HotS will have global play, so you can pick which server to play on regardless of the version you buy.

It's not like you can only buy the multi-player version of the game, that's more for the campaign than anything. 40$ In the scheme of things is shit all for how much entertainment the game will provide, that's about the same cost as 2 visits to the movies for me (3-4 hours of time consumption plus snacks). If it is too much for you, then you should get a job.
It's not a matter of "I can't afford it", it's a matter of "Blizzard said..." and yes, 40$ is a shitton of money for the "new" content we are getting. Think about it. Singleplayer? Not worth mentioning, you'll spend max 10 hours playing that. And new multiplayer content is a joke. The only things new are the units. All the other updates should already have been implemented in WoL (clan support, global play, improved UI, ...), so they cannot be considered "new". Holding back standard content to have more content for the expansion is a cheap selling strategy but is what I feel like this is. Feels like a DLC tbh. And you know why? Because SC2 is following a disused payment model. I can't even stress how backwards fullpriced games are. The current trend goes to continuous gains through item shops.
So, concluding why 40$ are way too much:
- Blizzard said themselves it wouldn't be a fullpriced game. Saying 40$ is not full-price is outrageous.
- There is no proportion between the new content (see above) offered through the expansion and the money they want for it.
Oh and btw thanks for the comparison with cinema: like hell I am paying 15$ for a movie (assuming you spend 5$ on snacks per movie). At least games are reacting to changing times, cause cinema sure is not.
Anyway, price may change til March. I am not going to buy the expansion if it stays at that price.

Full price is 60 bucks. If you think that full price is somehow 40 bucks, that's your problem. As far as AAA releases go 40 bucks is definitely not full price.

But I have a feeling that the team needs a bit more time to balance the game. Not sure that's Kerrigan, couldn't that be the cybernetic repository of her zerg memories that travels around with her on her ship? Nah. It's definitely Kerrigan. That zerg memory lady thing has no nose. This has a nose. Case = closed.

WoL costed 60$ so yes, 40$ could be considered non fullpriced. I don't really know what you are talking about that new contents don't worth 40$. TFT,BW and all of Blizzard's RTSs work like this. you also don't need to buy HotS to get new BNET feautures too.

I hate you blizzard. That is not just Blizzard tough. EVERYONE (except a couple like GoG) do that, and not just game related.

don't mind paying for multi + single, but it would be great to have alternate purchase options for ppl who only want multi ^_^;

40$ is a lot , if you get paid 1.000$ a month is not , but when you live in east europe where salaries are 200-300$ , fk 40$ is a lot -.- and i was hoping they would make multiplayer free to play . is the only thing that holds sc2 from being the most played game around the world

I doubt they will ever do it.

Seems like a good date, I would imagine we will start hearing a lot more about HOTS after BWC this weekend.

I'm gonna be honest, that date looks like December 3rd. Most of the time that is how dates are written in that format. For example today is 11/13/12. But I guess it could be March 12th.

Yeah that's just business as usual, absolutely dumb to blame blizzard for something they literally have no control over.

I suspect most people wouldn't care though, since ladder players are a minority. Most people, like my friends and I would be buying it just for the campaign anyways.

Exciting stuff! Let's hope that they are not too optimistic in their estimate!

40 fucking dollars and Terran gets ONE fucking unit.
SC2 HotS confirmed the blunder of the century.
6 months ago they announced that HotS will have Multiplayer resume from replay Global Play Multilanguage support Clan/group system Unranked matchmaking Multiplayer replay viewing Clan is the only one they have managed to complete from that list during the past 6 months right? Do you guys believe the rest of those 6 are so much easier to add to the game that they manage to do all of them in the next 4 months? No they cant. + Show Spoiler [proof that they cant] +
They will charge 40USD or € or 100AUD for a patch that will be released as unfinished as WoL and D3 were.
