Metal still suffered from the close spawns on ladder and if they weren't willing to remove those, I'm actually kinda glad they dropped the map. Not to mention that there were still positional imbalances (6 oclock nat was closer to main than others ...)

I'm glad to get my 3 vetos back, and after some testing on the new maps these last two weeks, I can safely say that I like at least 2 of them (this might change after extensive ladder play, we'll see).

That means I can probably veto 2 of the new maps, and then either Shattered (because of close pos) or Backwater (don't like it).

I would have liked to see a non-close position Metalo (and Shattered as well), but I'm not too sad seeing it gone.

Generally, I'm happy with the season 3 map pool. It's not GSL quality, but it's better than season 1 and 2.

I have mixed feelings here. I liked metalopolis somewhat even with its problems and don't really know what to think about the new maps.
But only the weak, they lack the passion to prevail, but not us, only the weak.

Was hoping Blizzard would do the smart thing and remove close spawn positions on Metal/Shattered and remove Slag/Backwater/Typhon/Scrap.

But they pull more stupid shit and just get rid of metal instead of doing a fix that has been done by so many tournaments.

Why they removed Metalopolis

In Season 3, we’re introducing a number of changes to the map pool; we’re dropping some older maps, and adding a number of new ones. One of the more notable changes we’re making is the removal of Metalopolis. We realize that this is quite a popular map, and we wanted to discuss the reasons why we might make such a change and hopefully lay some of your concerns to rest. We also would like to point out that merely because a map has been removed from the pool, does not mean that it will never make a return in the future. Despite its flaws, Metalopolis has strong potential to be a map that returns in future ladder seasons.

Still, there are reasons why we decided to retire Metalopolis for now:

Metalopolis has been around for quite a long time, over a year including beta. We felt that taking it out of the rotation would make some room for variety in the map pool.

Metalopolis suffers balance issues when close spawn positions occur, but becomes too predictable when they are simply disabled. Close positions have been under a lot of discussion lately, and we’re definitely examining better options to allow for random spawn positions across the map pool without also creating too much predictability and vulnerability to proxy rushes.

Overall balance has also proven to be an issue on Metalopolis -- even factoring in close position spawn issues. It’s among the least balanced maps currently in the ladder pool, and along with Scrap Station (also being removed) and Tal’darim Altar, has a heavy (60%+) bias toward zerg at the highest levels of play.

If Metalopolis makes a return to the ladder pool in the future, it will likely receive some balance tinkering, much like that administered to Lost Temple which resulted in the creation of Shattered Temple. In the meantime, we hope that you enjoy the fresh maps that have been added to the ladder pool in Season 3.

Thank God I get all my vetoes back, looks like they were listening about DQ, Slag and Scrap. We'll see how the new maps form up but for now my vetoes are going to Typhon and Backwater.

Hate to say it, but Blizzard is right. Metal is a zerg favored map as long as it's not close spawn position, and a zerg disfavored map if it's close position. This makes it not a good map.

I'm glad that Blizzard came out and explained why they took out Metalopolis. It can be easily fixed by implementing no close spawns, but I also think that taking out a map that's been there since Beta is valid.

I've hated cross positions Taldarim and all metalopolis positions in TvZ for a while now, but I feel like Scrap Station is Terran favoured big time if the Terran can survive Zerg 2 base all ins.

Metalopolis, now with rocks at the bottom of your ramp.
