What do you use your mouse buttons for? - Page 8

I don't bind any of my mouse buttons. Mainly, because not all mice have the same buttons, and I don't want to end up playing with another mouse sometime, and not have the buttons I'm used to. Also, as some have mentioned, it would interfere with your mouse accuracy since you'd be applying pressure to a region of the mouse in order to press a button, while at the same time you are trying to guide your mouse to a different location.

Well I don't use them because when there's a LAN, you can't use mouse buttons

I keep seeing comments like this but I can't find any proof that they're true. MLG and GSL let you use your mouse drivers, IEM and Dreamhack don't say anything regarding the use of mouse buttons. I'm not using macros I'm merely assigning keyboard commands (numbers 7-0, backspace and F5/F6) to mouse buttons.

If this is true, what specific LANs do not allow you to use mouse buttons?

It's not that I don't believe people it's just that I can't find any current evidence that bans mouse buttons after searching through MLG, GSL, IEM and Dreamhacks rules for their SC2 tourney's. Simply put, I'm thinking this was once a rule but has fallen out of practice in the modern day SC2 scene.

Like I said before, anybody is more than welcome to prove me wrong but after searching as best I know how, I can't find any set of rules that bans mouse buttons.

I use one of the side-buttons on my deathadder for base cam switch, and i use backspace inject trick (so its basically mouse-click inject i guess), barely have to move my hands to inject everything.

Forward is base cam for me, while back is bound for snapping to a set location.

It may not be necessary, but it sure as hell does make everything easier when you don't have to stretch your hand across a keyboard to perform certain actions.

It'd be a pain to set up your mouse drivers at every computer you were assigned to at a LAN even if it was allowed wouldn't it? It's not worth it, people can play fine without it. Nothing against people who use them though. I don't care if you use mouse tricks or not, the snipe with scroll wheel trick... Didn't use ghosts vs Z anyways, I can spam click fast enough for inf. terran anyways. Way more satisfying for me anyways to click a lot of times wraghhhh swarmmm^^

When I play Protoss and Terran I use Mouse3 for all my Nexi/OCs for making workers and spells from them(mules, chronoboost etc.). I find it more comfortable

My mouse settings are stored on board. Literally all I have to do is plug it in and the drivers auto install from my mouse onto the computer with my saved settings. The wonders of on board memory for your mouse! So... that's only really a problem if you're using an older mouse, as most high end gaming mice these days have on board memory for this reason.

The mousewheel for snipe is an interesting idea, although I can't really think of a spammable Protoss ability like that. Then again, I'd think that since you'd have to be targeting while spamming your mousewheel, having snipe as the mouse wheel would actually be counter productive.

i am a hi dia, low master i have a razer naga and i use 4 5 6 9 on my mouse and it feels perfectly fine for people saying it lowers mouse accuauracy, you have no clue what your talking about... it just takes time getting used too thats all. WTF are you people saying that its gimmiky for??!?!?!? ....

If you're holding your mouse via fingertip grip you need all of your fingers to grip your mouse. If you use your fingers to press gimmicky mouse buttons other than left/right click, you loose stability and therefor precision.
Besides: your keyboard should have enough buttons, unless of course you are playing with a numpad only. In that case the Naga may be viable.

I have MX518.

Thumb button for bases.
Second additional button for 0

If I had more button (another mouse) I probably wouldn't use them because I am used to this mouse, 7 years already. :D

I use one of my thumb mouse buttons for "base switching" or what was originally the "backspace" key. Makes larva injects easier for me.

I have a G500. I use the forward button for my main base cam. The back for my natural and the middle one for either the ramp to my main or my warp-in pylon. Ever since I've gotten used to this, makes life so much easier

I tried having basecamera binded to my mouse button but couldn't get used to it so I went back to having it on spacebar.

Coming from a wow background i tried to use my mouse buttons for certain things such as probe production hotkey or commonly used control groups but have miserably failed and more than 1 year ago came to the conclusion that the mouse is to important for your gameplay to have your mouse hand moving around it to hit buttons, unlike wow where you actually had times where keys could be used instead of mouse movement ( more comfortably i mean ) and you had A LOT of keybinding to do for stuff like arena where you had to have about 20-30 macros to cast specific things of specific guys thus the extra buttons felt more than welcome.
A good strategy means leaving your opponent room to make mistakes
