UI still sub-par 2 years later. Why don't we care? - Page 79

I wonder if Blizzard dropped the statistics because it disarms the players when it comes to balance discussions, and gives Blizzard more power. I remember in a lot of the balance discussions in WC: 3 being based on statistics. A lot of it sucked, but it was something.

It said there were 306 people in public chat channels?! Is there a different stat for private chat channels or is that just the total number of people going into chat channels? That is so hideously low, I felt like. The implementation of the public channels is lousy. You can have only one public channel open at a time... and almost always most channels are empty. Private channels such as 'teamliquid' are more active in both EU and NA. Thankfully they allow opening multiple private channels at a time. I think the numbers you mentioned mean just public channels? For example when I wrote this message there were 73 people in EU public channels for English speakers (I counted this by howering the cursor over each public channel). Total 330 people if you count all languages (according bnet main screen).

They better get it rightby HOTS launch, otherwise it will be the worst case of missed opportunity. Yes the patch 1.5 does not promise much regarding the social features. On the other hand it is very interesting to see how they implement the marketplace (arcade). It can potentially be a big improvement regarding the custom games. I do hope that people are not satisfied too easily. They did not give any schedule regarding the v 1.5. Also the quality of the Bnet UI features Blizzard has delivered after the release has been lacking. Time will tell how big improvement the v 1.5 will be. But one thing is certain - There will still be much to improve after v 1.5: social features (clans, chat improvements, etc), statistics, replay tools, etc. I hope community will actively remind Blizzard regarding this.

It would be horrendous if they kept the same UI I was lucky to get D3 beta key couple of weeks ago. At the moment D3 beta Bnet seems even worse than SC2:s. For example chat channel implementation is worse and it is cumbersome to check others' profiles & heroes. Also the friends list requires that both parties always accept each other to the list. Thankfully the game itself seems promising.

There are only predefined public chat channels (trade, hardcore, looking for group and class specific) and no private channels. I am not sure how many users can fit in one channel (40+ is the most I have seen in one channel). There is only one chat channel window, which is not resizable or movable. You can have only one channel open at a time. The buffer is very short and at the moment you cannot ignore spammers. There are no restrictions how many messages can be send in a certain time period. One spammer can fill the whole buffer with couple of long pastes in a second (I am pretty sure Blizzard will implement some kind of ignore for the retail version). You cannot access chat channels in-game. It is cumbersome to check who are in the channel as it requires opening the attendee list from the context menu. The attendee list is located over some player profile UI elements, so when checking others' profiles and heroes you often want to close it. There is no chat gem ![]() The only noticeable improvement over SC2 is that there is no auto scroll in chat windows. It would be very straightforward to implement the latter to SC2 also. The private, party & in-game chat is located in a separate always open window. All in-game messages such as NPC messages use that window too. Of course D3 and its' Bnet is still in beta stage, but I am not expecting major improvements. No wonder why they wanted to cut chat channels in first place as the current implementation is not commercial quality in my eyes. A month ago Blizzard stated that there will be no big changes to the chat channel interface before release: http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/no-changes-to-chat-before-release Here is a youtube walkthrough to the D3 chat interface: Some related discussion topics from TL's D3 forum: D3 Bnet is going the same way as SC2 and Chat channels at Release.
