In about every 1 out of 10 games I win, there seems to be some genius player who has discovered that typing "has left the game!" actually looks like they left the game. It has gone to a point where I have even considered trying it in a losing position.
Now, before I even start to the actual "trick", if any TL member feels this post has a negative effect on the community (for example by spreading this "scam") then just post a comment and I will definitely close this or ask a mod to.
Basically, this trick works when you are obviously about to lose. The losing player will type "GG" and immediately after type "has left the game!" The "victorious" player will/should be typing "GG" back. We all know that when you win a game, a screen will pop up saying "Return to Game" or "Score Screen" (bolded letters are hotkeys). I'm also sure that all of you have encountered a situation where you type "GG" back to the person, but they leave while you are typing. This causes the game to accept your "g" as "Return to Game". When this happens, the player victorious player will then click f10 and leave the game.
EDIT: There seems to be a ton of confusion as to how people can be dumb enough to fall for this trick.

Or something? When he types that fake left-the-game message the victory window doesn't pop up, so I don't get it.

like seriously guys, when someone leaves the game the score screen menu does pop out which lets u leave the game yourself without having to exit menu. if the victory screen did not pop up then he obviously did not leave the game.
Not to single these people out, but this seems to be the most confusing idea. I will try to describe it as best I can.
The score screen WILL NOT come up if you are typing "gg" while the other person actually leaves the game, as it will trigger the command "Return to Game"
Therefore, when a player types, "gg" and the winner responds with "gg" right when the other player types "has left the game!", the assumption of the winner will be that they pressed "g" JUST AS the victory screen pops up.
The end of this video shows this happening in a real ladder game, and I also talk about how to decipher whether the enemy actually left or not. Basically, just look to the left of the players name and see whether there is an [All] shown.
Fake GG Video (spoiler) + Show Spoiler +
Skip to 2:00 for the actual gg.
Again, if any TL member or mod feels this post is counterproductive please feel free to delete it/lock it/close it/whatever. I typed this with good intentions in mind and hope that this will help anyone who gets stuck in this situation.

There was at least 2 threads like this in the last week or two

are you trying to tell us to gg scam when we're about to lose? i haven't seen anyone do this no one should be fall for this trick

Not to yell wolf but I smell Tdot. If not, you are probably not getting a good reaction from this. People dont like tricks deciding things that should be left for skills to decide.
|
I totally pulled this on some guy who pulled it on me. He typed in "has left the game" and I was winning and in turn typed "has left the game." Then he left. I'm not sure if it was that he knew i had seen through his trick or because he thought i had left.
|
that's vicious. Even more vicious if he types "as left the game"

Pretty sure that if you try and leave a game before they leave you have to click a button called "surrender". If you're silly enough to click "surrender" because of such an old trick like that you deserve your loss, your opponent outplayed you by not underestimating your stupidity. learn from it and move on. Its not like this hasn't happened before

Just keep playing until the victory screen comes up. EZ

Hahaha this is seriously hilarious to me. Some people are pretty clever. Of course I would probably think it was much less funny if I fell for it.

From what I understand, there is no colon after the name if a player has legitimately left the game.

You're missing the point. If you type gg back to someone that ggs, and they leave the game too quickly, your "g" is a hotkey for Return to Game (for the score screen that comes up). Which takes you right back to the game. I have this happen to me frequently.
What this trick does is attempt to mimic this occurence so the winner will mistakenly leave.

With this logic I can steal from kids by tricking them to give it to me, run away and tell them to learn from experience. Using peoples stupidy against them is the logical concept here.
"Its just a game" subjective opinion, a mobster might say "its just a life" and tell you about the infinity of the universe.

The smart person would realize it says surrender and not leave game or whatever, but if you thought he left, you really wouldn't pay attention to whatever it said, would you? I've fallen for this once and I saw surrender and clicked it but it wasn't until after I left and saw that I'd lost that I processed the "surrender."

Unfortunately, this is also hard to detect, because the colon will always be the color of the player. Most of the SC2 colors are very dark and the maps are generally dark as well. Therefore if a green player typed something on Lost Temple for example, the colon would be virtually invisible

It also says "x has been defeated". If that message never appears, keep playing.

Ninja'd two bases for purely gas and made BC's in a TvT where I was contained.
Backstabbed his base with my marauder army, his vikings dropped (LOL) and got massacred. BC's now free to wreck everything containing my base.
He says "gg" and says "has left the gam" missing horribly. I raged at this attempt.
NUKES. EVERYWHERE.
|
Umm, doesnt it say surrender in the options if the other person hasnt left, and score screen after they have?
|
obviously, the answer to this problem is to never type gg back to your opponent. LOL
|
That's just not cool. I wouldn't do that.
|
This sounds like a really good way to make a lot of people pissed off.
|
The only thing I've seen people do is go "GG" and then expect me to leave or something...cause sometimes they decide to make another base after going GG.
