Guys, they want to become the premier starleague for starcraft so in order to compete with GSL, OSL, MSL, they have introduced a team limit just like those other highly regarded starleagues..............wait

Regarding caster dress and styles, I'm sure we'll move toward a more formalized dress as we proceed. I'm not saying suit-and-tie because that's not our demographic, but certainly some sort of standard will evolve.
Last time I checked there isn't really much to define our demographic. I might dress a lot better than a highschooler who wears hoodies, but the dress is dictated by how serious you want to be. Korean commentators wear a shirt and tie, there's really no reason to promote t-shirt wearing unless you want to be taken anything other than serious. If you wanna be an amateur or just say its a video game lolol, then never expect things to grow. You're not gonna receive sarcasm for being too professional. The worst that happens is "oh wow that guy dresses really sharp, he exudes a very professional persona, I like the way this is run, even if I dress more casually while viewing this event, I feel like they really want this to be big time." So I guess I would ask is true, real world professionalism going to be prevalent or is it going to be the pseudo-professionalism where it defaults back to being a "video game" so its ok justification?
Really good feedback, though I do think suits and ties are a bit much for this today.

How will the 15 spots in the league be filled? Will those be 15 more invites judged by previous accomplishments and their application video? Will the winner of the open get a spot in the league? I think the winner of the open they said was going to get the 16th spot in the final live tournament automatically, and any other participitation in this league is invite-only at least for season 1. This leads me to another question (sorta repeat but couldnt find an answer) Will the NASL always be invite-only except for 1 open tourney per season? You seem to have repeated what I wrote, and then asked the same thing :p
=P I didn't realize sorry, But I see that I essentially put your questions into one. But I at least answered your last question I think.

I too am curious about the team limits and team requirement. As for the requirement of people being on a team, you stated this was to ensure the individual fulfills his role as player and doesnt bail out or anything. If there is enough interest, would you consider revising this rule and seeking another means to ensuring the players show up? It seems like there must be some alternative.
And Ill simply agree with DaBears, if this is a individual league, there is no need to have limits based on teams. Lets say this does create a boom in SC2 esports in the US/West. Sponsored teams could easily exceed 5 skilled players, basically every pro team in Korea has more than 5 players.

Are you actually listening to feedback because I can give you a laundry list of things to improve on now or before the 2nd season if you want this to actually succeed but it seems like most of the NASL people are too busy being defensive to listen to actual constructive criticism. Post the list please. 1) Stop talking until you put Xeris, Incontrol, and Russel in the same room.
These three guys keep contradicting each other so much it is stupid. The amount of contrary information out there from these sources including between the State of the Game podcast (<3 JP) and the official thread is alarming. This alone takes away a lot of confidence from many people in the validity of your league.
2) Change this:
The quality of GSL's high quality paid stream is 650 kb/sec. Our free stream is going to be at 800 kb/sec, our paid stream will be 3 megabit / sec. We're offering much better stream quality than any other tournament can give you!
Having the paid stream be only a 3 megabit stream means the vast majority of EU viewers wont be able to watch it seeing as it is also on JTV. If you set your stream bitrate too high all you are doing is limiting the number of viewers who can watch you. The EU market still has a hard time watching on JTV especially on the higher quality higher bitrate streams. Even though JTV provides quality scaling having the 3mbit as your base is not a good idea if you're going to go that high provide a second high quality stream option as well. This will also allow for a backup stream in case the primary one has any issues.
3) Stop responding sarcastically to money questions
Replies like "We're sponsored by pennies we picked up in the various ponds and fountains around the world. The money is there and ready to be given out to some amazing players!" come off as amazingly unprofessional.
Instead try saying that the sponsors for this amazing league are still working with us and do not wish to be named at the current time. None the less I'm sure you will be excited once we are able to name them as they are some big companies in their industry. This simple change in attitude gives a lot of confidence to your readers because it is much more professional.
GSL didn't name their sponsors straight off the bat either but they also did not respond sarcastically to every question about it. In short be professional responding sarcastically again only turns people off and brings into question the validity of your league.
4) Be open with your league format
There is a lot of criticism about your league format and you've yet to say that you're even willing to change it for the next season. Instead of defending your format to the death why not say that you're willing to look into improving the format as much as possible in season 2 and in the time in between. Once again just saying you are willing to do it gives much more confidence than the three of you lined up on the streets weapons drawn and saying NO WE LOVE OUR FORMAT!
One major factor is find a way to include more open slots as more open qualification means less of a big deal about needing to be on a team and the team limits. As if you're good enough you can make it through on the open slots when there's more than just one then not having a team isn't as big of a deal. Yes they'd prefer to be invited in almost every instance but having every player who can't make it in through an invite competing over one open slot is kind of silly
In conclusion I don't want to see your tournament fail as generally when a major tournament fails it turns off potential sponsors for everyone. So please look into upping your level of professionalism when you speak to the community. Currently your attitude towards PR seems to include way too much sarcasm and saying that we thought it was a good idea.

How can the average person help? It seems as far as I can tell, this is a 3 man show (with investors behind the scenes). It's more like 10-15 people plus some volunteers. At any given time when I walk into the NASL.tv offices there's about 7-10 people there with another few filing in and out as the day progresses. Obviously as we get closer to the start of the first season that will grow, and as we grow that number will grow. As for help, I've got a group of intern candidates that I need to filter through and knock it down to about half a dozen to do things like handle social media (FB/TW) write articles for each day's division matches, moderate chat channels, etc. I'm very tardy in getting this done, but I am making progress and should have it whittled down to 6-7 people before the season starts in April. I'm not going to use this as a recruitment post as it violates TL.net policies, but that's the answer to your question. Where are the NASL.tv offices? Who are these 7-10 people and what are their backgrounds specifically with Starcraft?
The NASL.tv offices are in Southern California, but I'm not going to elaborate on that just yet.
I figured you'd want to drill down to the "who is in our crew" question but I don't think it's appropriate yet to give you bios on our entire staff. That day will come, but it's a bit early yet.
Again, great questions Chill, keep 'em coming. I can't promise answers to all of them, in fact I promise that some won't be answered yet, but I'll do my best.

People are being hypercritical because they want the NASL to do well. It would be good to take some of the responses and seriously consider them! We all have the same goal for esports in the US/West.

Something that bothers me...is the fact that starcraft has always felt like a game where, if you had the skill and the determination , you could eventually see yourself performing well in tournaments, qualifiers etc, you could get your name out there and people would start realizing who you were while you built up your reputation until eventually- you go pro. Now, with this, I can feel the elitism of the pros shining through. I've always had so much respect for incontrol, idra etc....but recently it has started to dwindle. It's not about having thick skin, it's not about being overly sensitive, it's about giving off an image for EG. You guys do NOT give your team a good image. When I think of EG, I think of the 2 biggest crybabies in star2 right now (and then in the back of my head i slowly start to remember machine, axslav etc). And then we have JP jumping on with them insulting HuK all the time showing no respect for fellow competitors, while incontrol sat there bashing his overuse of forcefields, meanwhile you watch his stream and he's not half as good...
Basically, my point is this. I was hyped for NASL. I really was. It seemed like one of the greatest things to happen to Starcraft. But the more I hear about it, the less interest I have. They're trying to get this to be like a real sport? So people will take it seriously? Nobody. Ever. Will. We are nerds. People that aren't nerds DO NOT like starcraft. It's sad to say, but it's true. I don't feel like you guys are doing this to fuel the movement of esports in the west. I feel like you're doing it to secure a few extra bucks in your pocket and to secure your "spot"(which you all feel entitled to for some reason) as a pro-gamer. The whole "hey guys help us make esports big if you dont want nasl to be big obviously you're a bad person just be happy who cares if we're charging $30, who cares if qualifiers aren't open for everyone, blahblahblah"

What defines a starcraft 'team' to you guys?
Surely I could just create my own team and add myself to it in order to compete? What is to stop people doing this?

They posted on a previous page that they want a team with a website and sponsors. Of course, anyone can make a website and your mom can be your sponsor. I dont know if there are more details than that, answers arent being consolidated (due to volume) so Im not sure.

I think they should and incontrol really needs a NASL one and an EG one.
That way when he feels the need to be who he is, he can post under the EG banner and when he's being professional and responsible and answering a question for NASL, he can use that banner.
Question
Do you feel that you guys are too close to the situation and emotionally invested to handle the whining an criticism that you have received? I'm pretty sure you guys thought you would be welcomed into Baghdad with open arms(failed Iraq war reference there), however, you have stolen the thunder of a lot of wannabes and therefore have been met with many shoes being thrown at you(another Iraq reference).
P.R. person is needed to handle this initial shit-storm and then you guys need to speak with one voice.

oh true the answer to that is simply yes i think, iNcontrol said something about seeding from s1 to season 2 and I would assume all who make it to the playoffs will be guaranteed a seed in s2. sorry for the confusion.
edit: new concern
OCsurfeR if you know alot of information about NASL, please address the questions/issues posted by other members of TL. I would like to know how well NASL will represent the top 50 players in the world if you keep your current restrictions on qualifications of the NASL. I guess I just need a simple explanation on why you guys restrict the things you do, and in your opinion how does this effect NASL trying to represent the top 50 players in the world. I will be waiting on a response, thanks.

Question:
How are the divisions going to be formed? Is it going to be random, or like the GSL Group Selection where the highest seeds (maybe determined initially by votes on the website) select their groups and an opponent?

I'm back bitch. Deal with it.
Anyways, I truly do think they are too close to the situation to handle the criticism well and respond to it in a professional way. I'm sure they've been working on this for quite some time(6 months maybe longer) and when you have that much effort invested into something and you think you've done a great job...... to have so many people shit on it has to be downright infuriating.
