at the very least this would help OGN to increase their foreign viewership; even if OGN cast the games in korean at 360p, having S-class BW players in an SC2 league would get waaaaaaaaay more viewers than BW. and a Korean TV Station should care why about foreigner audience? Because they can run a stream in HD, charge money, and make money. Just like GOM does. GOM does it cause they dont have the korean audience :D they need foreigner 2 pay them. Foreigner audience is way bigger for SC2 than it's ever been for SC:BW. It's WAY to big of a market to ignore. With foreign viewers comes foreign sponsors. If you can increase viewership at very little cost, why wouldn't you? Do you have any numbers to support your claims? A quick google found that 50+ million foreigners watch GOMTV, but I can't find Korean numbers. Regardless, as a media company, are you really going to ignore 50+ million potential viewers?
Streams that can barely get 100k viewers and 50 million potential viewers... does not compute

What a load of bullshit. GOM does not have 50 million viewers, they have had 50 million VIEWS overall.

I think this is only good news as BW is clearly in decline (being overtaken by LoL) and SC2 is the new game. You should support this decision as a Starcraft fan. BW people may argue that SC2 is not as in depth as BW (which it probably isn't), but i'd take SC2 any day over watching a team of 5 idiots a-moving a single hero unit down 3 alleyways. SC2 isn't "overtaking" anything in Korea. It looks more like a desperation from Blizzard side now with LoL growing in Korea and their premier eSports title not succeeding in the Mecca of eSports. In any case, I won't support this at all if it means that ProLeage and BW will fade in Korea. I just got into PL last year and I've so far found it more interesting than any SC2 related league/event I've seen so far. SC2 will take over Korea, with Kespa's backing. LOL isn't going anywhere in the long run, it's boring as hell to watch and Koreans have been watching bw for 10+ years, LOL doesn't have the same intelligent gameplay as bw/sc2. I can't wait for this, the true beginning of the sc2 era will begin What makes you say former BW fans will watch SC2? Because so far, most of them have no interest in SC2 and just because KeSPA supports it does not mean it will get popular Imagine Basketball 2 came out but none of the good NBA players switched. Not many NBA fans would switch. However, if the NBA switched to BBall 2 than a large portion of the fans would switch over. There's a familiarity with the player base, and a level of competition problem that was huge if you watched early SC2. We have developed a familiarity with the player base and the level of play has come a long way, but for the broodwar fans in Korea those things were probably huge turn offs. Anything that injects so much money, talent, and exposure into the SC2 scene is probably going to be a good thing. Remember that GOM has the exclusive contract for another year so they must be getting something out of this deal, why else would they agree to give up the exclusivity? If that is the case, I assume that if all SC2 players switched to LoL, you would happily start to watch LoL instead of SC2? The inject of talent would be great for the LoL scene wouldn’t it? Also, are you aware of the fact that BW players are constantly replaced by new younger stars? BW is not dominated by Boxer, Nada and OOV anymore, but somehow people still find the game interesting. The reason for that might have something to do with the fact that people actually like the game. No player is bigger than the game itself.

I wonder what casters they will get. Because Tastosis is already signed to GoM.

Right... because SC2:LoL is the same as BW:SC2. The differences in SC2:BW are almost non-existent compared to a completely different game like LoL. To be honest, if SC2 died and everyone moved to another game I would probably end up checking out the other game. I mean, the rise of LoL in Korea shows that people are willing to embrace a new game that people on TL diss constantly as requiring no talent or skill.
I know that players rise and fall all the time. It's just like sports that way. There's a huge difference between all the current superstars switching and players past their prime switching (like BoxeR, July, and NaDa). I think that if the current superstars switched it would cause a huge boost in SC2 popularity... Sure, some people won't like it, but I really don't think that the mass audience in Korea is anything like the niche fanbase here on TL.

unless the current SC:BW pros get paid something close to what they are receiving, I don't see why they'll switch to sc2... If I'm a Flash and I'm not going to get my huge salary anymore, maybe it's time to think about retiring so I can study something, rather than play a game which is looking very shaky in Korea in the medium to long-term. I would love to see Jaedong vs DRG, and Flash vs MMA, etc as much as the next person but I just don't think it is very likely.

-.-'' Please, don't comment if you know nothing about BW and esports.
1.Decline? Well yes, but it's much slower than sc2's.
2. Starcraft fan,,, well I don't get this one. If I love BW I don't have to love sc2, if I love SC2 I don't have to love BW. It's crazy... When BW guys say that SC2 is shit, noob, and BW was much better. You reply with the following "The 2 game is different". So if it is, I don't get what you wanted to point out..
3. Well you should get banned for this... I don't like LoL either, I just can't watch and play it it's just not entertaining for me, but to call 32 million registered user idiot,.... well it's just seems stupid.

If you are a talent you should get the programmer licence anyway... (if you are a talent in GSL you should get to CodeA, it is the same thing, but BW thing was better because it was forever).

I'm quoting this article http://www.complexitygaming.com/news/2969/ They used viewers, I used viewers.
Regardless, 20,000 monthly foreign subscriptions at ~$10/month is an additional $200,000/month. I don't know much about the costs, but I doubt a couple extra English casters / cameraman / production staff would put them in the red.
It's a market that's established and proven. The income to cost ratio is just too good to ignore. The bulk of the league's costs will be there with or without a foreign stream.

Not everyone watches SC2 streams because of time differences, more important matters to do etc. I havent been able to watch many of the streams because of college (Midterms and the Party scene) but I still keep up with SC2 Coverage.

Ï think that with blizzard finally giving a shit about professional gaming (unlike BW) they will not let KeSPA do anything that would hurt western ESPORTS, such as making barriers (like progamer licences) against foreigners. In this case it is actually usefull that Blizzard cares about their money and enofrces their position (even though I find it absurd that they can do it).

I hope GOM is able to keep running also. Two tournaments would be better for the scene.
