The Global StarCraft II league is back after an eleven-month hiatus, starting its comeback with the Code S Season 1 qualifiers.
The stakes were considerably raised from 2024, due to Code S being contracted down to 12 players, as well as the format being changed to give beneficial seeding to the top finishers in the qualifiers. In addition, several international players travelled to Korea to participate, further raising the intensity of the competition.

SHIN, Bunny, Creator, and Zoun were the most notable players to miss the cut, while Stats and Dark hinted at their career status by declining to compete in the qualifiers entirely. On the other hand, sOs earned a shocking return, qualifier for his first Code S since 2021's Season 3.
Code S Season 1 will be played from May 7 to May 16.

According to these results, we can basically guess a lot of the groups. My predictions are:
For group stage 2, the 4 players should be split into ByuN herO and then gumiho Classic
For group stage 1, the 8 players will be split into 2 sections, those who won round 1 and those who lost round 1. The first would be Cure Maru and then Reynor Solar. The second would be Rogue NightMare and then sOs Trigger. Then you would add each of the pairs together.

Hopefully sOs has a good result in this tournament. Haven’t watched his games yet so not sure about his current form

Maybe sOs is really motivated to get that EWC money, 1 more WC for his career. NERD CHILLS. I wonder if it has anything to do with Protoss seemingly doing better this patch!
Is anyone thinking about going to KR to watch GSL...? For Season 1 especially everything is condensed into 2 weeks, AND it's all live at the studio?? Seems like one of the best times to visit KR if you want to specifically watch GSL, without having to pay for lodging for 2-3 months

I gotta wonder if sOs is making a serious comeback, or he just did a lot better than expected during one of his 'random' comebacks (he's taken some sporadic shots at the GSL qualifiers in the last few years, but never made the cut).

sOs returning is certainly awesome. I am a bit disappointed with the small player pool and rushed schedule, but I understand they're under time/money constraints.

I forgot that sOs got super close to qualifying for what was it, IEM 2024 I think? Wasn't he like 2-3 or something in the last set? Something like that... he made some upsets but didn't quite make it. Then i was surprised/sad that he didn't enter the GSL qualifiers after that. Maybe took break or lost motivation. But regained it now, maybe he likes the patches or smth.
Also since it's potentially the last year of GSL, i guess even if players like sOs were retiring, they want to experience the thrill of it all while they have the opportunity.
Maybe sOs wants to win a GSL, win EWC 2025, and become the GOAT

I do not know if the current patch is friendly to his style or not, but i doubt he can advance to next stage given there are two strong Zerg in Group A.
