What makes me giggle is that GOM gave us their definition of progamer and their cultural impact on judging progamer's behaviour yet maybe it's them who should be educated by us, western people, on how to keep the terms of agreements and do business with class.
Sure they explained us how they value honor however I see some major work to be done with their sense of justice, transparency and respect towards your partner/clients.

there are SO many allegations going on that I seriously do not even know what is truth/false. I have no doubt that half of you valiant "man-of-the-people" types have your head up your asses and barely even know what you are talking about, aside from what you may have read in Destiny's stream livechat or some other god-awful cesspool of opinions.
At the same time, I wish that official teamliquid posters, not these random-ass sub-200 post posters that rant around acting like they are experts of culture interactions/Esports (of which neither are likely true) would give their opinions. It might make following this drama a little more bearable to see some information that I know to be at least somewhat reliable.... -_-"
I personally don't see what is wrong with this statement. I know nothing about any live slandering, proposed Code S spot in the GSL that may be revoked, etc. etc., but by God, Naniwa has committed the most disrespectful act GOM has yet encountered. They NEED to react to this, and not let it just occur unpunished. It damages the legitimacy of their business if they let this mindset of: "Oh, I have no chance anyways, might as well make my probes dance and go to get some food."
Where does it stop? GOM knows. It stops here.
EDIT* - This thread is full of such misinformed, immature opinions that I'm literally never going to look back on it after this. The Code S spot was a gift unto GOMTV's prestigious tournament as a result of the LXP. Naniwa himself has apologized and made a public statement agreeing with the actions. I don't know why everyone is getting mad FOR Naniwa when even he believes he deserves his punishment. GOMTV has done so much for this community, but they actually start conducting like a business and not your BEST BRO and you shits almost immediately start talking out of your asses. This Naniwa case is cut-and-dry.

What we would like to ask from all of the GSL fans is to not simply see this incident as just a simple meaningless single game between NaNiWa and NesTea. But it was a meaningless game! and usally games like this are not played in tournaments (even in gsl), letting this game take place was one of the reasons to lead things in this accident.

I agree with this. I can't blame a player for behaving weird if he was put in a weird situation. Naniwa had to show respect? How about GOM showing respect to two already 0-3 DQ players and not making them play a meaningless game. GOM wanting to air that game become responsible of a possible let down for the viewers. And boy they did it.
That game could have been at most a ladder quality game not a grudge match that has value only when there is something at stake.
|
They play "meaningless" games all the time. It happens in round robin, that's the nature of the tournament. WCG had them, they just didn't show it to us.
Blizzard Cup was supposed to be a celebration of the amazing 2011 year and basically the best of the best. It got changed (you guys didn't complain at all about it) to invite great players that won tournaments worldwide, not just GSL.
It was televised, and he completely blew it off. Who cares about "meaningful or meaningless" games. That's a absolutely stupid definition.
We're not progamers, we're fans. Quality games are what we consume. Are you Naniwa's aged disabled mother or handicapped son? No, you are not. You are a fan. We pay (or stay up) to watch awesome games between our favorite players, not watch Naniwa win money so he can feed us.

I doubt he believes he deserves punishment. More likely he wants to play in Code S and thinks apologizing is the only option that gives him a chance or sth along those lines. GOMTV had a broken tournament system, Naniwa broke no rules and they punished him to cover their asses. Fuck them.

That's the attitude of the new generation. You are supposed to listen to authoritative figure.. yes your boss and your teacher. ESPECIALLY a teacher, they are there to teach you and discipline you. You obviously have the same mentality as Naniwa, thinking you are special because your parents let you do whatever the fuck you wanted to your whole life. Not all rules are written in stone you dumbass. GOM is an organization, they have the right to choose who they want to play in their tournaments. People like you thinking what naniwa did is right ... is killing esports. He is a professional gamer, not some guy playing by himself in his basement. He's got fans, he's OPPONENT is also a person and has fans. He's is not the only person living in the world as much as he thought he was when he made the decision. GOM told him that he can't forfeit and have to play, it's an anticipated match of the day. Instead of playing , he turns around and lifts hand off keyboard. Basically saying " fuck you gom" i play when i want to, not when you tell me to.
Well if your going to say that , GOM has every right to now say " You are right, you play when you want to, put we don't want you."
You mad now ? Keep defending naniwa guys

Lol at this post. You have to challenge people and ideas all the time. I don't care if you are a boss, a policeman, a teacher. if I come to you with a question I demand explication and argumentation not authority. Blind authority is communism. My boss may be in his leading position but If I challenge him the right way I can take his position or at least prove him wrong. Following rules without thinking is for sheep.
And challenging ideas and people doesn't lead to raging with a AK47 in a public place. Frustration does.

All rules NEED to be written in stone before they can be applied. How would you feel if you were walking on grass that had no sign saying you couldn't and ended up with a 250$ fine. Would that be fair? If rules aren't written in stone it gives higher authorities the ability to abuse their power through their own personal bias, therefore giving some people different punishment then other people. You can't just make up rules on the spot, they need to specific and understood, not just so vague that they can be applied to any situation that GOMTV wants to apply them to. Also the language barrier probably did not help the situation. I'm sure many things got lost in translation.

Your grass example is absurd. You don't choose to live in the world, that's why there are rules and they have to be written. But GOMTV don't force people to join their tournament, they are a business and organization, they can choose who they want and not want included in their tournament. They can make up rules on the spot whenever the fuck they want to, it's their business. What naniwa did is a punishment .... i don't understand how people can get so anal about someone being punish for his actions. Even IF he was seeded form MLG, Gom has every right to revoke it.

Look to professional sports as well, the players may not like the rulings of their respective league, but almost universally the league and its organizers have final say. In just about every professional sports if rules are vague, the ruling body makes a decision with the information they have, and amends the rule to avoid any future complications.
This has happened. Get over it already. All the 9inch dick forum trolls should be getting prepared for their normal of duty of ruining LR threads that involve IdrA (this is undoubtedly going to happen when he is playing games back in Code-S - the IdrA factor), and allow civil incident discussion to recommence.

You have a problem understanding defending a principle. Nobody cares and argues that GOM had the right to do it. Of course they had cause it's their organization. However that doesn't have to make the fans agree with their actions because it may have been the wrong thing to do.
GOM has the right ro randomly ban MVP from GSL. You would just comply without debating the matter just because GOM is GOM and they can do what they want?
