No, if you lose in code S you get directly in code A the same season and have to knock your way back in. You need to win at least 1 match to get in the up and down and 3 (not 100% sure) to get directly into code S.

Everyone's making a big deal about it, continuing to throw "kespa" around like republicans throw around 'communism'.
Does anyone really blame SKT1 for putting him in a tournament where he can explode, like foreign scene attention has done for Squirtle, Taeja, and others? It's not an issue of GSL not being the premier league, or KESPA using dirty tactics, but that quite frankly they're capitalizing on a player that's started to get attention from the giant foreign money-pit.
And zomg KESPA and Gom still aren't being nice to eachother. Let me hold my shock.

This is not like Federer forfeiting Wimbledon to play some invitational in China. This kid is like 18 years old, probably has never been out of Korea, Fantasy and Bisu went to blizzcon im sure they shared their experiences with their teammates. Why wouldn't a kid like that take the opportunity to travel to America, If it was the other way around and I was stuck In Canada my whole life, I dont see why I wouldn't take a trip like this to Korea or somewhere in Europe. The GSL and OSL will be around in the future, and yes so will trips to MLG, but Rain probably looked at that and choose that at this time he would rather go and experience a trip to America.
Except that Rain could go to Vegas with GSL....

Well, Sun's decision to chose to popularise himself to the foreigners more makes sense. Korean scene is not as big, and since Gom couldn't accomodate his schedule like they did for other players... not a hard call there.

He may even be looking for a way out of KeSPA through a foreign team judging how other KeSPA stars have spoken out about their wish to go abroad, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him aiming for that

MLG and IGN are kind of competing against each other

Since Gom couldn't change their schedule when he informed them only two days in advance and other players had already planned accordingly?
Well after getting over the original shock I agree for publicity making the trek to MLG might work. He basically has to win though.

People keep saying GSL is most prestigious tournament...to whom?? maybe if ur a white guy and didnt know about the scene in korea until SCII came out. Rain grew up watching his BW heroes play on national tv and dreamed of winning an OSL for 10 years like almost every other korean kid. GSL dosent mean nearly as much to him but I get that its hard to comprehend that if you haven't been around for those days. Maybe for the next generation of players it will be the GSL but all the guys currently playing, grew up dreaming of winning an OSL. Again im not arguing from the point of view of most people here who have only been around for the last 2 years or so. Just in Rains eyes, he won the OSL and among his peers and fans in Korea thats as good as it can get. So why not take a mini vacation to a foreign country, hes like pulling a reverse Bisu.

Turns out I now have a reason to watch MLG.

kind of smart by MLG, now all eyes are gonna be on MLG and Rain.

But if he honestly forfeited his Code S seed for a CHANCE at winning $25,000 and having to go ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE OPEN BRACKET, then he might be the best player in the world, but not the best decision maker. Hopefully GSL does what they did with (other)Rain and suspend him for a season. Rain was one of the GSL's main stars after S4 and could have been a reason why a lot of people bought a ticket.
I guess making a big name for himself in America is a good move, and he does have WCS Global Finals also this month that he might have put more priority on than Code S, but it seems like a foolish move. If he was in group play, I can maybe see it, but what happens if he rolls MC in the OB, loses a PvP and then has to win 30 matches in a row to even make Championship Sunday?
Edit: I just realized this is the second time in history a player has given up their Code S seed willingly. BOTH WERE NAMED RAIN.
I agree, this was a horrible decision. Rain was one of my main reasons for purchasing this season's GSL ticket...

I'm glad Mvp beat Rain last season in the semifinals. Imagine how damaging this would be to GOM if Rain were the defending GSL champion. I just lost respect for Rain, SKTelecom, and KESPA.

watch Rain somehow get cheesed out of the open bracket
tears will be shed
|
This makes me a sad panda :/
|
What.
Now watch h doesn't make it out of the open bracket and he doesn't make it out of Code A.
|
Rain should play Hyun in a fight club now.
|
Ah this sucks. I can understand how he wants to play in America, but I feel like he has what it takes to to win the GSL.
