Original was 60 bucks American. When it was brand new.
40 =\= 60
SC2's pricing model is following the EXACT same pricing model Blizzard used in Warcraft 3 and is still using for World of Warcraft. Original title 60 bucks, expansion 40 dollars, battle chest same price as original title.
Nothing about HOTS's price should be surprising. Nothing.

Not sure on other regions, but sc2 WoL was $89.99 here in Australia for the longest time, they only just recently lowered it in stores to $69.99. Hots is $45 AUD.. so hardly the same price. Here atleast.

Cool. Just pre ordered it.
But now I can't buy anything in Steam this Christmas, although I don't care.
And March 12th seems to be so far away, although I know the time will pass fast.

Exept that HotS adds one third of the content to the game that Frozen Throne added, and one tenth compared to WoW expansions.

I think it's time to give the Beta another try tonight. xD

Guess I'll just watch the cinematics to follow the "plot". There's no sign multiplayer will be any less lame than it is right now, and I'd rather spend 40 bucks on burgers than frustration.

You think that overhauling the entire UI and improving the physics and graphics engine doesn't count as added content? Also comparing it to a WoW expansion is dumb in the first place because WoW has a monthly payment system. When you look at what someone has paid to play WoW from release till now with buying every single expansion and not missing a single monthly payment i'd say you could buy a pretty decent car with that money.

$39 for expansion? Seems too much!

WoW's content is also priced with its subscription cost (15 dollars per month) included in case you've forgotten. The box prices are exactly the same though.
As per Warcraft 3's content, that's yet to be seen. Warcraft 3 TFT added neutral heroes and 3 new campaigns as well as a couple new units per race. A lot of the content that exists now was patched after the expansion first dropped.
HOTS is adding new units per race, UI and Battle.net changes (that are also going to be given free of charge to WoL) and a new campaign that will offer as many playtime hours as TFT's campaign if it's anything like WoL's. which we have no reason to believe it won't be.
When Legacy of the Void is released. SC2 will have considerably more campaign playtime hours included than the Warcraft 3 campaigns did.
There's also Blizzard All-Stars to consider.

But you get to play for free, whereas you have to pay like $15 per month for WoW.

Yesterday I reached 3000 games played. So I thought for a moment that every game I played cost me $0.02. Considering that the laptop I play on is from my work and I pay electricity by a flat rate (not by consumption), this is really the right estimate of cost. SC2gears tell me that my average game is 12 real minutes (yes, I play a lot of 4v4 and we proxy almost every single game ). So this is like $0.1 per hour of entertianment. I call that a good deal!
It is a little annoying that HoTS will be so little for so much, but whatever. This shit is too cost-efficient anyway, I don't care. I am not sad because of the money but because I was expecting more novelty.

Well, the price seems pretty much like what i expected. Will most probably get it. Can't wait for the single player. I probably played it 3 or 4 times in WoL, which is more than my ladder play time. Let's see if i'll ladder more in HotS. Hopefully the custom games search will be better, but i don't have much hope there.
|
I really dont see whats wrong with the price. Its the same price the BW was when it came out and that was over 10 years ago, and with inflation, that basically makes this game only about $30.
And ill admit that i love the single player. Why? Cuz i get to use units and abilities that arent available on the ladder. Plus i get to customize the upgrades and whatnot, and since i play zerg, im REALLY looking forward to all the cool stuff thats gonna be added to each unit

Source?
As far as I know there's been no officially released statement on how Blizzard All-Stars will be implemented other than it won't be released until HoTS has been.
