I know you cannot be promoted/demoted during this stage, but what happens once the new season starts? How is your previous ranking transfered over? Say I reach #1 of my division during the lockout/my MMR gets really high - will I be promoted immediately next season? Yes. Your MMR continues to change with each game.

That part makes no sense. His curve would get wider because he lost to someone who is lower than him. If it got smaller, that would mean that his results are now, on average, more predictable, which they aren't. What would get smaller is the nonexistent "predictability" curve on a predictability graph. Since he's now more predictably unpredictable, the curve on his predictability graph would become more narrow further to the right (which is more unpredictable).

I think I saw you post in the thread that really discusses it but I wouldn't think you would post anything here until you were 100% sure :D I don't think I'm gonna post that here because a) the designer said that it's not a bug so it's moot, b) it's a temporary anomaly that's only going to last for 3 more days, and c) we still don't know the underlying cause. All we have are some theories surrounding it but nothing concrete. We do know that high Master league has their points trending downward as a result of some change in the patch, but this shouldn't be a disincentive to ladder because your MMR gains will still be the same, meaning it shouldn't affect your eligibility to get into GM League. The only thing this would affect is if they do a final Top 200 list on Monday, because that would probably show whoever deliberately stopped laddering at the top of that list.

GM requirements are just the same as any other league (MMR moving average) but with the added caveat that you have to have less than 180 bonus pool to get in. Considering everyone will go down to 0 bonus pool on Tuesday anyway, that's going to translate to winning at least one game (since GM opens after 2 weeks which is equal to 180 bonus pool).

Also, do you have any expectations or predictions of changes to the ladder system? For example I'm curious if they'd keep using tiers in diamond, or if they plan to add tiers to masters, etc.

Also, do you have any expectations or predictions of changes to the ladder system? For example I'm curious if they'd keep using tiers in diamond, or if they plan to add tiers to masters, etc. If some people could keep track of their adjusted points before match, points gain/lost (ignoring how much bonus points they got) AND adjusted points of the opponent before match and points gain/lost (again without bonus pool), like I was doing here (also with league and divisions and server >.>): https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AoPq9zdgd7owdFFUZFIyNmtlVXJxWEtmQ1ZlSEZWeEE&hl=en&authkey=CODQx50L (starting from seasion 2, March 29th) This could be so helpfull, we need data from all levels, so it doesn't matter you're a silver/gold/diamond. If you don't know what adjusted points are or how to calculate everything right you can ask us and we'll glad try to explain if you're indeed willing to write down your data for us :D But it would be best to move to this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=169830 Thank you

I think that concept is implied by the discussion about what happens if low leagues quit en masse but it's not explicitly stated.

I'd consider explicitly stating that the system dynamically distributes the population of active players across a constant range of MMR values, and that league boundaries are fixed in relation to MMR. As players drop out and the remaining population redistribute themselves across the MMR range by playing games, the leagues of existing players may change as their MMRs change. I think that concept is implied by the discussion about what happens if low leagues quit en masse but it's not explicitly stated. That says it a lot better than I did in my revision. I'm just gonna steal most of that if you don't mind, it's a great point =)
