What's with all the hate? Aftonbladet is arguably the first newspaper in the world taking esports this seriously. The 1kr fee is probably, as many already stated, to test how many people would make the effort to pay for the extra content. They provide this awesome service basically free. If one just want's to watch the stream and skip it that's totally fine, but please don't flame them for doing something this awesome.
Personally I don't like Aftonbladet very much, I never buy their newspaper, hardly ever browse their site, but this is just a great initiative, and in my eyes they are increasing thier "goodwill" a lot. Although Aftonbladet and Dreamhack most likely have a deal of some sort, I doubt Dreamhack alone would be providing the same level of coverage with interviews and stuff if they did it on their own(the quality of Aftonbladets coverage is yet to be seen ofc and can only be evaluated afterwards). However, Aftonbladet are going to be there focusing on one thing, namely coverage of the event and players outside of the game. The streaming of the games will still be produced by Dreamhack.
Hopefully they will do a good job, I for one am happy to pay the small ammount of 1 SEK to get access to extra interviews and more. Can't wait!

1 kr is nothing, will pay simply to support ESports, plus, I might be able to get my dad to watch a game or two to make him realize that starcraft is actually a sport equal in standard to football and tennis, simply not as popular. he claims I play too much on a few hours per day, where about 1 hour is actually playing the game -.-

I feel the same way if they do ESPORTS they deserve my 1 kr to spend as they wish. The Fox News thing is spot on, If fox decided to broadcast MLG for .15 cent for extra interviews I would pay for it .

For non-Swedish posters Aftonbladet is a fairly average tabloid therefore it shouldn't be your only source of news. Like most tabloids it is all about the headlines and little else. however, the Swedish posters here are overexaggerating the awfulness of the site, and you can bet that most of them visit the site regularly. It is pretty much the biggest Swedish site on the web.

Yeah, it's pretty much a mix of a super gossip/Fox news/tabloid newspaper, isn't as bad as Fox but it's pretty much widely considered to be moronic.
Aslong as they keep their hands out of the production I don't mind the hassle, loved the interviews by magenta of day9 at dreamhack etc. but I hope they keep that whitehaired dude away from the production this time... I really can't stand him

Just paid my 1kr for plus to support this event. Go Swedish ESPORTS. (Still think its a dumb choice by them though)
|
I would love to pay for it but not when it has anything to do with Aftonbladet. It's the biggest crap news paper in Sweden (the world?). Aftonbladet is not in it for the love of e-sport, they are looking for ways to make money.
It's sad that this post got made because it will make Aftonbladet look like a cool news paper when it's not. So fuck Aftonbladet and everything it stands for, no sane swede reads it.

To people who refuse to pay 1 kr due to Aftonbladets "evil nature":
Think about what you've spent your money on the last couple of days... Are there any saints on the receiving end? You think the 10 kr you paid for that coke last night is gonna help some 10 year old starving girl in Somalia?
It makes no sense to boycott Aftonbladets stream if you are a true fan of esport.
|
The fee of 1kr is because you need a "Plus" account on their website to view the tournament, and that costs 1kr for the first month. After that it's 29kr per month, but you can just cancel it after signing up and it'll last for a month and grant you access to the tournament. So you're not actually paying for the stream itself, you're paying for a service they provide that includes the stream among other things.
There are LOTS of bad things to say about Aftonbladet, but this isn't one of them imo.

I hate AB and everything they do, it's no moral aspect to it. I like coke and I don't give a shit what they do around the world. I wouldn't even watch the stream from AB if it was free. If I don't like it I won't interact with it, simple.

Every one should make like.. 10 accounts and pay with all of them.
What the should do however, is make it possible to buy ONLY the HD stream, not the entire plus-package. And charge 10 kr. We'll all pay anyway!
|
I can't even begin to fathom the stupidity in adding a 1kr fee to watching the stream. If they really wanted any significant ammount of money they would atleast have it at 20kr or something. They are NOT going to get more than 10k paying streamwatchers and with less than 10k kr how are they going to fund even travel expenses?
All they are doing by this is ensuring that less people will actually watch their stream. That is all they are going to get out of it.
I would actually consider paying if I knew the money were actually going to do some good but this low ammount of moey isn't even going to be enough to acomplish anything. The 500 or so swedes that are going to be interested in interviews might be buying this but I sure wont be.

Ok well this actually clears things up. I thought they added a 1kr fee to the starcraft stream specifically which would have been beyond retarded in all aspects. That makes way more sense.
However they are still going to lose a vast majority of the viewers due to this. Most people would rather skip the extra content just for the hassle of setting up an account of doing a pointless transaction plus cancling the account etc.

Paid, even though I never ever will read Aftonbladet, im supporting esports! ;P

Making SVT's stream exclusive and taking something like $5 or $10 would be alot more solid information, if they're looking for statistics.

So what you are actually saying is that you do not want people to make money out of e-sports? Why do you think huge companies sponsor footballteams? Why do you think that Viasat has bought the rights to Champions League for tremendous amounts of money.
I'll tell you, and it will probably change the way you view the world. They don't do it to be nice to you. They do it to make money. Of course Aftonbladet gets involved in e-sports and SC2 because they can earn money from it. What we need to do, is prove to them that they do can make a lot of money out of E-sports. That's the reason for this post. I actually get annoyed reading your silly post. Everyone else in this thread think it's amazing that they believe that there is money to be earned, following the SC2-scene. Aftonbladet may not be the most trust-worthy News Paper in Sweden. However, I think it is amazing that they have realized that there is money in e-sports. It's great and will evolve the scene in Sweden, something we're all trying to achieve...

No I wasn't? I really don't see the logics in that.
Let me make it easier for all of you who like to paint your own picture, I don't want Aftonbladet to make money off anything, they are a bad company, that I don't support.

The Aftonbladet hate in this thread is hillarious, and I'm pretty sure the most vocal "haters" are Expressen readers. Expressen is the exact same shit as aftonbladet, but with a right-wing twist on things.
Personally I'm just bothered by the hassle of paying 1SEK and that it will put alot of people off watching the stream at all, just cause it's a silly low amount and that it feels stupid to break out a creditcard or paypal/whatever to pay it.
I would much rather SVT(play) doing the streaming seeing as they did a good job with their ESPORTS show on the web.

I think it's a silly stand-point. Your hatred for a news paper that with this recent decision support supposedly big love of yours. I don't see the logic in not supporting a big, powerful news paper who has decided to support e-sports. It doesn't make any sense. You can at least support that Aftonbladet has decided to make an investment in e-sports, but you don't and your biggest argument seems to be that they are evil. I just don't see how a paper can be evil by default.

List of assets owned by News Corporation (Fox News)
These include: Hulu, IGN, the FX cable channel and 20th Century Fox - you know, these guys.
So, none of you people should ever watch Star Wars, Die Hard, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Home Alone, Predator, the Simpsons, Family Guy, or X-Men ever again and that is only a tiny, tiny selection of everything you'd have to boycott to avoid giving Rupert Murdoch money. You've got some serious research to do. Have fun!
Anyway....
This count's as a subscription though so if you do not want to subscribe to Aftonbladet PLUS you need to UNSUBSCRIBE as soon as you've paid the initial 1 kr.
That is one reason why it is so cheap: they are hoping you don't realize it is a subscription or forget to cancel it and end up paying them more money. Pretty crappy, in my mind, but showing them that StarCraft 2 is a profitable market to be exploited is really in everyone's best interests here, unless you're one of those people who only likes things until they are popular. In which case, you can just go right ahead and screw yourself, anyway.
