No need to reinvent the wheel, use the built in one.

But otherwise - a weekend packed with great games and great players, and impressive canned interviews and other content. By far the best production values of any tournament I've seen and I think I'd have to include GOMTV. Nice job with the Gordon Hayward stuff, epsorts needs this kind of promotion if it's going to get more mainstream.

No need to reinvent the wheel, use the built in one. The big thing is the in-game one will display whatever shared account the players were using, and it may be misleading to some. But yeah, the overlay was really hard to read at resolutions below 720p. The contrast wasn't high enough, white and yellow just don't work =P On October 10 2011 13:20 storm44 wrote: 9.5 because of the LoL tournament between semi-finals and finals. I don't think anyone expected a LoL match at that moment and I know that if I was a European who waited a long ass time for the finals I would be pissed that I would have to stay up all morning. It felt like a bait and switch honestly because I think they knew that if it was announced or on a different schedule like after sc2 finals not that many people would watch. Other than that everything was amazing and blew every other tourney out of the water. It was always scheduled, since the tournament schedules were announced. Either way, it was a poor decision, imo. Let us choose what we want to watch, and not let different games bleed into other streams. I understand the intent, but it was not executed very well. I think they acknowledged their mistake. Their Twitter specifically stated that the finals would start at 8:30 or when LoL finishes, whichever was later. So they cut the third game off. Too bad this led to stream instability due to the mass influx of people reconnecting to the stream for the first two games ![]()

Now I'll list the stuff to improve. 1. Terrible group format. Group means very little, even though the cash was added at the last minute. 2. 21+ only crowd is dumb. You're cutting out a big chunk of your potential audience. And some players couldn't attend since the age limit for players were 18+ (like leenock and pokebunny). 3. The transition to LoL on the 1st stream was a horrible idea. You guys went from 60k viewers from the previous sc2 match to under 15k on that stream. There is no need to put LoL b/c there was already a 2nd stream for LoL. The player panel where the players interacted w/ the community and joked around had about 50k right before the LoL stream. People would rather watch SC2 related stuff. I"m not hating on LoL b/c there was already a LoL stream, which had lots of viewers. There was no need to put LoL on the SC2 stream. There are viewers from all across the world. Many of them went to bed when you switched to LoL. 4. Award ceremony was awkward and there wasn't a true interview w/ the winner or ask the player to do their shout out. Handing the trophy to stephano was awkward. Next time have a main member of the sc2 community do this part. But of course they would give David an opportunity to do his shout outs. 5. Please use the best casters available to do the finals. HD/Painuser are IPL's main casters but you still need to use the casters that the majority of the audience want (look at the IPL caster poll). HD please don't say m&m in your live casting; it sounds too awkward. And be careful on what you say b/c you stumble on your words a lot. But overall, fantastic job! Can't wait for IPL4!!!

Overall tho they had the best production in any tournament to date. I'd like to see them move away from casinos since they'd get a lot more live fans. It wasn't just the casino though. It was the casino + New Jersey's laws. If it was in Las Vegas, any age could attend, or so they mentioned in one of the panels / interviews. Heck, I could even see myself going to a Las Vegas event. go go allegiant air from local airports in rural western states!

I have mixed feelings about the format, though.

Everything else has been said already, criticisms, what to improve and all that. Best event there has been so far hands down, despite the rough start on D1 & D2. I hope events like MLG will be checking out how it's done. (not like MLG is poorly runned or anything, but there is always stuff to do better and more) Thank you, i enjoyed all of it.

1 - In game scoreboard/look. The look just isn't right for SC2, a futuristic rts. Something similar to IPL 1 would be much better. Something clear and easy to read, but also something that looks appropriate (especially since most maps are dark). 2 - Tournament structure. A single elimination championship bracket just seems odd to me. While it is great that even the Ro32 participants get prize money (definitely keep this), I think a double elimination would seem far less harsh. I realize a change like this would be huge in terms of time management.

+ stream quality + match quality + djwheat & apollo - massive inet problems (not their fault granted, but still sucked) - HD and painuser.. urgh. - jamming the LoL finals in between the sc2 games was a horrible idea - crowd Overall a very enjoyable watch, next time go with casters the community actually enjoys listening to, have it at a place where young people (you know, the majority of gamers) can attend and hopefully avoid any unforseen internetproblems and your tournament should be simply amazing.
