Why do some SC teams have 10 members if they're never going to use all of them in a single match? the standart format of sc2 leagues is 4x 1v1 + 1x 2v2 but a depth in the squad is always good also showmatches can be 7x 1v1 or even more

First of all, you have a bigger pool of selection per map. If your team needs 5 players for 5 different maps, eventually your lineup will be predictable and other teams with more players will have the ability to "snipe" your players. Secondly, you have more verity during practice without a leak. If you choose to practice with other teams, when the time comes to face them, they will have more information about you than you would like. Thirdly, you cannot guarantee consistency. What if one falls sick? What if he's just not doing well and needs a break? Finally, having more players than required gives you a room to grow a potential. Korean progaming coaches usually say it takes 2 to 3 years for a player to become "usable." Even players like Jaedong and Flash had this. No one knew Flash when he used to get destroyed by Nada in WeMade Fox during his early years. So if you want to have a good player for cheap, so you decided to grow one, you can't just put him in the line up. He will be demolished and might be discouraged or may be wrongly judged of his potential. Not to mention it will cost you matches. It's exactly same as any other sports. Sure in eSport its rare event to have injuries. But other things happen.

Teams also do that because it isn't like everyone on a team can make every clan war. Additionally, it is better for the team to have more players representing the sponsors (more shots at winning stuff) and to train with each other. Sponsors want a successful team... more players helps that along.
