That poll doesn't mean much because of the bias. People who are totally fine with SotG don't come in this thread a lot because they don't really have anything to say. People who are pissed off for whatever reason will go here to complain.
But seriously, people need to grow up and stop bitching about great content that is being delivered free of charge.

You sir are stupid.
If I can't create a better show because I don't have access to all these great personalities, or information, or even computer gear, or time, that implies that my critique on others work is nullified? What a retarded logic.
Hell, we should not speak our minds about anything from now on until we do it ourselves. Yeah, cause this is how stuff works apparently.

People start from nothing and become something. We aren't just born great people who automatically accomplish things. People rise, people gain fame. You are just giving yourself excuses and calling me stupid in the process.
As I stated, you try it, I will tune in on your first episode. Some series out there had 100+ episodes before they got a real viewership or even noticed. They worked hard to become something, you just don't get it. It's easy to spit on things and say "They are lucky" there was little to no luck. I personally only knew of DJWheat and heard of him from epileptic gaming, but never anything about JP's show till SC2 starting to become big.
Instead of calling me names, and making excuses, please try and I repeat. TRY to make something yourself before you spit on others work. These people work their asses off for us so we can have great entertainment.
Edit:
Seems you're a different poster, but the comment still stands

The old "if you don't like X do it better yourself" argument. That argument has never flown and it doesn't here either. Obviously a show like SOTG should be open to critique, despite being free. That's the way producers and consumers communicate. The only sad part is the way a lot of the critique has been expressed and the fact that JP felt the need to sink to their level. Behind this mess there is valid critique:
1) Don't announce a SOTG when there will be no SOTG. A lot of people staying up to watch will be disappointed, not because the content sucked, but because it wasn't the content they wanted. Instead, post it on your Youtube channel and make a TL post with the interview. 2) People don't like the irregular schedule. You can say people complaining about the irregular schedule are ungrateful, but they're really just giving JP the feedback that if it continues, they may stop watching the show. That's ought to be better than people quitting the show and JP having no idea why.
|
I can't believe JP brings content that I can watch at my own volition while he uploads the VODs within 5 hours at most so I can watch parts that I miss while I'm attending class. It's unbearable and I won't stand for this production of enjoyable content that offers a perspective on most things Starcraft related.

When you think eSports' face you think of a caster instead of a player? Don't read too much in my question, just think its a weird choice, but it's yours to make.
For me the face of eSports worldwide = Boxer. Incontrol would be the closer to it in US (for me), maybe it feels like that because he tries to do too much at same time: Caster, PR, Ad Actor, Player, Team Captain, Show host, Popular Streamer, Community Guy, even eSport dancer (if you count his WCG win GIF)

Please go bitch on reddit, or to your mom. He may have been a little rude, but I think his point is worth discussing. Are there a lot of people out there that really like JP's casting as opposed to the casting of others? I mean, I could see Tyler or Artosis being justified making the comments JP made, but JP's only value to MLG is his celebrity. If he is unpopular he is useless to them. He's one dimensional (the only thing he's go going for him is being a good "host") and because of that, he could be easily replaced. It just seems odd that he'd feel entitled to disproportionally positive feedback compared to others, when considering the skill set he posses. edit: clarified some wording You do realize JP's job at MLG is not to be a caster or a host? He is suppose to be a behind the scene guy that we don't know about. The only reason he has the hosting/casting job at MLG is because when SC2 was about to be released JP really wanted MLG to pick it up, and basically did quite a bit of the heavy lifting himself. He said in the SOTG before this last one that hopefully he wont have to cast anymore at MLG soon. People blindly assuming shit about him is really annoying. He has done an amazing job in the community. What have all of you people complaining done besides soak in all the amazing content people produce? I did not know that, thanks for clarifying. I do wonder why he does end up casting so much then... (See my second edit for my previous post.) I'm not sure if you're trying to include me in "all of you people complaining" or not, but I'm most certainly not complaining about content, as you seem to imply. My reason for jumping into this discussion is based on his comments about wanting to quit, that felt to me like a threat, albeit an empty one. There are tons of people who want to break into the scene, and the fact that he feels like he deserves special treatment on top of the position he is in just rubs me the wrong way. I'd be willing to bet there are dozens of people who would be glad to do what he does and take twice the criticism. And what, why haven't those dozens of people broken in and done what JP has done? maybe they haven't broken in because they're not willing to put in the time and effort to do what JP has done. . Because he already has all the fame and works for MLG... That's my point. I'm not claiming he doesn't work hard, he does. I'm claiming he is replaceable, which nothing you are saying refutes. Special treatment? How many bad Dailies are there or bad streams. JP puts so much effort into what he does and doesn't even try to make as much ad revenue as those but he gets 1000x more shit about it. Complaining about the free work someone is doing, saying they should be willing to take twice the criticism, is acting ungrateful and entitled. Asking not to be criticized harshly on the internet is asking for special treatment. The best of the best get given all sorts of shit by the droves of anonymous trolls looking to rile people up. JP implying that he specifically should be less subject to it than others is silly. It just seems odd that he'd feel entitled to disproportionally positive feedback compared to others, when considering the skill set he posses. edit: clarified some wording edit 2: The more I think about this, the more I realize I think of JP as somewhat expendable to MLG because of some moments that stood out to be during his casting in which he was acting as an analytical caster, paired with the likes of Rob Simpson. These moments are characterized by either incorrect analysis of the game/strategy, or the casters missing key moments in the game (such as a certain tech, a drop, possibly a unusual expansion) that even as a viewer I was about to pick up on, just from the minimap or production tab. After reflecting on this, I've come to a much bigger concern: why on earth is JP in that role to begin with? Who at MLG is putting him in this situation? As far as I know, JP does not claim to be a top tier player or analyst, so why do these situations seem so prevalent? And your edit 2 just exemplifies the crappy stance people have against JP. Why are people so against JP. You do realize MLG has a lot of SC2 casters right? And pretty much all of them except the usual Tastosis, Day9, Husky, and yes, JP are terrible. Can you stop acting like there's an army of people better than JP in every way waiting to step in if only we criticize him more. I'm not against JP at all. Day9, Tastless, Artosis, and even Husky have skills and talents that JP doesn't. That doesn't mean he's bad, its just means that he is easier to replace. As I've said repeatedly, I just think he's not in a position to threaten to quit just because people made him angry.
Apparently this is hard to understand, but to clarify, I hold the opinion that JP's comments were out of line because he lacks any unique and irreplaceable talent, therefore threatening to quit is childish AND I love State of the Game, appreciate how much work JP and people like him put in for the community, and hope JP continues to be successful. In my opinion, his comments were counterproductive to his own personal career growth. Dude, wtf? State of the Game is not a news show. Nor is it a talk show. It's a show about a few friends chilling together, discussing certain topics because they all work in the same industry. And this buddy-flair is what makes SotG so good. It's not about how it could be more efficient or stuff. Great job guys, keep up the good work!
You're gonna have to help me here. What did your comments have to do with what I said?
I can't help but feel people are still interpreting my posts stating my opinion that JP was out of line threatening to quit as someone who wants to unconditionally hate on JP/SotG jumping on his mistake. The latter could not be further from the truth. Please read the entirety of my post before responding.

You are making the same mistake he does, stating opinion as fact...To me, InControl is more the face of eSports than Day9, I see him far more often at tournaments, shows, he is more outspoken, and more directly involved with the TL community (does Day9 still post here except for announcements? )...Also, to me, InControl is more himself than Day9, Day9 is performing an act, InControl is the act, a natural joker, so we all have our opinions .

Just because you want to be a consumer of a certain product doesn't mean you'll want to produce it. There are many ways to send signals to producers, for example:
1) Simply stop consuming their product. 2) Contact them with feedback (usually the prefered one from the producers' stand-point). 3) Put out a competing product.
I'm fine with all of those, it depends on your personal preferences and motives. You're trying to invalidate 2) because 3) is possible. How do you defend that position?
