The prime esport in korea shouldn't go from the most skilled game of all time to the shittiest casual magnet of all time, atleast sc2 is still one of the hardest games of all time. As much as I'd rather not see kespa get involved in the sc2 scene and what not, sc2 needs a pro league and a OSL, and even more important korean sc2 needs flash, jaedong, bisu etc. pp. That's such a strange set of priorities. The fact that OGN is already hosting a large LoL tournament must make you so mad.

BW needs to be reinvigorated from the community stand point so viewership increases and KeSPA can responsibly allocate resources without risking peoples jobs and stuff. They have no fanboy loyalty. Seriously. What? There was a CJ fan here at TL a long time ago. Who would argue day in and day out that CJ is the most deserving among the PL teams. He was the epitome of BW Fanboyism. Koreans have these kinds of fanboyism and fangirlism and much more rabid, much more cunning, much more .. .. .... Passionate. So, I don't know where you got the idea that KeSPA games didn't have Fanboy/girl Loyalty.

And if you get 70+% winrate at the highest rank, you might get a Flash portrait. In all seriousness, after seeing Moletrap and Torch cast LoL for OGN's English stream, I wouldn't be surprised if OGN decides to invest in English casters and an English stream for whatever SC2 venture they end up doing. SC2 outside of Korea is pretty big compared to it inside Korea, and an English SC2 stream would be much more viable than an English BW stream due to the difference in foreign fan numbers.

So, I don't know where you got the idea that KeSPA games didn't have Fanboy/girl Loyalty. Its not about favoring fanboyism per se, its about the fact that almost everyone is already accustomed to BW Korea. SC2 is way different than BW, i would not be suprised if Asian viewer count would drop severely even if ALL progamers switched. BW Jin Air OSL Finals got something about 9million viewers(not confirmed) from China, where BW is still going strong playerbase wise. So in case of business, going into sc2 would be going for foreign western scene same as GOM move, but on a slightly bigger scale. There is no way that SC2 will bring more Asian viewers. It will be less daily product more niche-specific product so expect Blizzard/Razer/Hardware global manufacturers instead of ABC marts and Telecoms. Niche luxury product rather than almost "daily life" event.

What should they have done better? Making workers NOT automine? That would require more apm, but the less apm you need, the more important your strategies become... Anyway, I like watching Broodwar matches, and if it becomes f2p I'd give it a shot. And, I'm happy to see new tournaments arising for SC2 in Korea.

BW fans say, 'it takes not skill', but I've never read about any specific reason. To me it seems Blizzard has made a good job. It has a better interface, like automining and selecting as many units as you like, they copied the trademark units like marines, tanks, zealots etc. and replaced some with clever ideas that add excitement to the gameplay, e.g. banelings. Go on ICCUP or any other private server. We've been saying the same shit over and over in this thread. I'm not going to write another list. ffs people are lazy asses.

So it becomming free could be a huge boost to their numbers in the foreign scene.
