be any bigger than what we have seen players like IdrA and Stephano bring in. May spike the first few times but then he will just be another streamer in the sea of many.
I remember when BoxeR streamed a bit, dude got like 1000 viewers with mic and webcam. NaDa didn't have many, Mvp had like ~2000 something. ForGG and Sea spiked in the beginning but are around 1-2k now on good days I think. Sick players like Leenock doesn't seem to ever break 1k whenever I see him online and put my cursor over his stream name.
I know it's mother fucking Jaedong but people wants to watch foreigners and drama pretty much...
Nah I'm pretty sure everyone is going to stop whatever they're doing and watch. It'll level out for a bit afterwards, but the initial viewership will be tremendous.
I think the first time he streams, it will go above 20k. It will be one of the greatest players ever streaming. People will not turn that down. Then it will level out and be around 2k

the way that Boxer was a top SC2 player 'easily'?
I'd say Boxer did pretty well early on in SC2 considering he wasnt even good enough to get playing time in BW anymore

ya, JD will have huge novelty appeal once he starts streaming which probably will level out after a while.

Actually, Boxer has had by far more impact on the SC2 scene than NaDa had had even in Code S.
NaDa's career is "sad" because he didn't really do anything except hang around, like July. Boxer hung around (albeit yes, at a lower level) but also created and coached one of the most successful SC2 teams in Korea (RIP).
This makes me happy, but at the same time I am wondering something.
I did not follow brood war, but understand it.
Is it not kind of scary that the top korean SC1 pros have to find foreigner teams? Is it sustainable?
A better question is if they HAVE to join foreigner teams or is it just that EG and teams like TL are offering so much more.
If that is the case, why can EG afford so much and what are korean teams doing wrong?
SlayerS seemed like a very very popular team for fans and sponsors, what caused it to rot to death? was it bad management or just lowering interest in korean fans?

The SlayerS incident, made me take a 2 week off from TL.Net, jesus that was horrible, wasn't there three threads at the same time going in SC2 general at one point?
There's a Jaedong interview up on ThisIsGame which some Korean speaking translator will probably translate soon haha. Just wanna say that Jaedong's answers are really, really, really, really long lol.

Korean teams are infamous for not managing the business side nearly as well as their western counterparts. Teams like EG understand the business side more. Also different structure than Kespa I'd think.
