UI still sub-par 2 years later. Why don't we care? - Page 81

I'm still waiting for something major to change. Gameplay or UI it doesn't matter but something needs to change because i really want to play the game but it's just not as exciting as it should be. Really big thumbs up for this and FRB thread. Even if we don't succeed at least we have a place to rant about it.

Please keep this bumped, is there anyone that posted this on the official battle.net forums?

I really feel blizzard knows that we hate b.net 2.0 but they will only change it bit by bit with the expansions they announced to make us keep buying the game.

I agree with everything you posted.

Custom games in my opinion is the worst issue.
I bought WC3 almost exclusivly for the custom games. I didn't like ladder, but I enjoyed playing customs, especially more unpopular/unknown rpgs and stuff like that.

That can't be done in SC2. Nothing past page 3 get played. Custom games in SC2 have been a huge dissapointment; even if they reverted to WC3 system (10 years ago) I would be very happy.

@Kingsky, yes. And there are topics about it. See the topic called "I am so, so dissapointed". There was also a topic posted with this topic's contents. It used to be on "Popular Topics", but maxed out.

This is Mr. Chae's comment in a recent interview by PlayXP:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=324411

"Personally as a gamer who enjoys Starcraft 2, I don’t think the game itself has any inherent problems. I would like to see the community aspect of Battle.net reinforced. It’s so lonely regardless of whether you win or lose. There’s nowhere to communicate. Only when there is a place for gamers to gather and communicate, they will continue to play so the fact that Battle.net is like a console game in that regard disappoints me."

Should be added to the OP?.

Great find, I'll edit it in.

It's funny to read so many articles, nicely photoshoped pictures and at same time boring, that Blizzard will never do that. They're doing that they want.

Maybe after SC2: LotV something of that will be implemented, but Blizzard developers are very lazy to do really good things.

Very nice read indeed. I also miss the wc3 interface a lot, it was so much fun just hanging out with friends and getting to know new people. Also the tournaments is something I miss. Now most of my friends quit playing, and I'm left all alone in a dark random place...

There were also other interviews by esfi that asked Bnet UI related questions. TLO's and Incontrol's answers were the most juicy. Here are the links with time stamps.

TLO at MLG Winter Championships 2012

iNcontroL at MLG Winter Championships 2012

Sheth at MLG Winter Championships 2012

Minigun at MLG Winter Championships 2012

In DjWheat's shows there is lots of good critisism regarding Bnet. For example in Inside the Game episode that aired 2012-03-06 Painuser, Machine and Incontrol gave critisism regarding chat & shared replay viewing (question starts 1:31:10): http://blip.tv/insidethegame/episode-6037316

If somebody finds similar interviews where progamers criticize Bnet UI features it would be good to link them here.

(edit: added link to ItG episode)

thanks

So GSTL finals in the middle of a great back and forth game between MKP and Parting, and guess what, MKP disconnects!

Even more imbarassing, Dustin Browder who made the quote "you won't want LAN" is in the crowd with them chanting "We Want LAN"

This is like Jaedong vs Flash NATE MSL finals, except its Blizzard's fault.

We don't actually need LAN to solve that problem. Shared-replays with a play-game-from-here button so we can resume a dropped game would do it. And you could ALSO use it for plain old computer crashes and whatnot.

I never really thought about this until I first got DotA 2... At which point I wondered why users are able to drop from custom games.

In Dota 2, having a disconnect in a game is more common than not having one, so we just pause and wait for the d/c'd person to reconnect and continue play from where we dropped off.

I understand why "lagging out" would be necessary on ladder games, particularly team games, but why custom 1v1 games?

Hm, interesting. Never looked at it from that perspective.

Boom, someone hacked this in already: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=328785

Not quite a shared replay, but resuming works beautifully. Make sure when you restart the map your spawn positions are the same or it crashes right now.

Imagine you played let's say a PvZ and you lost a 200/200 game.
Now imagine there is shared replay viewing, and you are looking with your mate.
You pause the replay right before a huge 200/200 battle and you go;
"Damn, this is where I lost the game, we had even macro but my 200 army control is just so bad"
Imagine now there is a button, while viewing a replay together on b.net, that says "Assume control of game".
And now the replay pauses and you and your mate can choose which player to control, set up hotkeys etc, and just start the game from there.

God fucking damn that would be SO SWEET.

You can do that right now with the hack that helpful poster made. Not quite as user friendly but it does work.

i dont get how a game thats 2 years old still has such a poor interface
on one hand blizzard seems genius on the other side it seems like they lack motivation or developers i dont know
other games have an interface that has too much and u need like 2 days to get all the basic stuff xD

Well, this is what happens when you hire the same dumb ass that designed the interface for xbox live.
