I wouldn't be surprised if people are vastly underestimating how much money these Korean teams actually have. The NASL obviously isn't made of money either, and, unfortunately, it seems that money is simply the main issue here. We all know how much Korean players enjoy playing overseas, and I'm sure many of their players are also disappointed that things worked out this way. Travel is just too expensive sometimes.
It would be entirely free for the Koreans based upon the $2000 they would get...so its you and 15 others competing for $50K...I can't see any reason to not accept. This also ASSUMES the Koreans would all be in the top 16.

Korea did it for the West In the world tournament gsl paid for all travel expenses(including to Korea and within Korea) as well as computers for them to play on (not sure on the food). Let's be realistic here 2000 would barely pay for travel and hotel so if you lose in the first round you are spending money to participate in a tournament in the other side of the world You guys need to remember that GSL has a house for gamers and provides all accommodations they are simply asking for the same treatment. 100% of the travel costs and the entrance tournament fee as well as no deposit. Those demands are not really unrealistic from Koreans, they just might not be in the current budget for NASL.
Read what NASL just posted on travel expenses it came to about $1850

Does this mean MC and Nada will still participate? they are signed to SK for foreign tournaments

This is pretty bad news for everyone... NASL's offer seemed absolutely fine to me and I don't understand what the koreans are thinking, especially since they were very likely to make it past the RO16 for the most part.
I do know much about Kespa, but this kind of teams unionization looks detrimental to the growth of sc2's scene.

I really don't understand how this couldn't work. Is SC2Con that greedy or what? Can someone explain? Kind of ridiculous IMO.

Haha, try to say that to fans of any other competition or sport. Maybe I can't...but Puma still in, so I'm happy to judge people from my high horse! The point is that this won't be the death of NASL.! You've seen how Koreans dominated foreigners badly in so many tournaments, and you can't see differences in play? Honestly, I don't mean to insult you in any way when I say that if you can't see the difference, you just don't really know enough about the game. It's understandable. I don't know crap about basketball, and I really can't tell the differences between play in the NBA or in just college basketball. Plenty assumption on your post!! Let me clarify my point...even if there aren't Koreans involved they will be plenty of competitive and entertaining games played and I think most people wouldn't be able to distinguish if the games were NASL games or games played between Koreans!!
I didn't make any assumptions. You explicitly admitted that you can't tell the difference ingame between Koreans and high level foreigners, unless I misinterpreted that statement somehow - if that's the case, I apologize. I agree that competitive and entertaining games will be played, but the point that I took away from your original post was "one cannot can't even tell the difference, and people need to stop pretending that they can" - so, the natural next step in my thought process was, "Okay, so he can't tell the difference. That's understandable if he doesn't have enough knowledge of the game".

I have contacted SK and inquired about their ability to play. I am waiting for a response.

Well that sucks =/
All props to NASL for what sounds like them trying their best to accomodate the needs of Korean players and getting rebuked time and time again. Given the news I doubt i'll purchase a pass this season (I don't really want to pay to watch second tier competition) which sucks since realistically it is out of NASL's control.
Hopefully something changes at the last minute but it sounds like this was a last minute call as it is so doesn't seem likely =/

Without...
oGsTOP oGsMC oGsZenio oGsEnsnare
STJuly STSquirtle STAce
WeMadeFoxMoon
TSLAlive TSLClide TSLRevival
MarineKingPrime CheckPrime PoltPrime
The league will look a LOT different. At least try to invite decent Koreans who are not in the mentioned teams.

what the dick 0.o well well.. NASL is starting to look more like a NA SL now haha.

Wow.... That sucks D:
Are they supposed to be suspicious of other teams stealing away players while they are not in Korea or something? ;;

Its a shame, but it seems like NASL did a lot to try and help the Korean teams. I don't think there's much else they could do since the only other options are making the prize pool even less top heavy or increasing the travel stipend more, which is probably not economically viable.
I can see it from the Korean PoV though. Even if they make the trip as cheap as possible, which woukd affect performance, they will probably barely break even, and to a lot of teams thats not worth playing games during the night for weeks.
I don't like that SC2Con handled it though. I can see why they would, but I'm sure there are some players and teams who would have wanted to play, but got lumped in with SC2Con. Such a big, and potentially unpopular, decision by SC2Con might prompt some teams to question whether they want to continue being a member. I'll be interested to see their statement.

Wow this is huge... Really bummed out as the NASL was shaping up to be a big contender to the GSL and MLG.......

Do you think it'd be fair to Europeans and Americans that the prizepool should suffer because they can't fund it themselves? I mean, if the travel money, etc. would be the same for everyone, then maybe. But if this was taken out only to fund the Koreans, then I'd see a big, big problem in this.

Tough luck for NASL, but this also means you just lost tons of good players. No good players, no good games, I won't be watching. Sorry!
|
Their chances of taking home good money are incredibly high, not sure why this would be such a problem. I'll dig an all-foreigner league.

This might be better in the long run, just to have a handful of korean. Look on the positive side
Goodluck sir.

I'm gonna wait for a statement by Mr. Chae considering how strong the language in the OP. You make it sound like they arbitrarily stuck their foot in the mud and drew a line and you tried to be the bigger man but they just wouldn't have it.
I'm not saying Korean teams are perfect but i am rather hesitant to believe their position is the type of "give us your free stuff or we will not come to your smelly town" attitude this post implies without further information.
