You can see your frinedlist/chat channel in game. There are fewer slash commands, but think about what you actually got from slash commands in BW. http://classic.battle.net/info/commands.shtml Number of users, time, help, dnd, whois, ignore. etc. All of these things are already available on screen, or a few clicks away. You cant mod chat channels, but I doubt that would make people want to use them. Dont blame SC2 on the fact that you have no friends. Its true people dont socialize on chat channels very much, but the community has changed. People still playing SC2 are try hard. They mostly want to ladder. BW didnt really have an official ladder. The unofficial ladders had problems themselves. It took more time to find games. The matchmaking wasnt nearly as even. The system could be cheated (see Combat-Ex) and in many of them you had to report your games, including a reply. If you forgot to save that replay, that was it. It was gone forever. The Dota 2 UI looks about the same as SC2. I do wish Blizzard let you upload your own picture, but you can understand the're concerns. Profile Pictures play a more prominent role. Im not intersted in seeing some fat chicks infected vagina everyday, everytime I ladder. Dota 2 has no dedicated tab for replays. Its not clear to me even at this time were the replays are stored. SC2 tells you right away. You click "Show in folder". If you need to organize a match, you have a perfectly suited chat channel, minus mod functionality. if you need to discuss something, such as "This UI sucks!" post on TL. If you want to socialize, whatever that means, you can meet people on TL or ingame. And if your really lonely I suggest you 1) get a grilfriend(or more if 1 isnt enough) 2) drink more, smoke more, pick your poison 3) kill youself 4) Go play LoL No, you're wrong. Social features are important more than ever because the number of active players is going down constantly. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the game is left with only the "tryhards", because all the social players have left the game due to the lack of social features and the horrible custom game system, which has all but killed the custom map scene, which was thriving in wc3. Dota 2 has no dedicated tab for replays. Its not clear to me even at this time were the replays are stored. SC2 tells you right away. You click "Show in folder". Why do you need a dedicated tab for replays when all replays are available at the single click of a button from your match history. Everything is associated by context (which is the best way for organizing data IMO). And its not just your own match history, you can download a replay from any friend's match history. Sharing replays is as simple as giving your friend a match ID, which allows him to quickly view the game. And then you ignore the best parts of DotA 2 UI - Jumping to any high level game and watch it directly from the client. The ability to spectate any friend's game. The update news inside the client. Hero performance statistics, win loss (for all levels, not just for high levels). Your nose is pretty brown at this point.

SC2 has declined in popularity. Thats just the casuals leaving. These people jump from game to game, new experience to new experience. They would leave regardless. The only way you can keep them is by watering down the core gameply. What I suspect people pinging for the good ol days of War3 or whatever are really suffering from is nostalgia. Youve gotten older. Your closer to dying. Your afraid of dying. I get it. That being said, of course the lack of LAN mode and shared replay is unacceptable. SC2 map editor will take time to learn. It has far more technical potential than the BW one did, or even the 3rd party ones did. Who cares about meaningless automated tournaments? We have real tournaments everyday for real money. For gods sakes have you people never head of IRC? Vent? Teampeak? Twitch.tv? They all have moderated chat.

Why are you so hard on blizzard that you cannot even admit that it is bad? Do you actually think it is good? Your suggestion of using IRC etc. has nothing to do with this thread unless you were suggesting IRC style chat channels in the SC2 UI... which would be awesome.

The thing is, WC3 maintained high popularity for such a long time solely because of it's awesome custom map community and easy to access community features. I had friends, casuals, by your definition, buy WC3 3 years after it's release just to start playing. WC3 was a hub where I just could hang out, play a myriad of games, and be for hours. It was standalone, so much better than the rest. I'm sure BW players feel the same way about their game. SC2 to me is just another game, sadly. Perhaps people have gotten older, but I haven't heard of anyone hyped up to buy SC2 these days.

DotA is using the War3 client, it promotes War3 sales, and that's pretty much the only thing that counts. Sure, a lot of people especially in Asia use pirated versions and don't play on the official B.Net servers but the point stands; DotA is a custom map keeping the original game alive despite its age. That's a situation we'll never see happening in SC2 with the way things are right now.

Because you think social connectivity, chat mediums, automated tournaments, accessibility/ease of use, and all the other issues with Bnet 2.0 are irrelevant, they are therefore irrelevant. Yeah, right. Get your head out of your ass.

Jesus, I would spend hours and hours playing the custom games on Warcraft 3 because of the amazing community and fucking innovative games it had. SCII? Can't find a decent map or have that experience playing with the same people over and over. Every custom game feels robotic and 90% of the time the people in the custom game with you don't even talk. Sigh.
