Looks awesome, but this line irked me a little.
But, we're going to do the best with what we have, and the idea is to crown a world champion. To find the best player in the whole world, and to the best of our abilities we're going to do that.

It's a North American tournament, not a world tournament. Sure there will be a few people flying in from Europe, Korea and possibly smaller locations like South America/SEA, but people in other countries are going to find it difficult to drop their lives and fly to the US to play in the finals. When you're saying things like "We're going to limit the number of Koreans to 5", you can't then say you're determining the greatest player in the world.
What I'd love to see is something like this in each region. Then at the end of every year have a showdown between the best of NASL, the best of GSL etc.

Looking like they need like 7-8k subscribers to make it barely profitable.

With 20k people tuning in to the showmatch live, I don't think that's a crazy # to reach.

Looking at the FAQ's this looks really cool and I'm super excited to start watching it, but I gotta say that all the repetitive hype totally ruined the surprise element they were trying to generate. When the video came on, all I could think was "Okay, finally....we get to here the here iNcontroL shut up about his announcement." And in the end I was just kind of "meh" when I saw it.

I know that hype is just all part of marketing, but constantly getting hearing reminders on SoTG, other Podcasts, on TL, etc. of "an announcement that will be announcing an announcement revealing the big announcement" was seriously getting annoying. Not trying to be cynical here, I just think there are more creative ways to market things, create hype, and still be secretive...Look at the way the market movies nowadays like Cloverfield or District 9....

Most of the money will be coming from sponsors' advertising, not subscribers.

Um... have you thought about sponsors?? You know, companies willing to part with money in exchance for name recognition?

I dont think Incontrol and Gretorp will need that much money for casting, considering they both have part-time jobs. (At least Incontrol, not sure about Gretorp anymore).

Plus, we're not dealing with zero-sum, we're dealing with an investment with a multiplier effect.

Not to mention the ad revenue generated everyday and the maybe more direct sponsor interest in the grand finals event. I bet they'll do alright. Gom sees at least 30,000 or more subscribers for a season right?

Sounds exciting, but in both size and professionalism it has a way to go before it gets to the level of ESL, not to speak of GSL. Good luck!

You forget advertising, which is where all the real money comes from. Companies don't sponsor tournaments because they are passionate about e-sports, you know...

About the koreans......

So, GoM SEEDS players into Code A and this is what we do? Seems a little unfair

well the players still do have to fly to Korea to participate right? so essentially its the same thing. Koreans can participate, but to do so they have to fly to NA, and for the qualifiers play it at local NA timing... Dont see how this is unfair?

Incontrol - are you actually taking the 50 people with the most votes to the tournament? That's a bit... unfair.

Okay?

I'm saying that they will easily make it profitable if it costs somewhere around what darmousseh predicted.

3 for MC, 3 for Nestea, 3 for MvP, 1 for MKP.

A great league must have the best players, or what is the point. There should be a lot of effort to try and fit top korean players.

that is assuming they got no sponsorship and no advertisements.
i would be really suprised if free stream will be ad-free.
i won't mid any ads if those guys are bringing me 9 weeks of non stop starcraft 2 action five days a week.
i will probably subscribe tho.

I will definately watch both GSL and NASL, and even if necesarly for support, I'll watch NASL instead of GSL. Its time to make eSports grow to the skys and be head to head with the most viewed sports, this is our generation!!
