Losing one player for one season obviously does not "really hurt" GSL's credibility. Code S is stacked with 31 other great SC2 players. Wait. What? This company is charging $25 for a season's content and people paid to watch the best in the world compete. Then, one of their best players walks out for another tournament a few days before his match. This does not hurt GSL's credibility as they claim to be "the best E-Sports show in the world?" Since when is a paying customer's comment about a de-valuing of the product they've paid for "not doing anyone any good?" The NBA's worst team is one of the best teams in the world, but if OKC walks out for a month mid season to play in another league a viewer is absolutely within reason to criticize the league for this.

He's an 18 year old kid who wants to experience the thrill of being cheered on by foreign fans, cut him some slack. Not sure why you feel the need to attack me but whatever. I just don't see how he couldn't manage to plan this ahead of time and play in both tourneys. Feels like he's going more for the money than anything which, to me, is pretty sad. Saying he just wants more exposure is kinda dumb. Winning the GSL is so much more prestigious than winning MLG. Overall it feels like a huge let down for the fans. As much as I like him I hope he gets knocked out quick so he has some time to think about it.

I am not talking about Rain's credibility here, and it might very well hurt his but I am not going to discuss that. But, people are not paying Rain to watch him play. People are paying Gom to watch Rain play. You pointed out the exact problem that grounds my criticism. There is nothing they have to physically (contract etc.) stop a player from walking out of the GSL thus, if they want to pitch themselves as the most prestigious event it's their job to make sure players stay in their tournament via other means and not jump ship, whether this is negotiating with KeSPA or Rain himself or MLG or whoever (I'm only listing some means to this end, but it's not a customer's job to figure this out for them). But if you stake your claim as the most important tournament you better be ready to back it up and having Rain walk out is not consistent with that claim.

I get that people are disappointed that they won't be able to watch him in GSL, especially if they bought a season ticket, but seriously, the amount of hate is totally out of hand. If you just wanted to watch Rain, you'll still get to see him play at MLG. People hoping he bombs out in the open bracket are obviously just Kespa haters, Rain fans would want him to get through to group play so they can see some games with him.

It doesn't really make sense why KeSPA would pull him either, unless they think their players can't win or something so they are sending someone who can? I dunno about all this.

It hurts GSL's credibility but not to a large extent. It would hurt them more if Rain was saved a spot for Code S next season despite willingly forfeiting his matches. No tournament organizer at this point in time has the power to force any participating player to do anything; the scene is very small and the amount of money being thrown around is (relatively) small. Except for KeSPA players and some eSF players there are no guaranteed contracts, and don't pretend for a second that KeSPA would promise player exclusivity to GOM. It's rather silly to compare GSL to the NBA; a better comparison would be comparing GSL to the 1950's era of professional basketball.

Oh what a shock a young guy wants to come around and visit other countries, he just took a chance which opened up for him, a bit overly nerdy to rage about this in my opinion..
