Remember you can pre-order your copy through the TL store and help support Team Liquid! It's also an easy way to get a beta key! |

You're talking to a consumer base that will drop that much for a League of Legends skin and do it over and over again.
They're not exactly asking people to pay for something they aren't willing to pay extra for trust me.

$40 is always how Blizzard prices its expansion. Every Blizzard expansion costs $40.
Also, amazing box art.

the price is a fing joke.. especially for the deluxe edition EU will get it for 45€ at best... typical Blizzard cash cowing

You're paying as much for a Blizzard expansion in 2012 as you would have in 2003 and that's with inflation included.
It's a good buy. There's absolutely zero reason to start the "cash cowing" hate train other than just blind trolling.

You DO need WoL to play HotS even with the separate ladders.

exactly!! stop drinking beer or cigarette!! if you start saving 10dollars a month you will be fine, its really depressing how many ppl cry about a game being $40 dollars, when we are talking about the game you will probably be playing more that anything else... WTF?

price is a joke, i think i'm not going to buy sc2 this time....

The price tag is worrisome. For people on TL it's nothing, but I know a lot of guys that stopped playing WoL and would give HotS another chance. They will look at the price and look at the number of new units and will dismiss it immediately.
People don't even play or hype the free HotS beta. Blizzard has a lot of work to do make multiplayer more enjoyable.
TFT was a massive overhaul for WC3 where $40 was rectified (gameplay mechanics were drastically changed). It's okay they aim to do more like a BW-like add-on, but that was the time where add-ons cost <= $30. Blizzard increased the add-on costs by a lot since then because they provide much more content with them. This doesn't seem to be the case with HotS. Of course, they put much more (technical) work into HotS than in BW, but the output is comparable. I don't count perks like Global Play etc. as a plus for HotS because frankly, they should have implemented those much earlier.
Now the jump from $30 to $40 doesn't seem to be that much, but with the F2P competition we lose a lot of fuel. People that think $40 for the campaign is worth it will pay it, play the campaign and stop playing (-> nothing goes into the scene). People that still play SC2 multiplayer will pay $40 and play. So, where will the new players come from? Players that think that the campaign is worth $40, play the campaign and start playing multiplayer after that (-> these won't be that much to get SC2 back growing and they will probably lose interests after a short while). Few people that stopped playing the multiplayer but don't think the campaign is worth $40 will pay $40 and start playing the multiplayer again because of very few new units.

If it turns out that WoL is more balanced than HotS, then i won't be buying it.

It's not March 12th but December 3rd... (EU date format: DD-MM-YYYY; NA date format: MM-DD-YYYY)

Trust me man, Blizzard games are like a habit you can't quit. For every 3 guys you talk to that say they'll never come back after they quit, 2 will when the expansion comes out and 1 will definitely stay for said expansion with the other being a big maybe.
That's been the rate I've encountered consistently in World of Warcraft with players insisting just as enthusiastically that they hate the game as some SC2 players have.

Well either way that means you won't be buying it for the first year at the bare minimum.
unless of course you're counting on the game being as balanced when it first comes out as WoL is now after two years of balancing in which case your expectations are unrealistically high.

so its 40 dollars... but what does "digitale deluxe" mean? Some extra content or something?

i don't think price is high for complete game, but i don't play campaign, so 40€ is a lot for 5 new units, i wont only multilayer options, i will give max 20€ for multilayer only,

How is this "priced as an expansion". It's basically the same price as the original.
|
It's about time, and $40 is cheap.

$40 < $60.
WoW expansions are $40. The Frozen Throne was $40 iirc.
