Wow that poll is just embaressing. I can't believe people in this community are so negative now. Between the caster criticism and the witch hunts, the starcraft community's path is starting to look grim.

And really, the show does spend most of the time talking about MLG when there are tonnes of other events going on. Other than DH coverage since they had Thorzain on the show, every other event (save GSL) gets like 5 minutes.

guess you completely missed on JP saying how improved NASL is this season and that everyone should watch it.

of course MLG gets the most coverage. You know why? Its the only event all the hosts are actually at. Why did DH get a ton of coverage? Because Geoff and Thorzain were there! Most of the events, the hosts aren't even at and half of the time they didn't even see it.

I wish people would think

You do realize JP's job at MLG is not to be a caster or a host? He is suppose to be a behind the scene guy that we don't know about. The only reason he has the hosting/casting job at MLG is because when SC2 was about to be released JP really wanted MLG to pick it up, and basically did quite a bit of the heavy lifting himself. He said in the SOTG before this last one that hopefully he wont have to cast anymore at MLG soon.

People blindly assuming shit about him is really annoying. He has done an amazing job in the community. What have all of you people complaining done besides soak in all the amazing content people produce?

I'm not sure if you're trying to include me in "all of you people complaining" or not, but I'm most certainly not complaining about content, as you seem to imply. My reason for jumping into this discussion is based on his comments about wanting to quit, that felt to me like a threat, albeit an empty one. There are tons of people who want to break into the scene, and the fact that he feels like he deserves special treatment on top of the position he is in just rubs me the wrong way. I'd be willing to bet there are dozens of people who would be glad to do what he does and take twice the criticism.

And what, why haven't those dozens of people broken in and done what JP has done? maybe they haven't broken in because they're not willing to put in the time and effort to do what JP has done. .

Because he already has all the fame and works for MLG... That's my point. I'm not claiming he doesn't work hard, he does. I'm claiming he is replaceable, which nothing you are saying refutes.

He may have been a little rude, but I think his point is worth discussing. Are there a lot of people out there that really like JP's casting as opposed to the casting of others? I mean, I could see Tyler or Artosis being justified making the comments JP made, but JP's only value to MLG is his celebrity. If he is unpopular he is useless to them. He's one dimensional (the only thing he's go going for him is being a good "host") and because of that, he could be easily replaced. It just seems odd that he'd feel entitled to disproportionally positive feedback compared to others, when considering the skill set he posses.

edit 2: The more I think about this, the more I realize I think of JP as somewhat expendable to MLG because of some moments that stood out to be during his casting in which he was acting as an analytical caster, paired with the likes of Rob Simpson. These moments are characterized by either incorrect analysis of the game/strategy, or the casters missing key moments in the game (such as a certain tech, a drop, possibly a unusual expansion) that even as a viewer I was about to pick up on, just from the minimap or production tab. After reflecting on this, I've come to a much bigger concern: why on earth is JP in that role to begin with? Who at MLG is putting him in this situation? As far as I know, JP does not claim to be a top tier player or analyst, so why do these situations seem so prevalent?

And your edit 2 just exemplifies the crappy stance people have against JP. Why are people so against JP. You do realize MLG has a lot of SC2 casters right? And pretty much all of them except the usual Tastosis, Day9, Husky, and yes, JP are terrible. Can you stop acting like there's an army of people better than JP in every way waiting to step in if only we criticize him more.

I'm not against JP at all. Day9, Tastless, Artosis, and even Husky have skills and talents that JP doesn't. That doesn't mean he's bad, its just means that he is easier to replace. As I've said repeatedly, I just think he's not in a position to threaten to quit just because people made him angry.

Apparently this is hard to understand, but to clarify, I hold the opinion that JP's comments were out of line because he lacks any unique and irreplaceable talent, therefore threatening to quit is childish AND I love State of the Game, appreciate how much work JP and people like him put in for the community, and hope JP continues to be successful. In my opinion, his comments were counterproductive to his own personal career growth.

State of the Game is not a news show. Nor is it a talk show. It's a show about a few friends chilling together, discussing certain topics because they all work in the same industry. And this buddy-flair is what makes SotG so good.

It's not about how it could be more efficient or stuff. Great job guys, keep up the good work!

hm i dont understand how you can write such a post as an employee of MLG. I mean MLG wants to sell a product to the audience you are insulting here and in addition you are telling them to either stop complaining about things they dont like about the product or to go away. If you want professional spokespeople, then enjoy your complete and total separation from every progaming figure in the industry, apart from extremely carefully worded announcements and press releases.

Pretty funny that you think you know what i want, because you are actually completely wrong. I did not say in a single word that i WANT spokespeople instead of community figures, nor did i say i WANT to be treated as a customer. All im saying is that business works that way, people WILL contact your sonsors and they WILL contact your employer for stuff they dont like, and the players/casters/community figures have to learn how to deal with that, since telling the community to stop doing that doesn't work. But to make it clear to some people: I personally love watching sotg with JP on it,and telling people you like what you think they did wrong is not hating. I do not contact sponsors or anything like that and i dont support people that do so. Having an opinion on how audiences/communities are going to act is not the same as agreeing with what they do.

I am an avid listener of the show since back in the beta, yet i have never posted comments in this thread, on twitter, or even reddit about the show. I can remember, when the show was audio only, with a very varied cast, and without regular air-time, and i just want to say i really apreciate all the improvements you have brought to the show, productionwise, and contentwise. I myself have worked with independent radio broadcasting, and i pay my deepest respect for the amount of no-budget unspripted quality airtime you put out there on a regular basis. The only critizism i have of the show is that the drama-seeking and uninformed loudness of reddit (and some people in this thread) through time has seized so much attention of the show, now to the point where you feel frustrated, and feel like taking the show off air... That would be a genuinely sad thing, if that were to be the case. I would much rather see a less interactive show, that deals more with whats going on in the game itself, and briefly covers the larger scale politics of esports (and doesnt deal at all with random drama in the community) than i would see it taken off the air...
