A new post is up on the B.net forums, it talks about the D3 RMAH and "Global Play" (for Diablo 3, not SC2):
Global Play: When Diablo III presales began, we mentioned as part of the purchase process that Diablo III players would be able to choose to play on game servers based in the Americas, Europe, or Asia, regardless of what region they were connecting from or which language-version of the game they purchased (with certain restrictions). As you’ll see in the updated TOU, the name for this functionality is “Global Play,” and we’ll be providing more information about exactly how it works, including the restrictions noted above, prior to Diablo III’s launch.

Quite pathetic that they are rebranding a core feature that has been there since 1998 with B.net 1.0, as some sort of new and revolutionary feature so awesome that it demands its own trademarked name.
But region locking still hasn't been fixed yet. and there is no sign it will be for SC2.

blizzards gonna add some of these features on HoTS and will hope for a pat on the back for something old...
|
I suspect the reason for the lack of improvements is financially motivated. Developing "real" improvements costs time and money, whereas retroactively implementing features from prior games is easier and simpler from a development and technical aspect.
I fear this is a problem recurrent throughout a majority of video game companies and their respective offerings. It's cold-hearted capitalism and does not engender the community's favor.

This thread makes me cry of truth :'(

I think Blizzard afraid, if they let ppl play freely anywhere on sc2, that some ladder goes empty since everyone who actually want to get somewhere will try themselves on the korean ladder
|
Checking out those 28 screenshots of what bnet could look like actually made me sad. The video depicting the real reason for blizzard not putting in lan support was hilarious yet true. Ever since wow became the cash cow blizzard gave up trying to actually make good games and went straight for the bank.

I'm done with blizzard. I'm never going to buy anything from them.

This is my thinking as well. It costs money to overhaul a UI, and what do they gain from it? Battlenet is free. So they're not trying to retain subscriptions. Attracting new players? For a two year old game? Not likely. They're just trying not alienate the current user base too much until Diablo 3 hits.

I don't think that's true. I think Starcraft is a great game. However the interface is somewhat subpar. As people mentioned already, if you add LAN as an option alot of people and tournaments would be off b.net which makes it harder for blizzard to track everything - yes, blizzard does track everything. They do this to balance maps, races and matchups. I think it's a good thing. My prime issue is the disconnect thing. Especially in custom games. Let's get real - if my opponent disconnects from a ladder game, I really don't mind getting the "free points". But it's so frustrating when pros have to restart games, just because they have a disconnect.
Oh, and they should really do alot more to support the tournaments. If they had a small box (like when they patch or have maintenance) when a tournament is on there would be alot more casuals joining the streams (like LoL). I think alot of bronze-gold players don't have any idea what TL is.

There are people in NA who actually do play on Korean servers and not with massive ping.
In fact, before SC2, when we could play on any server we wanted, not everyone flocked to the Korean servers, and playing on nonlocal servers did not significantly increase ping.

This! * everything in the world.
Blizz next time you decide to do a platform don't let some simpering console developer do it.
If you hear the words minimum viable product shoot him in the face.

This thread is so amazing to read, so much potential in battle.net but blizzard does not seem to ready ti implement these. Which i do not see a valid reason for, this could greatly improve the game feeling.
Kinda wish some other company steps up, makes an RTS and implement this all and leaves blizzard behind. (won't happen because of the name "starcraft").
I just hope heart of the swarm will have a completely redone UI, one that is actually worth of a game called STarcraft and an improvement to the previous battle.nets instead of making it worse.
|
When is the new patch coming? I'm starting to feel like they just announced it to make people complain a little less about this topic... Hopefully is gonna come out soon.
Anyway let's keep this thread alive!
|
HotS won't sell anything at all if they don't fix these things, People that left won't be back for the same cheap experience.

It is truly amazing to read this, isn't it? Indeed, the insane potential and time that players has put in and the ideas we have presented to Blizzard, yet they will probably do MINOR SHIT improvements to the UI next patch, bitches...
Well well, might aswell quit the game. What's the point? Just 1v1 and do boring ass customs, nothing else.

I'm still in under shock at how B-net could have gotten this much worse, back in WC3 I was wondering what other cool features B-net 2.0 could have, but all the good features just ended up disappearing...
Battle.net 2.1 or whatever they wanna call it is long over due. Add all these suggested features into HotS and I will be one happy customer !

HuskyStarcraft just uploaded yet another anti SC2 UI video. This time he compares the Dota 2 UI to the Sc2 shit one.

The Diablo 3 open beta is this weekend. I know this is hard to believe, but the chat and social features in it are actually WORSE than SC2.
Seriously, download the beta and observe how absolutely awful the social interface is, if you even want to call it that.
To me it's clear Blizzard is intentionally seeking to destroy the social aspects of their games, they don't want people building communities or making new friends on the service.... why, I have absolutely no idea.

exactly my thoughts. respect to husky for putting this into a video.
i as many others was blown away by the dota 2 BETA ui. and not that much after that i became sad realizing how terrible bnet still is even after all this time.
valve picked up the old bnet and brought it to 2012 with improvements and nice useful stuff evrywhere. while blizzard left the old bnet and almost evrything good about it behind and replaced it with "SHINY!"
