On the MLG live on 3 Stream, iNcontrol stated that he will be going to Korea to compete in GSL 3.

The scene of the announcement! From left to right: djWHEAT, iNcontrol, Inka, Sir Scoots the owner of EG (?)

I love iNcontrol to death, both as a player and person, but does he really stand a chance at even qualifying? Or perhaps is he just going there for kicks?

Or maybe, just maybe he is trolling us all very hard. Alternatively, he may be very drunk.

On a serious note, iNcontrol fighting! I'll wake up at 4 AM just for you <3

He's literally going to beat up the Koreans. Literally.

On a more serious note he might make the Ro64, there's been some pretty poor play in that round in the 1st 2 GSLs and inc isn't TERRIBLE.

well he's never going to know if he doesn't try. Really he is better than some of the RO64 people, so you never know what's going to happen.

iNcontrol is a really talented player, and in that training environment, I think he could perform really well.

Hope he does well, as the more foreigners in GSL 3 the better, but I'm a little shaky on whether or not he can make it. Good luck iNcontrol ^^

I think anybody can make it far at gsl. Look at foxer, brand new player makes it all the way to grand finals. Anybody can go far with the right drive and practice. The more non-koreans at gsl the better. Hopefully someday gsl won't only be in korea so NA/EU people don't have to hide behind a huge travel budget.

There is nothing I want to see more than for Incontrol to qualify and to see his hulk form in a GSL booth scaring Korean children.

Do you think this means he'll stop coaching? If he stops coaching and practices full time he might have a good shot at qualifying.

ROFL

I posted this in the SOTG thread.

I remember that one podcast where iNcontroL commented that if he does qualify and performs well in a GSL, he wants to break the stereotypical Korean/Asian answers to interviews. If they ask him what he will do with the money he responded "airplanes and cars". And if the interviewer ask what about his parents, iNcontroL replied, "Oh, they have their own money". LOOOL

Kiwikaki at GSL 3 qualifiers? Sick. I'm guessing he must have saved up a good amount of money since Root-Gaming doesn't have big name sponsors like other teams.

Oh joy, another foreigner not to qualify. Not trying to insult Incontrol, but I've yet to be impressed with his game sense or his mechanics or his strategies. The only thing I like about the guy is his humor.

I never really was a fan of Incontrol in BW because it was just better to watch pro Koreans with my time instead, but I'll be rooting for him in the GSL simply because he's a foreigner. GL Incontrol!

Incontrol been doing pretty well at MLG for what its worth. He has gone pretty far in the losers bracket in each of the tournments. If he gets a easy bracket, or steps his game up a bit. Seeing him in the RO64 does not seem out of reach.

TLO back to Europe, Early Nov 2010

Liquid is happy to announce that starting this month their European lineup will once again boast the presence of Dario "TLO" Wunsch. TLO will leave for Germany after returning to Korea from MLG Dallas and from his home town of Leipzig will represent Liquid at both continental and international events. Although a move that may come as a surprise to many, TLO's change of residence is a personal decision and one that the team stands behind.

It seems reasonable so that they can feel out the scene with InControl, see what the conditions are like, etc.

Incontrol is a great replacement for TLO as one of my favourite foreign player personalities. I will definitely wake up early to watch all his games. And definitely get a HD pass to watch all the games that I can't in VOD's if 4 or more foreigners qualify.

no offense, but why does eg enjoy wasting money?

Um, EG wasting money? If their sponsors are willing to support the team, then why not fly them out to Korea to compete? If they had no intention of competing at all, then they should have closed the team as a whole.

I honestly don't think incontrol is good enough currently to go deep into GSL. But I think he has every right to go after his dreams. These early GSLs are specifically designed for that purpose.

Unfortunately the korean scene isn't very forgiving to protoss.

I have to disagree.

Being in the Korean programing environment can really improve a player, TREMENDOUSLY. Just look at how Jinro improved.

And look how he didn't qualify three times. XD
Still, it'll certainly improve his play, but flying there then competing in a tournament shortly thereafter does not a top player make.

Yea jinro improved relative to what standards though? He still hasn't qualified for GSL, I certainly feel he is capable of doing so if he gets the right brackets and such, but he is also a terran player.

As I said before the korean scene isn't very forgiving to PROTOSS, they tend to struggle in GSL, and have had diminishing representation in the later rounds.

If Tester, Genius, Sangho, oGsInca have trouble, how do you think it's going to be for a player like incontrol?

iNcontrol will probably not go far his first GSL event but I think he definitely has the potential to kick some shit in. His Protoss play has been constantly evolving and changing, and he will finally be away from all the distractions that he has to play around for better or for worse. He has a girlfriend and he has his coaching plus his weightlifting (idk how active he is in that) as well as mods on TL. You can't act like that doesn't really cut into a lot of his practice time.

Conclusion: I wanna see a TLO sized iNcontrol when he comes back from Korea. He should be practicing THAT much SCII

I'd like to argue that there just aren't any good Protoss/the good ones have tough brackets. The top three had really tough brackets( Tester, ogsMC, and that guy who won Blizzcon who's name I forgot), all lost relatively quickly with Tester not eve qualifying.

Why are people even predicting if anyone can qualify as the current GSL setup qualification is about 90% luck of who is in your bracket and the rest is enough skill to make it through. I mean anyone on that list can qualify if they get a good enough bracket and the opposite is true. Any one of those people could easily wind up in a bracket of death and get knocked out by someone like Foxer Clide Rainbow....

People can look for any type of argument they want, but the bottom line is in s1 there were 3 protoss in the ro8, zero advanced. In s2 there were 3 protoss in the ro16, 1 advanced to the ro8, and then did not advance any further.

It's ok to see if people got unlucky or had bad showings or what not, but you shouldn't disregard the fact that the koreans may just be better at dealing with protoss and exploiting whatever weaknesses it may have.

Totally. But I think Protoss is also one of the most closed off races. You rarely see deviance from gateway units>Robo units> Templar units. So dealing with them becomes significantly easier as you can effectively blind counter them.

Would seeding matter? All the new foreigners would be unseeded and face against seeded people anyway.

That would mean that we wouldn't need GSL and would have a pro-scene of our own...which judging by the increasing interest in e-sport in the west may not be as far as some people think.

Qualifying for GSL is so luck-based.

Single Elimination Best of threes tell you next to nothing about player skill (See: Fruitdealer vs FoxeR and IdrA vs LotzePrime and Tester and Julyzerg losing in qualifiers).

100% agree. And Fruitdealer, Foxer, Clide, Rainbow, and Tester could all end up in the same bracket, giving a lot of other people 'free' tickets into the tournament.

Stop predicting who will and won't make GSL.

The entire point of these first 3 seasons is to create the seeds for the real tournament that hasn't happened yet. Anyone who makes it to the round of 8 each season is seeded for the big tournament.

I think the only thing separating Koreans from foreigners in SC2 is the amount of time they each put into the game, and how much the team concept really means for Koreans. If he can go there and work his fucking ass off, I think he can qualify. Look at Jinro. Prior to this MLG people thought he was just a chump compared to people like Idra. Give him the standard Korean practice regiment and he comes to the US and rips things up.

TLDR: Fuck the naysayers. Geoff, work your ass off and get shit done man.
On my way...

I thought KiWi did pretty good for himself? Didn't he buy into the last WSOP? That costs $10k.

I missed the video, but I think if Geoff can spend more time playing and less time coaching, I think it'll help his game. I'm very confused because he just started having the gosucoaching coach's corner, and seems to be increasing his responsibilities as a coach. I wonder if this was planned for awhile or an offer that was extended during the tournament.

Pretty sure Kiwikaki won't be having any money troubles anytime soon unless he suddenly decides he needs all his things coated in platinum.

This is pretty awesome news, the more foreigners we can get to GSL3 the better. The more quality players that show up to the event, the better the chances that we can get more qualified.

Unfortunately though, because of the way the qualifiers work (ie: a lottery), you can get an easy bracket all the way through or you could meet Foxer in the first round =/

My ultimate dream would be for a Foreigner Protoss to go stomping in the GSL. And there's a chance! HuK, Kiwikaki, now Incontrol... someone survive past Ro64, PLEASE! That would be awesomz.

The more foreigners, the rougher it's gonna get for most of them. I don't see more than 4 or 5 (including the Chinese and Sen) qualifying for the R064. It has to be rough moving to Korea to be a b-teamer when you're used to being a minor celebrity back in your home country.
Harsh but true. Jinro didn't do too bad at the MLG but atm he's a b-teamer in Korea and has yet to qualify for the GSL...

Jinro was on the a-team until before the patch, he's since been demoted to the b-team. Jinro said as much during an interview at the MLG.

I think everyone is making a grave error if they think someone like Incontrol can't qualify for GSL. The qualification system is vulnerable to wild bracket mishaps--TESTER DIDN'T QUALIFY?! WHAT?!

Consider how terrible some of the ro64 games were in both seasons, I think Incontrol has a fantastic chance at qualifying, and CERTAINLY of becoming a much better player regardless.

no offense, but why does eg enjoy wasting money?

Didn't you understand from that interview, sounds like Geoff is going out of his own pocket this time. If EG wanted to send the team, they'd probably send Axslav, Machine, LZ as well. And by the way that scoots seemed to be responding to geoff it seemed like they were obviously going to help him have a place to stay (tasteless/idra) but I don't think this is out of EG's money.

Not to mention EG is insanely rich, they're like the 2nd richest foreign esports team, if sponsors are willing to drop the bucks why not expand.

My opinion is iNcontroL will have a tough time making it out of his GSL qualifier bracket if he gets anyone average or good. EG players have had tough times making it out of 128, 256, 512 man tournaments that are mostly full of average to bad players, and if he's thrown into GSL where he doesn't know ANY opponents, let alone if they're good or bad, or what their playstyles are or builds, I just find it very hard to see him in RO64 without a cake bracket.

I thought KiWi did pretty good for himself? Didn't he buy into the last WSOP? That costs $10k.

Yeah its pretty well known kiwi is well off from poker, but I didn't know he bought into WSOP or was announced to go to gsl, where is th eofficial announcement? I think he has a chance at RO64.

Once again, I don't think EG is sending incontrol here, by the way he worded the statement, i think he said "eg plans on doing it later, but i thought why not go check it out for myself first"

seems to me like he's been saving up, and is going out of pocket for the flight.

The GSL brackets may not be ideal, but tester didn't qualify because he messed up himself, not because of unfair brackets.

Like IdrA said, it all depends on the bracket... if he plays NaDa or BoxeR (or the fake BoxeR) or FruitDealer or any of the other ro32 or better Koreans I don't think he would make it, but who knows. The rate of improvement of the Koreans is amazing... let's not forget that NesTea had only been playing for like 2 weeks at GSL1 and now, a scant few weeks later, has gone on to be undefeated and win the whole thing.

I agree, Lz's macro hits more road bumps than any other EG player, that said he is smart about creative builds and smart adapting, and his 3rd place finish at the vT open is more than any other EG player can put their hands on except Axslav who got 1st place in that same open (Socke got 2nd place), or Machine who got 6th plcae at MLG today and got top 4 at one of the ESL qualifiers obviously.

iNcontroL hasn't really done any tournaments at all, which is probably out of his own option, but just from watching in-house practices, Axslav and Lz are definitely the two strongest, prior to the most recent patch. Where Strifecro and Machine started doing better (albeit they don't play as many in-houses as they used to).

The qualifier for GSL2 was much harder than GSL1, and it is expected that the overall player skill level in GSL3 prelims will have jumped even higher this time than it did between 1/2.

Good luck to incontrol regardless.

No doubt... I would love to see some non Koreans regularly placing on the top 8 but, overall, the Koreans have been pulling ahead since GSL 1 ended. Team houses and structured practice sessions with veteran coaching go a long way.

I agree with most of what has been said here, and that's "Good luck! You're going to need it..."

I think to do decently in GSL 3, you're going to need to be either extremely, extremely lucky, or be something special of a player. iNcontrol is a pro, and a very good player...but as far as elite SC2 goes, I don't think he's strong enough.

As Idra said in the last sotg it is heavily luck dependand if someone qualifies or not. He said himself that ge got easy qualifier brackets so far but If you have top players in those allready then you will have a tough time.

Just take a look at Jinro who didnt qualify 2 times. Hes said to be a monster in practice with a remarkable variety in his gameplay. Or Tester, who is one of the most solid macro Protosses and did exceptional in gsl 1, but didnt qualify for gsl 2. There is actually a huge list of very good players (TOP etc etc) that didnt qualify.

But I think he has a good chance if he can adapt to the korean style progaming environment.

What seems to be a reasonable prediction should be to have a list of GSL1 and 2 ro64 participants. What I remember is that less than half were able to qualify for GSL2. So we might even see a few of gsl 1 and 2 make it to the next gsl.

It's a very good environment and experience regardless of qualifications, at least it seems that way from what I can tell. If I had the chance to go to Korea and play I would do it just for the experience and I am by no means half as good as iNcontrol.

I would love to see him do well, but hope he has a great time either way ^^,

I have no doubt he wont make it through the prelims.

But I think he has a good chance if he can adapt to the korean style progaming environment.

I hope for InControl's sake he says out there for a couple of seasons. If he doesn't qualify in his first season there's no reason to pack it, cause like you said it's partially based on the the luck of the draw.

Glad to see more foreigners goto the gsl. Incontrol hasn't achieved anything notable in the international scene so logically speaking i don't really think he will have what it takes for korea ;/
Good luck tho

I hope he stays and does well also, although it's yet to be seen in 2011 if the same open format will still be as active in every tournament. I think maybe only a few will be open tournaments, but not sure.

Awesome to see foreigners do well though always.

why the doubters? players like tlo and idra have played in the gsl and had some success yet lose to players in mlg consistently. what makes it so different? stop being so racist by saying whites cant play sc2. its sickening.

Congrats and best of luck in your future GSL qualifications. I really enjoy Incontrol's sense of humor and insight in the SotG podcast. Maybe his moving over could be signaling the start of the Evil Geniuses Team House in Korea that Tasteless was talking about.

Good Luck to incontrol, i hope Nony makes the trip out to as well. Team liquid has some strong partners in OGs

What about the TLO news i was somewhat hearing about. Not going to say what because it mightve been a troll chat rumor.
I asked my friend how the ratio at a party was, he replied. "Let's just say for every guy there was two dudes."

Nony is married and won't be leaving the US for month long tourneys. TLO is returning to Germany to be with friends and family and represent TL in Europe.

Isn't Select korean but studying in the US? So that still makes him Korean or am I wrong?
But still nice that we have so many known players trying to qualify for the GSL.
But even if they qualify it'll be very hard for them to get ro8 and get S code. Only Idra if he manages to qualify again would have the highest chance of obtaining S code. Anyone else that qualifies is probably going to be A code.

That's awesome news.

The more foreigners that play the better. In fact, I REALLY want a foreigner to win GSL. I think if the foreign presence in Korean tournaments is high, then maybe Korean players will feel more apt to come play in American/European tournaments.

My best words of advice for iNcontroL, if you start to lose to an Asian player just say this, "No one's gunna fuck on you. We're on your side. I hate Godzilla, I hate him too, I hate him, he destroys cities!" Then proceed to get them some pants.

Im all for supporting western players in Korea, so I really hope he will do well

However, I feel that the best hopes for foreigners lie in the people consistently coming top 8 in our tornaments - and he isnt quite there yet based on his actual results.

Still, if he puts in the practice and obviously has great experience of LAN environments I see no reason he cannot become good enough to at least qualify. He does need to improve a fair bit, I feel, having watched the replays of MLg events I dont think you can say he was unlucky or cheated to not finish higher there.

But regardless of that, so what..... All props to him and EG for getting players out there...it is their money and his time/life, and they already have IdrA out there, so its not like he is depriving any better players the chance of entering - therefore all the best luck!

Doubt he can get past RO64 in his current shape. Alot can happen with a few months in Korea if he manages to get similar training conditions to TeamLiquid if he gets alot of volume in. GL

Someone tell me how many GSL's there are in a year?

I hope he was just trolling , or he was really drunk or something.
It's good to see more and more foreigners going to Korea.
But he'll really need a really really lucky bracket to qualify.
I'd suppose Idra having some teammates to practice with in Korea is a good thing tho.

GSL3 will be the last for 2010. Then the 'real' tournament start with S class / A Class players etc. Don't think they have announced the exact format for 2011 yet.

Isn't the GSL format changing for the next year, with GSL "3" being the last pre-league open tournament?

I think in 2011 there will be 4 "gsl's" but a best of ladder world tournament and some other ones equalling out to a tourney per month. And think A class will compete with qualifying players for a rank spot and S competes with A to keep their spot. There's a thread somewhere with all the info

Any experienced and skilled ex bw top foreigner should give it a serious shot.

You all understimate also the fear factor that carries playing against a foreigner for a very young Korean player.

Keep in mind, the characteristics of starcraft 2 really plays in favor to InC's play style, particularly in a series of games.

For me any news of more non-korean players heading to Seol to try their luck at the offline qualifiers are always good news.

Making GSL stand for its name and make it as "Global" as possible will make it spread its horizons towards different types of viewers. Having more North American players showing up there reeforcing the group that already tried GSL 1 and GSL 2 will be good for us all, non-Koreans, aswell as for the Korean fans that always had a thing for those so called "exoctic" players playing there.

Goos luck for iNcontrol and all the others attempting to get into the RO64 for GSL 3

incontrol is one of the most underestimated players imo. I honestly think that if he trains right he has a definite chance at one of those S-class spots. Will be rootin for him !
I figured out the EG Curse. It was set in motion by Voodoo Shamans working for Millenium. Whenever EG aquires a player, Voodoo energies start slowly draining skill from the EG guy into an Millenium newcomer. Think about it!

You guys are hilarious sometimes at how you determine who is a "good player" based on if they qualified or not. You guys do know that some guy named Tester, who's a pretty good protoss, didn't qualify for GSL2 right? Does that make him a bad player as well?

A month-long tournament. That's a long vacation.

Anyway, this isn't speculation. He said more or less this on Lo3: that if he were single and entirely unattached to anything and anyone in the US, he'd probably go; that he's not in that situation; and that he's happy with the life and family he has right now, which are more important to him than playing in the GSL.

No, you're getting confused. They're not judging how good a player is by how well he does in GSL prelims. They're judging how well a player will do in prelims by how good they think he is. Not saying I agree with them, but that's what they're doing.

I'm not a big fan of iNcontrol but, he can only be successful going to Korea and trying since that's what he really wants to do.

If he fails, he should be proud that he had the guts to go there and following his dreams, which is more than you can say about alot of people.

I don't know about this.

I like iNcontroL as much as the next guy, but without a top 10 in any MLG, I don't know how successful he's going to be over in Korea. IdrA said it best I think when he mentioned how the practice mentality is different for Koreans and foreigners. The Koreans can afford to practice 10 hours a day because Starcraft is literally all they do for a living. The foreigners on the other hand have to work jobs to support themselves meaning that they can only practice for 4-5 hours a day. That's a big disadvantage.

I just wish that players had the ability to "make a living" off of SC2 here in the states and didn't feel the need to go to Korea.

Good luck and good matchups to you Geoff.

How much of a monthly budget(including prize pool) do you think it takes to run a league that could keep 100+ players going full time?

obviously it will really depend on the bracket too get into the round of 64. IdrA commented on how hard some of the brackets are vs others. If he gets to the round of 64 i think that will be a big enough confidence boost for him to perform well. It really depends on his play style. Americans play different then Koreans and that can work for or against him.

Qualifiers = luck

If you look at the Ro64 skill level of GSL, it's not really even as high as the Ro16 of MLG.

Every qualifier has gotten harder so far according to Rekul and I think artosis. So getting into #1 was alot easier then getting into #2 and #3 is probably going to be pretty hard. There will still be some bad games in the RO64 but not as bad as before.

torch qualified.

now, im sure it's harder to qualify now than it was then
but I think it's entirely possible he will make it.

I give him 33% odds. With serious practice, 50-75% odds.

More and more B-teamer level BW players switched and new up and comers willing to play 12 hours a day with just simply more of a work rate than foreigners... i really don't see any except IdrA able to qualify soon depending on how the qualification is set up and you can't just get in by luck. Then after a while IdrA neither.

Actually, I'm going to disagree with that. The only real advantage Koreans had in BW was their training houses where the entire team lives, talks, and breathes SC all day every day. Now that Foreign pro's are starting to gather over in Korea, they'll have the same environment where everyone can grow together. In BW, foreign pro's more or less practiced alone and didn't have much discussion off line.

whether or not he qualifies it doesnt matter

IdrA has said a few times EG are gonna get a house out in korea so people on the team can go there and practice together

maybe he just wants the experience, he doesnt need to break ro64 on his first time

Good luck to incontrol in getting a GSL qualifier bracket that isn't full of DEATHING.

If nothing else, increasing foreigner presence in korea is going to help greatly with the overall foreigner skill level - more communication about strategy, more practice, and more cohesion.

He's a funny and cool guy, but there's no way he will make it far in GSL 3. He's underperformed tremendously in the lesser American tourneys and when put up with players like Tester, Nada, Fruitdealer, etc. he simply cannot compete.

I wouldn't doubt incontrol that much. I mean it really is pretty luck of the draw.

his mechanics are not as good as he might want but he has the potential I think to come out of nowhere and do really good.

If he does make it into the ro64 I think he has a good chance of going to even top 8. It's kind of weird but I think he juggled a lot of activities besides just playing a shit load of SC2 and if he really focuses down on the game (same with a lot of other EG players) he could do really good. EG could really be a powerhouse if they put in more hours and do settup a pro house. Inka, Machine, Incontrol in particular.

Loving everyone judging incontrol.

How about you go watch some of his games before you judge how good he is by results.

He's clearly a very good player right now, judging by his mechanics, gamesense, and build-orders from the last few tourneys, he's played very well, with some minor mistakes, and some bad luck like anyone can get. Better than a lot of the players who showed up in the last two GSL's RO32 I guarantee you.

If you think he has any chance of making it to the top 8 in GSL 3, you haven't been following competitive SC2.

EDIT: If Incontrol makes it to the top 8, Jibba can permanent ban me.

Good thing the chances of him running into all of those guys in one qualifying bracket are pretty slim!

Seriously, it's well within his abilities as a player to qualify for this thing. Do you think every single Ro64 player in each season was flat out better than him? As long as he doesn't get a ridiculous bracket he'll have a decent shot at it. It's not like he's some random guy from the Ro128 at MLG Dallas, he went fairly deep in the tournament, has a lot of LAN experience, and is capable of knocking down top players.

Is it likely that he'll qualify? Not really, but the brackets will play a much larger part than anything else. If he gets matched up against some monster like MVP then what is he gonna do? You can't really say with confidence that any foreign protoss would qualify in a situation like that.

Fairly optimistic if you think there are only ~10 players better than him in all of Korea.

He'd need a pretty good bracket since he will not have played against any of the players he'll face in qualifiers, if theres one player who he doesn't know their playstyle then thats goodbye for the whole situation. Look at the EG clan wars that have been going on recently. Face someone that you don't recognize their playstyle, even if they're "only" 2100 diamond and they will always have a chance at beating you, multiply that by the 6-7 opponents he will have to face, including potentially one previous RO16 or so player and he'd need to really get lucky. But believe it or not, Fruitdealer is NOT the only person in korea better than incontrol.

He has a chance, but things will have to go his way, look at Jinro for example. He didn't even face the top top players, but with just an average bracket he ran into one bad series with a mothership rush that he didn't expect and know how to prepare for.

Everyone will have a chance to qualify but the odds aren't in his favor.

Looking forward to seeing Artosis' pictures of GSL3 qualifiers with rows of nerds hunched over playing SC2 and incontrol towering over them haha.

Best of luck to geoff, and even if he doesn't qualify I'm sure the practice environment will help him out in the long run!

Whether InControl qualifies or not,

I think it's pretty commendable that he's going for it. And it gives him a chance to play on the Korean ladder and experience their style of tournament play.

They're tournaments seem to favour more mindgames, all-in's and high-risk, high-reward play in general. Part of the reason why I think Koreans have a slight edge is that they're not afraid to muck-up the game and win ugly.

The thing I don't like about this argument is that it ignores the fact that no one over there has come up against his play-style either, and while he may be a big enough name stateside that you can prepare something special for him in a clanwar, I doubt any koreans will be downloading incontrol replays. I think it's far more likely that a foreigner will study the korean play-styles before the tournament than it is that koreans will be preparing in case they run across a notable foreigner. I wouldn't say that this dynamic is a big enough advantage that he can ride it to a qualifying spot, but I don't think it will work against him.

I think everyone understands how difficult it will be for him, so when you "contribute" a post that just expresses doubt about his skill level or ability, it kind of just makes you look like a negative and nasty person.

We should all probably try to encourage him if anything. It isn't really difficult to go through this chain of thoughts:

1) do I have something nasty and snarky to say about Incontrol?
--Yes --> walk away from keyboard
--No --> write something nice!

Seriously. What is saying something negative really doing for you. Do you want everyone to know that you have been "following" the SC2 competitive scene, and that you're a super smart SC2 fan who realizes Inc will have a tough time in Korea? Well everyone has a tough time in Korea so you're not really enlightening anyone at all. Go post somewhere where you aren't tearing someone down who has a love for SC2. What happened to this being a 'community'?

It isn't negative though it's just an honest opinion from a lot of people.

1. It lets incontrol know where some perceive his level of skill to be at.

2. It may motivate him to prove all the non-believers wrong.

Defeat generally makes me play better than victory.

This is the first I have heard of this but I think Incontrol is a great player who has been part of the starcraft community for a long time and i hope he preforms well and Quote " Any skilled foreigner going to Korea is a good thing for the E-Sports community." It does nothing but help gain exposure in korea where E-Sports is huge! In Turn people from around the world learn about it and it helps. Any Way GO Incontrol GLGLGL

I hope so, I think the more foriegners we have in Korea the better, even if they don't go super far in GSL it will be mixing SC ideas and leading to a better development of the game.

I don't think the GSL should have to accomodate less talented playes. Clearly koreans are the best in the world and they can aquire way bigger sponsorship there then anywhere else. It would be stupid for the GSL to be anywhere but in Korea.

I guess its cool that he is going over, but I doubt he will even qualify. The skill level between this GSL and season 1 was huge. I imagine for GSL3 it will be even larger. Unless EG is paying for him it would be a large waste of his own money to go to Korea. Stick to what you are mediocre at, NA tournies.

couldn't have put it better myself.

Plus you have to expect a bunch of 2k diamond koreans to join since its local for them. 2k diamonds, korean or not, are not easy by any means. They can micro and macro just as well. Add in a bit of freshy flavour and you may be in for a suprise.

Yeah their real advantage is they play a lot more, and they still will? I'd bet money on liquid people all leaving Korea within a year. Lack of practice, motivation, skills whatever. They can't compete with upcoming kids who are willing to play 12 hours a day in any conditions.

Chinese players i give more chance to. I didn't consider them really in what i was saying. People are just getting over-excited about other countries hopes. Remember there's only 64 slots in the GSL, and there's enough decent players in Korea to fill them all, so its purely luck if anyone else manages to qualify.

If Blizzard truly believed in worldwide eSports they would at least run a GSL style tournament in Europe/NA as well, then have a winners tournament from all 3. But clearly they don't so it won't happen.

leaving thursday with a 1 way ticket

Will train for a few days (qualifier is on monday) with idra/artosis/korean ladder.

If I qualify I will stay until I am eliminated. If I don't qualify I will spend a day or two with my brothers and hang out in SC2 paradise train up a bit and maybe root idra on or w/e.

I am excited to be in a place in my life where this is feasible. I have the means, I have the ability and I am motivated. Whether you think I am skilled enough or not should be irrelevant. A foreigner traveling to korea to try and qualify for a tourney should be a time of celebration and excitement. I could lose or I could win but none of you know any better. So why be negative?

Wish me luck or don't But I am going to have fun and work hard. When EG moves to korea I will have this under my belt to be that much more prepared to turn the Korea experience into something amazing.

So you're just flying out for GSL 3 then? A more permanent stay would presumably hinge on the EG house?

I have to disagree.

Being in the Korean programing environment can really improve a player, TREMENDOUSLY. Just look at how Jinro improved.

And look how he didn't qualify three times. XD
Still, it'll certainly improve his play, but flying there then competing in a tournament shortly thereafter does not a top player make.

Look at his qualifying brackets.

Incontrol,

Are you actually gonna go over there and practice with certain people?
Or are you just staying in a hotel/practing on ladder in a pc-bang or so untill you actually have to play the qualifiers?

And if I have to be honest, I think a lot of it is gonna come down to the brackets, if you get a easier bracket I can see you qualifying, but if you get unlucky and get a bracket with some very good players (like people that have played in the gsl in the past and gotten far) I see it very hard.

Anyway, I really do hope that you qualify, so I wish you best of luck ^^

<3 incontrol, BRING THE PAAAAINNNNN!!!

Btw whats up with all the hate? I looked through the ranks of the ppl trolling, saying he wont get past the prelims blabla. And you know what? its like a fat man drinking beer yelling at the tv that the pro fotball players arent running fast enough.

I could accept a pro player saying something like that, but a gold leaguer should look up to their superiors not bash them.

In a little stroke of irony, incontrol got a little taste of Korea early this morning when he ran into NYD on the ladder.

Come into my base, incontrol! Take control of me!

But yeah, I hope he makes it into ro64. Foreigners make the GSL for me.

so true, half the battle at GSL is your qualifying draw. I think inc can qualify as long as he gets a favorable draw. He is as good if not better then some of the people who qualified in gsl 2

I feel like he somehow managed to prove both sides wrong.

He didn't qualify, but no one can really hold it against him as he had to face Moon last round and even then took it to 2-1.

He didn't face Moon in the finals, he played 안녕프라임 (HelloPrime) (#18 KR).
