2 criticisms. First, the registration desk where you buy passes to get into the theater and watch was literally in a different casino (Bally's) - a good 15-20 minute walk each way. This was annoying and seemingly pointless. Second, at one point we saw HD and painuser walking through Caesar's just after they had finished a casting stint. I go "Good job casting reactor!" to them, and I got 4 rolled eyes in response. Also, painuser is strangely tall.

Again overall, great job, just needs some tweaks like fixing this (captured from my 22" monitor full-screen at best resolution): ![]()

As someone who's watched plenty of GSL, I notice that Tasteless and Artosis are often commentating on what they are watching on their own screens while the dedicated observer is focusing on something entirely else. This causes a jarring disconnect between the commentary and the displayed action which is more frequent than you would like. Moreover, even the professional observer misses his fair share of the important action -- you see plenty of missed drop play and other critical moments even in the GSL. To err is human, and I don't begrudge a few missteps by the commentators. Personally, I feel it is far better for the casters to cast what they are watching, instead of having a disjointed feel between the commentary and the observer.

1) Having PainUser and HD as the main casting duo made me sick. I appreciate the foreigner cheering and all of that, but they simply can't make non-bias commentaries during games. At some points, it was like there was only one player in the game. There was this one time in the semi-finals between Stephano and TheSTC where PainUser went and said "This is exactly what TheSTC needs to get back into this!"... then you look at the supply count and TheSTC is 40 supply ahead. There are more examples and all, but you get the picture Like I said, it's one thing to want someone to win, it's another to base your entire casting around the performance of one of the players. DJWheat and Apollo need to be promoted as main casters for the next tournament. I understand PainUser and HD are responsible for most of the IPL live streaming schedules, but there's no shame in giving the community what they want. This needs to change for the forthcoming tournaments. 2) Pool-play needs to be redesigned. It's great for the viewers to have tons of matches to watch, but there was really no true competitiveness among the players at that stage. IdrA threw away 2 of his pool play matches and ended up placed in the same bracket as MC who went 6-0 and every other player in the tournament in pool play. Also, on day 1, the fact that the technical problems dictated no more matches would be played in group B made no difference at all bracket wise because at the end of the day, they all get placed in the round of 32. The best way to solve this is design a pool play where all the 32 players are assigned into a group, say 4 groups of 6 and play against each other. Then, according to seeding on the groups, the first place players of each group get to pick who is their opponent in Ro32 in the Championship Bracket. This way, players will have a good enough reason to play their hearts out in Pool Play. Should this have happened in IPL3, MC could have picked anybody in the tournament to play against (IdrA included :D) Minor issues: - The score bar was way to bright and sometimes difficult to read. Easy to solve. - A few lag issues during the Semi-finals and Finals. Also easy to solve. - Interviews need to be better prepared. Sometimes, the questions asked by Anna and Rachel were just silly, especially to Koreans where they just start talking and talking and then the translator needs to sum it up. Other than this, amazing production value and overall a very good tournament.

Even if you are just watching the stream, hearing ~500++ people cheer is damn cool and gives a much better feeling of "yeah he's gonna win this" or "woahhhh this was a huuuuuge moment" as when ~50 people clap and shout a little (and the moderators claps being the loudest bc of their mics.) But well, this is just a small suggestion, overall it was a very good tournament. ![]()

+1 vote for Lani is awesome -really love the top 10 plays/bottom 5, gives the event a "Sports Center" feel -Suggestion - have the observer cycle through the unit tab once in a while. I did seem the do it rarely, unlike every other tournament, but I think it should be a bit more frequent so we can see worker counts etc.

I liked the panels and time fillers...better than watching people milling about the venue like MLG does so much

I really like the idea they have in the GSL, where they have "in... we have - " then cuts to the awesome voice, then the camera zooms in to that player. It just makes it seem thoroughly professional. The overlay could do with a bit of love. The sponsors and IPL logo were fine, but the scoreboard was a little bit too white, so some people on lower settings had problems seeing the scores/ players Closing ceremony. I love the way that GSL uses confetti and streamers, and in western competitions it just seems to be a "Here, take the trophy and cut to closing credits." That, and the closing interview, although hilarious, was too impromptu and awkward. It should have a set list of questions that will be asked, with a little personalisation. While we're on it, as ninjamyst pointed out on page 1, their entrances should be a lot better. I didn't mind the LoL finals, it gave me a chance to do something else, but I agree that it shouldn't take 15 minutes to choose characters and stuff like that. I think that's all from me. I can be really critical at times, so I don't mean to come across as a dickhead. Apart from that, keep up the great work, and see you at IPL 4!! TLDR: intros x2, ceremonies, overlays and LoL

I *really* enjoyed when they had a crew go to the site where the internet broke. Something that no one else has done (looking at your MLG!) and they kept finding ways to entertain me while the tournament was essentially shut down. Also HuK vs boxer in broodwar was excellent. So fun. If I have to pick one thing to compare about IPL and MLG, is that IPL doesnt have a pointless crowd stream for 4 hours while we wait for a match to get casted with extremely annoying music. The only thing I disliked about IPL 3 was the audience turn out. Where the hell was everyone? It seemed sooooo empty.

The Good -The production for this tournament was off the hook, and easily 10/10. Multiple streams, pre-recorded interviews, several player camera shots at different angles, crowd/cheerful zoom-ins... all other tournaments should take notes. -3 casting pairs was excellent. I know a lot of people have problems with HD's casting (miscalls, overhype, weird terminology) but I'm personally comfortable with HD despite all that. Personally I felt cats/doa was awkward at times, but that's to be expected as they haven't worked together previously. They're both fine casters, but possibly better off with different pairings. Apollo/wheat were excellent as always. -Prize pool was among the highest, and as a result draws stacked competition. Huge props to IGN for putting up that much money. The bad -The LoL finals being intentionally scheduled to interrupt the sc2 finals was a very, very clear mistake. If you want people to check out LoL, don't make it so forcefully inconvenient when people are clearly continuing to tune in because they want to see the conclusion of the tournament. -The ending ceremony was really awkward, especially when David Ting told Stephano to answer differently because HE was asking the question (probably a nervous/snappy reaction, but it sounded very pompous and completely ruined the vibe of a gigantic foreigner victory)

1) Pool play. Games of no real importance are just that, not important. This isn't really on my end as much as it is the player's ends. If there is nothing on the line, they tend to not try, and I feel like I'm reliving Yellow vs Boxer. So really, I don't care about it. If we are going to have group play like IPL3, put something on the line. Make it its own mini tournament or something. Put down some money, or maybe have the winner of each group get a % of money from the people he/she beat that end up doing really well (I.e. something like Alive getting 5% of Stephano's grand prize for beating him in the group stages... you will start getting some really interesting drama). 2) Casting. PU and HD did a good job casting most of this event, and even the finals. But why are you guys settling for just good? DJ and Apollo were doing fabulous the entire event. This isn't hating on PU and HD. They are both good at doing leisurely casting from the studio (i.e. IPL1/2) but they were just not as good as DJ/Apollo. I'm sure they will get better and better over time, and PU has sick TvX knowledge. A ZvZ finals :S 3) This community doesn't seem to be really into LoL. I know you guys are planning on expanding. If you are going to try to cross communities (which isn't a bad thing), I would say see what this community would mind delving into. For me, personally, I would totally watch Quake just as diligently as SC2. I think this applies to other people around here too (judging from a few IEMs ago when it had QuakeLive and SC2). I would also delve into fighting games and see what it is about if it was included. LoL... not so much, just not for me. I would ask around. 3.1) Obviously, the whole LoL taking the place of SC2 finals sucked for the European scene who stayed up and was hoping to see the finals (as scheduled). There was plenty of time to introduce LoL during the first two days I think. For me, it was great because I could take a break from the awesome event. Our European friends, however, were not very pleased. 4) Stage. There was a lot of awkward moments. I will skip over Randy for obvious reasons. I really do like the Vanna White girls for introduction and stage pablum. However, it really makes it look awful with the stage contrast. Seeing Rachel in that hot white dress and then seeing Stephano in shorts is not really that great. I think you either get the staff to dress more modestly (i.e. kind of like how the translators dressed) or perhaps force players to have a more professional dress code. Maybe dress pants + jersey or if they have a full pants + jersey uniform or something. 4.1) The ending. Talk about anti-climatic. I was thinking there would be confetti everywhere and Freddy Mercury coming out of his grave to sing We Are the Champions. David seemed so nervous (and rightfully so... I wouldn't have been able to open my mouth with such an end to a tournament, nevermind hype up the outro). I think it would be awesome if a very charismatic community figure like DJ Wheat, JP, Day9, etc. was to be used for an event like this. Reading this makes it seem the event was awful, but it was anything but. It was probably the best event of SC2's history. Thank you so much for doing this.

Maybe it's just Stephano who looked like he just got out of bed the entire tournament... I do agree on having the staff that will be in public to be better dressed. Especially the translators. Give the translators their own uniform/dress code that doesn't involve just a red t-shirt.

The atmosphere would have been a lot better with a bigger live crowd. Perhaps the venue was a bad choice, I dunno. It always feels terrible to see a scarcely filled crowd area. By far the worst thing about the tournament was the useless delay between the two semifinals. I don't understand at all what showing the LoL match was supposed to accomplish. It was a Starcraft event, so please don't show a different game instead of the deciding final phase of the SC2 tournament. I'm sure you lost lots of viewers there, especially Europeans due to time zones. I would have stayed up to continue watching SC2, but I didn't want to wait that long and went to bed instead.
