Hmm...I guess that wraps back around to...an offensive GG?
It's funny, because I think in the original SCBW "official strategy guide" online (http://classic.battle.net/scc/) one of the tips is to watch out for people trying to type "nuclear launch detected" or "has left the game." Who would have known it would come back years later to haunt us again!
I'd never heard of this being done until literaly 5 mins ago when it was tried on me. Came onto TL to see if there was some info on it. If you'v been playing game after game and it happens to you when ur not expecting it is realy convincing, atleast to a Bronze player like me it does. ty for the post!

lol.
"Yo dawg, we heard yo like fake GGs...."
but seriously, i didnt know about this trick until i read this thread. thanks for sharing, its kinda nasty. but easy to spot if u know about it, because the "has left the game!" has a "[All]" before it if its a scam attempt.
I fell for this once a while ago when I was laddering more...it made me upset but then made me laugh and I messaged the guy saying nice trick...he was prob surprised i found it humorous I fell for it
this reminds me how in the browser game Tactics Arena Online, if you said something that the word filter blocked, it booted you from a game. so my friend was losing and said "hey i'm doing this crossword puzzle, what's an african country that starts with the letter n?", and it worked.

Strange that it would work, considering there isn't an African country with an offensive name.
I remember one game someone tried to do this to me. I don't have the replay anymore, but it went along the lines of:
Him: has left the game! Me: Are you dumb? Him: ...(BM blahblahblah)
Then 2 minutes of me raping his base.
It's pretty easy to see, and it's never worked on me. For some reason, I've never had the screen disappear when I'm typing gg, and I don't use hotkeys for the menu, that could be why I don't leave quick enough not to notice what the other guy's trying to pull and call him on it.

On topic, I have had the fake-GG used against me a couple times, but not in a long while. It kinda makes me happy to see honestly, as long as I don't fall for it lol. I've seen it in some straight up matches though, like thirty minute intense matches. Then it kinda upsets me, because what respect I may have had for a good opponent suddenly ceases to exist.
Just a reason more to use the korean "ww" instead of "gg".
However; its also a mistake of Blizzard to make it work that way; it should have a bigger signal that a player actual "leaves" / like turning all units in a "white" color or something.
But in the end this trick only works like 1 out of 100 ; and you will get a major problem if you pull this "trick" of one too often; as this totally destroys your reputation for your account.
So better stay fair and win like a real men; SC2 isnt a pussy game.
How is gaining a win for what should have been a loss beneficial to the loser? Ya ok, he gets more points to do what? play higher ranked players that will continue to beat him?

Doesn't make any sense to me...
It doesn't make any sense to you that someone would try to steal a win in an online game? It's not exactly like BM people on Bnet are thinking logically about it.
Wow how did this actually work? Come on people show you're smarter than to argue with a bronze league poster...F10 n to leave a lost game, F10 s to leave a won game after hitting g
Right after you type that, select every unit you have and make them "hold" position, including mining guys. If the opponent doesn't leave right away, he might when he's killing random units that won't even move.
It'd definitely feel awkward to continue killing a base that looks like it has no one controlling it, combined with the "has left the game" thing might make them leave too.
Pretty amusing if you ask me. Doubt it'd work on more experienced players though.
You would have to be really not paying attention for this to work... the screen pops up on its own after someone leaves. You don't manually leave the game, it pops up asking you if u want to. The losing player can't simulate this without actually leaving the game...
Shouldn't matter anyway. Even if you return to game when you bring the menu up again You will have "Score Screen" instead of "Leave the Game" on the menu. Anyone that falls for this deserves it.
This is really old, but definitely funnier than fake gg.
