The chat channels are there, but if you try to join one then you get an error "the system is currently not able to service channels" so they're not working right now. I figure all the chat servers will get activated tomorrow when Blizzard USA wakes up.

Just wait until a bunch of people get into master's league and then see if matchmaking puts you up against any of them. That'll be a pretty clear sign of promotion or not.

I think the top 5% is actually less than that. I am 2628 and sc2ranks.com has me in the top 3.70% in the NA region. Oh yeah, oops, the rank # and the score points were so close I got them mixed up a bit ![]() The exact 5% for NA would be on page 27.55, which is about 2550 points. Wow, didn't realize the points are so close after 2500 ish! on page 20 the players are till at 2630 or so. Btw, I see you Charger :D page 21 lol

You could be 2700 points but low enough MMR to not get promoted. EDIT: In general though, you are right -- you do have to be somewhere in the general area of 2500 points

I guess a lower pt player could certainly get in while I don't if his MMR is high and mine is low. Whatever, guess we'll all find out soon ![]()

I just wonder how many hard core SC2 gamers we lost out on because they felt alone on battle.net pre-chat channels.

Remember most Diamond players are under 1k, cus a lot of ppl are good but just don't have the time to play so many matches xD That's only 700 people, though, out of almost 2 million.-- and 0.1 percent of the NA server

I think your calculations are wrong, there will be about 2050 people out of 670k (NA server) @jnkw Keep in mind promotion is based on MMR, not points. I was thinking at first it was showing Bronze instead of Masters since sc2ranks didn't get updated yet, but this is on the NA server, and the patch didn't come up for NA yet o.o

Sure, chat channels weren't there at launch, but hopefully the SC2 community can really grow now that people can talk to strangers and make new friends. I just wonder how many hard core SC2 gamers we lost out on because they felt alone on battle.net pre-chat channels. I'm definitely one of them. I stopped playing sc2 2-3 months ago due to the fact that I could only play against people on ladder and basically there is no interaction between friends at all . Everytime you want to start talking to your friends you'll have to invite 1 by 1 of them to the party and it will only work provided that they're around and accept your invitation. It's pure BOREDOM

I went to sc2ranks.com and counted all the people that were 2600+ Diamond. 700 and something. Unless if I said incorrectly, 2600+ is not top 5%. Also, idk if something's wrong, when I go there and check the 701st rank, it's 2888 points... 5% of Diamond is 0.05 * 551 pages of players * 100 players per page = 2755 players in Masters (oops idk how i got 2050 lol). Promotion is not based on points, but on MMR (matchmaking rating). So what matters is the amount of players in diamond and % of them. If it's top 5% of diamond league then there will be around 6700 master leaguers worldwide. I'm pretty sure he [and I] know, but generally, if you're facing 2550s, then you should be on the borderline of Masters (probably a bit below actually due to the way inflation works; points will be higher than they should be but points won't be lower than they should be). Of course it's not the points, but if you've exhausted your bonus pool and are being matched around there then it's a decent indicator of your skill.

* GENERAL o Players can no longer block off ramps with two 2x2 buildings. This includes bunkers, right?

I don't THINK so. I believe that's pylons, supply depots, spine crawler maybe? I think a bunker is bigger than 2x2. Someone please correct me if I am incorrect.
