I think this is only good news as BW is clearly in decline (being overtaken by LoL) and SC2 is the new game. You should support this decision as a Starcraft fan. BW people may argue that SC2 is not as in depth as BW (which it probably isn't), but i'd take SC2 any day over watching a team of 5 idiots a-moving a single hero unit down 3 alleyways. SC2 isn't "overtaking" anything in Korea. It looks more like a desperation from Blizzard side now with LoL growing in Korea and their premier eSports title not succeeding in the Mecca of eSports. In any case, I won't support this at all if it means that ProLeage and BW will fade in Korea. I just got into PL last year and I've so far found it more interesting than any SC2 related league/event I've seen so far. SC2 will take over Korea, with Kespa's backing. LOL isn't going anywhere in the long run, it's boring as hell to watch and Koreans have been watching bw for 10+ years, LOL doesn't have the same intelligent gameplay as bw/sc2. I can't wait for this, the true beginning of the sc2 era will begin What makes you say former BW fans will watch SC2? Because so far, most of them have no interest in SC2 and just because KeSPA supports it does not mean it will get popular Imagine Basketball 2 came out but none of the good NBA players switched. Not many NBA fans would switch. However, if the NBA switched to BBall 2 than a large portion of the fans would switch over. There's a familiarity with the player base, and a level of competition problem that was huge if you watched early SC2. We have developed a familiarity with the player base and the level of play has come a long way, but for the broodwar fans in Korea those things were probably huge turn offs. Anything that injects so much money, talent, and exposure into the SC2 scene is probably going to be a good thing. Remember that GOM has the exclusive contract for another year so they must be getting something out of this deal, why else would they agree to give up the exclusivity?
I'm sorry, but you're assuming people value BBall and BBall 2 on the same level. A more accurate comparison would be if all of pro baseball players switched to softball; which well it might stimulate fandom for the sport, would have nowhere near the strength that basbeall had.

Expected this fucking shit happen when we saw him there in the crowd....
Are they replacing BW with SC2 or will both run in parallel leagues?
If they replace BW, what the hell are they thinking? Go run your own SC2 league...
Can't SC2 live without leaving BW alone? Or is that SC2 is failing that they feel the need to convert the BW viewers into SC2 viewers?
edit: removed unnecessary swearing

It won't work anyway. They already tried that with Boxer vs Nada match, every BW fanboy on the planet tuned in for that. Then they left, because they didn't like SC2 as a game.
This idea that SC2 just needs more exposure in Korea to become popular is delusional; every Korean BW fan has watched SC2. If they don't like it now, they aren't going to like it when SC2 Proleague starts.

B-but baseball is just full of artificial difficulty, when you play softball you have to play more STRATEGICALLY!

Excellent. SC2 is the far superior game and I'm sure the korean audience will love what OGN will do with it.

Maybe BW fans aren't really the target. Maybe new players, younger people, "fresh blood" are what they are going for. Having some BW fans would be nice but why not bring in a new crowd. Just like SC2 brought in a whole new crowd of gamers that never played RTS or even knew what esports was. More exposure to the korean population will do this.

Then why didn't it work with Boxer, Nada, July, etc?

This is amazing news but also very scary if its not handled carefully and properly.
i wont be surprised if there is at least two big ugly dramatical shitorms to come with this new proleague.
but if it means i get to watch bisu and best play sc2, i'm all for it.
just please be careful with esports blizzard, i hope you're better at negotiating with kespa than you are at making maps

The BW fandom is far too entrenched to reach, it's a lost cause I'm sure anyone with half a brain including Kespa and OGN and Mike and everyone knows this, so appealing to them likely isn't the goal. No one is forcing anything here. Kespa doesn't want to put all their eggs in one basket and that's why OGN has their hand in LoL as well which rising is popularity there (gag).

To be fair, the Boxer vs Nada was so long ago ( GSL Open season 2) and the game has evolved so much from that time. The game right now might become interesting enough for them right now in the top level.

What disgusting news. End BW to change it with a game that's worse and less popular than LoL? Way to go, Blizzard

to everyone saying this is a response to LoL's growing popularity ... ffs.
we've known this was going to happen since autumn 2011, there have been numerous blog posts / tweets / etc on the topic by a number of industry/media figures.
i would even go so far as to say that this isn't really news (though the specifics are definitely good to know).
sadly i don't see BW surviving beyond maybe the end of 2013 ... i dunno, maybe its time is just past.
