really awesome campaigns!
i love the way i added the new cutscenes, makes it feel more interesting and motivating c:

tho, why do you use those stretched models? like the defiler mound or infestor/defiler/sunken colony?
even if it looks a bit more like the ones from sc1, aren't the original models better?

I am pleased to announce the release date of Episode 6 - Queen of Blades!

The United Earth Directorate has taken control of the Dominion throne world of Korhal and now rules over most of the Koprulu Sector. Arcturus Mengsk has narrowly escaped capture and execution, but a number of UED psychics and scientists have learned to influence the second Overmind through a mixture of powerful drugs and telepathic commands. As the forces of admiral DuGalle prepare to redeploy after their victory on Char, Sarah Kerrigan, James Raynor and Arcturus Mengsk are once again working together to overthrow their tyrannical rule.
Replay the final events of the Brood War on Starcraft 2, on February 1st, 2013!


As of today, all maps would be playable but we're not quite finished with the polishing and bug fixing. So it won't technically be released in January, but close enough =) We did all scripted events as cutscenes, and added a lot of terraining and some special effects. We only hope you're going to enjoy it.

Is it possible to create some random animation to make them opening their mouths? Maybe some repeatable animation of opening mouth, not linked with text, like it was on SC1 portraits?

You would think so, but no. There is a way to do it, but it involves a lot of boring and tedious work finding suitable portrait animations used with the SC2 campaign dialogue and linking sound files to them, and we're already spending half a lifetime on this, so...

Mapster has some minor server issues occasionally, they usually don't last longer than a few minutes.

Keep in mind that Overmind is way old. A lot of newer custom models are missing from the old mod which episodes 2 and 3 currently use. The stretched Infestor is horrendous, I agree.

Wow, this is incredible - great work! I've been waiting for all the campaigns to be finished before diving in, so I'm hotly anticipating February. I was wondering if once the final chapter is done if there will be some sort of package/installer or something like that with all required files, or will I have to install all parts individually and with the different mod versions? And just to be clear, this will be all the missions from SC1 and BW, correct?

For now you will have to download each campaign individually plus two mods (eight files total), but an installation guide is available on the Rebel Yell page. A package with installer may happen if I can get one of my friends to program a few lines, but no promises.
Yes, this will be all 58 maps from the original Starcraft and BW campaigns.

I've been meaning to replay the SC1 & BW campaigns ever since the SC2 beta came out, but after being used to 3D graphics, good pathfinding and unlimited unit selection, it was just painful to try and play the original SC. As for your suggestion, people have also suggested youtube links and such at the end of maps, kind of like "now watch this video" - but I feel like this kind of thing would hurt the immersion. I get that the lack of the cinematics leaves a big hole on the whole thing, but it just sounds like too much hassle for the player to have to bounce between youtube/Brood War/whatever and SC2 inbetween maps.

Just made an account to say what everyone already knows - this remake is AWESOME - kudos to you guys for all the hard work!

I'd just like to reiterate what DarkManX_BG said - it would be nice to know where the cinematics fit in the game. I agree that youtube links are not the best idea since they are not guaranteed to stay around, but simply having a non-intrusive message saying something like "Optional Cinematic: The Downing Of The Norad II" or something in between missions, even if its just small text at the bottom of the Victory/score screen, would be super-useful.

You say it breaks the immersion, but right now I am alt-tabbing between every single mission to see if its time for a cinematic. Also because the levels don't have numbers on them while playing or on the briefing screen* usually I have to go back to the campaign launcher menu each time to check the level number and then alt-tab back to check the list of cinematics.

TLDR: So +1 vote for in indication of when to watch the cinematics in game.

Started playing the Rebel Yell campaign yesterday. So much nostalgia, the music, the sounds, the unit responses, thank you for it. This is the perfect remake, thank you for taking me back 13years

Is there any chance, that for episode 6, you can make it so we can skip the in mission cutscenes by pressing escape like in the WoL campaign? I am replaying the other campaigns right now, and it is rather irratating

We don't have any plan about that, but if you feel it's worth it then we may add a little something. We will think about it when we're done with Queen of Blades.

Only the longest ones will be skippable in the first version. Skipping cutscenes is a lot more complicated than it sounds, and it wasn't a high priority since you couldn't skip them in Brood War either.

I don't want to speak about other episodes too much until episode 6 is released and bug free, but it won't be the end of the project. We definitely have thought about episodes 2 and 3 and will update the mod with any appropriate HotS goodie.

Ahh OK fair enough, that makes sense. I do think it would be nice to at least all the campaigns, the two mods, and the installation guide all bundled up in a .rar or something though, for simplicity's sake

about Episode 2 & 3:
am I not able to play these episodes until the fix comes out, or are there just bugs you have to deal with?
I want to play these campaigns (including WoL) before HotS comes out, and I'm really looking forward to play these awesome remakes!
