She's from Singapore, and Singapore is a very multilingual country (4 official languages). Most people there speak 2-3 languages. Their English accent do sound like that. Some Singaporeans even mixes Chinese (and other languages) with English, and that bastardization of English is called Singlish. But Kelly's English is pretty fluent, it's just that her accent's pretty thick. I find there are still other English accents that are harder to understand than Kelly's, like some Jamaican, Cockney or Newfie accent. But I do agree that she's not fun to listen to, and sometimes downright annoying when she speaks too fast. So, I hope that clears up that there are parts of the world that do speak English as one of the first/main languages. To those who never heard them before, they may sound like ESL speakers, but they actually have spoken "English" since their childhood. It's just not your more-commonly-heard North American/British/Australian English.

It's funny you mention that cause one of the days after we recorded I was in one of my communication classes and we were talking about countries were English is used as a first language and Singapore was brought up. At that moment I thought to myself "god damn it". I was always under the impression that Mandarin was the primary language used in Singapore.
