Yeah I love in SC2 how making money is a demonized concept. Our schedules are jam packed with things we do to make a living which means passion projects sometimes take a back seat..
That in turn means the 15 year olds who don't have a life to pay for come on the forum and start villifying the people who do have bills to pay. Sorry guys.. SOTG is an amazing thing we all love and are committed to but we cannot live off the good graces of people's appreciation. We have to get paid and that means prioritizing the things we do for money ahead of those that we do for free.

You want to pay us money? Do it, then you get to bitch when we do stuff you don't like. Up until then you can absolutely bitch and moan but it's a free service so you just look like an ass.
So people aren't allowed to voice their concerns over the show because it's free? If you're deciding to create a show you're opening yourself up to both praise and critic you can't realistically expect just to get the upside without the downside.
+ Show Spoiler +They should get criticism, if the feedback is productive and contribute to atleast something, not just pointless rage and flamming. In the end it's a free community show, only meant to be enjoyed, not something to get mad about
Well of course raging and flaming is bad and not the way to go I definetly agree with that.

What is dirty cash in this context? Do you mean a sponsor? That is an incredibly twisted definition of "dirty cash". Dirty cash implies nefarious doings, like bribes and blackmail and such. Are you trying to say that any time someone gets sponsored in the SC2 community it is the equivalent of them getting bribed? I don't think that is a very tenable position.

If you think I am speaking to those constructively "voicing concerns" your deductive reasoning could use some tweaking. I am probably speaking to the people you could find on each page talking about how they hate us, our teams, jp is a bad host, we are bad now that we don't get paid etc etc..

Those aren't the only options; it's a false dichotomy you are setting up. The choice is not between 0 criticism and all criticism. There is such a thing as constructive criticism. iNcontroL is right. The majority of the time this thread is not used for constructive criticism but for bitching about stuff people didn't like. "JP sucks", "stop talking about MLG", and "I can't take their lack of schedule" are the three most common complaints in the last 3 months. None of those are useful to anyone.

Oh the show is free Incontrol?
Well my bad, suddenly all the sound issues etc. are gone. How foolish of people to give feedback, proper one at that by the way. Just because you usually tend to respond to some destructive feedback comment and in return call most of us scrub that doesn't make the show any better.
I haven't listened to SOTG in quite a while, mostly due to terrible audio and editing (if you can call it that). Meanwhile I just recently listened to "The Executives" which, while far from perfect too, is just fantastic to listen to. And guess what, they respond accordingly to feedback instead of calling us names.

That's not true. There's a lot valid, constructive feedback. Meanwhile most of it is ignored, and if it's someone responding, it certainly isn't Incontrol, he after all chooses on terrible comment and goes on about that.

My bad. I had no idea you were counting the constructive comments vs the harmful ones for a 2.2k page thread. How nice of you to clarify that what I said "wasn't true."

This is the dumbest comment I have seen in a while. I love how some expect players and casters to do things for free and live off the warm love of the community. You know these people need to make money for the little things, like food, shelter and so on. If you have issues with people getting paid for entertainment they provide because it "changes their attitude", then I suggest you...well I don't know. That point of view is so silly that I can't provide a suggestion because there is nothing reasonable. Maybe you should just stop posting in this thread for starters.
Incontrol
Looking forward to the next SotG. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in and being committed to the show even when it has been hard to pull off.

Hey Thx for hosting this awesome show guys, I'm having a great time watching it every time and I actually love that you've all got different backgrounds and therefore have a different way of analysing things. I started watching it a few weeks ago with old VOD's, still haven't seen the show Live but I'd love too ... which leads me to this question: When is the show actually aired ? Can't find the info anywhere .... :S Anyway thx for the awesome work once again.

I like the show! It's free and I have no problems with the audio or video. It's more than fine for our purposes.
My take on SOTG is the following: Some known SC2-personalities are having an informal talk about recent events, and it just happens to be broadcasted live.
I want to get to know the players and casters on a personal level to help create a storyline (trademark Day[9]). The more inside jokes, personal stories and dirty secrets we get - the better. I do not want a formal news broadcast.
|
Better audio would obviously be preferable, but video I dont really care so much about... What I like the most is just to hear stuff from the personalities perspective, I dont mind if they dont watch a tournament or not, nor do I really care about the previews all that much. It's the stories, jokes and informal discussions that takes place that I really enjoy. Also Tylers analysis, I love it when he gets into it :D
Thanks for a great show!

Just turn your speakers up.
Tho if incontrol his dogs bark you might have a mild heart attack.

Why would you pay for state of the game, state of the game for me is pro players and people with power in the sc2 community talk about the game the purpose of the show is not only to make money. of course for jp its his job to arrange this and he takes time to edit this and put it out for us to see. but thats why they have some commercials or did they remove them again?. I would never pay to see it thats just crazy.

So some constructive feedback. I would love if the show goes back when each week there was a new guest + the hosts. I was missing this when the show was on MLG where you basicly only had guest when somebody was missing (those where the shows i enjoed the most). So i hope when the show goes weekly again with a new format and stuff you include a lot of guests to the show.

It is a really good show and one I never miss.
Still my critique is I would like a weekly spot but I know its not easy to arrange (I get it). Still would like a more Cosmopolitan audience ie some kind of permanent European to be added. I know the shows start time makes that prohibitive (I get it) but Artosis gives you Korea and you have an abundance of US. Maybe Apollo ...he seems to like staying up late for MLG for instance? This last piece may seem a bit harsh but consider dropping Tyler or Day9. The former as due to his introvertism need to drag thoughts out of him or Day9 because he seems busy and misses alot of shows. I understand they are both super popular (they are both awesome guys) so this last thought wont go down that well but you need to talk on a talk show so you need to be present and willing to comment on almost all topics.

On your last point, I wouldn't want to see either leave. Tyler, even if he's not contributing to every single discussion (that's really not necessarily a bad thing), if he does say something it's the most important and very insightful stuff 99% of the time.
As for Day9 I don't see that as a reason for dropping him, if you like you could just consider him a frequent guest I guess, losing him altogether wouldn't gain anything imo.

I'm actually expecting him to have a totally cogent and reasonable conversation with the hosts about any topic, but whenever the subject of Extended Series comes up, he's just going to scream "I'm John Nelson, BITCHES!" until they change the subject.
At least, that's how I'd respond in his place.

Didnt know I had to contribute with something to voice an opinion Anyways, most of the "bitching and moaning" is people who loves to show so much that they cant stand a week without it. Take that as a compliment!
My comment on "event sotg" having adverticeing feel was kinda silly, its just that I like the "normal" ones so much better.
ps: bring on QXC more!
