Should I be punished in those crucial first 3 minutes on my income, because I have a lower apm than my opponent?

Here are the replays: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2670462/mineral-boosting.zip I was only able to shave off 1 second for the 6 pool and 2 seconds for the 6 hatch. I can't imagine anybody doing this except for a couple of times at the start, and only because there is nothing else to do. It's too APM intensive for too little a gain, even on the slowest speed with only 6 workers =) Might be worth doing it on the mule and queuing it up multiple times like the OP said, but by the time you get mules out I imagine you would have more important things to focus on anyway. But it'll be interesting to see if any gosu terrans start doing it whenever they can.

Should you be punished in any stage of the game, because you have lower apm than your opponent? And should your 30apm opponent be punished, because you have higher apm? How about your 10 apm opponent? What's the "minimum" apm where you shouldnt be punished (I think your question implies you'd answer your own question with a 'no')?

i think this might find a place in high level play, though. i know where i see an application for it. it takes a few seconds to get enough money for drone 13 (if you 9overlord), so doing this could probably get you that drone the second the larva spawns.

I'd suggest you try it again with just 1 worker. Also try the method where you don't hit C, you just hit shift + click on the minerals once each time the worker dumps off his load.

Select a worker that just finished mining some minerals. He should have the 'Return Cargo' ability, which has the hotkey C by default. Hold shift and right click back to his mineral patch. Then as quickly as possible spam C followed by right click and repeat. The last command issued should be right click. Release shift, and repeat this with another worker. wtf? explanation fail. why would u mention the C key at the time u did? You are just queueing up many copies of the commands "Gather Minerals, Return Cargo, Gather Minerals, Return Cargo ...". according to your explanation, u are queuing up, "gather, return, return, return, return, gather", NOT what u wrote up there. u also fail to explain why shift queuing commands work immediately for mining, when normally shift queuing for movement does not.

Fact of the matter is it will probably be patched if Blizzard gets wind of this. Now, try not to think in terms of "this trick is no longer effective" because it actually is. When it is patched, it will have the exact same effect of this trick permanently being effective, i.e. doing this trick to complete perfection for every single peon. What is my point? Let's assume the OP is correct in his calculations... EVERY mineral patch will now be mined 7% faster, while the gas will remain the same. Gas is already getting the short end of the stick as a resource (it's so much harder to get), and now this will change the proportions even more. I wonder how fixing this bug would affect gameplay as a whole, seeing as minerals will be much more abundant. EDIT: If anyone is still confused, what I do is: Select a peon that is mid-mining, but hasn't picked up a mineral. Hold shift and Right Click (On the mineral it is currently mining) Press C You're done.
