I can't help but think they took this same mindset into developing Bnet 2.0 with stiffing the hardcore crowd thinking it will gain them bigger profits. However, what they fail to realize is that the hardcore community is a lot more important to a game like SC than it is to WoW...they're the ones who kept the first SC alive when it would've otherwise died years ago and without them SC2 will fail in the long run. Hopefully they realize this and make the necessary changes to Bnet before its too late because SC2 itself is a great game that deserves a better service. How does the removal of chatrooms benefit the casual gamer? I would reach to say that chat rooms are more important in a bigger way to the more casual and average gamer than a hardcore player. Eh I disagree...general chat channels are nothing but spam fests so the real use for chat comes from clan use and hanging out in private channels to set up matches which casuals don't take a part in. I doubt you care much about chat if you're just logging in to play some UMS or a couple of bronze 4v4's. The way the ladder is set up also caters only to casual gamers with making everyone feel special with hundreds of division. And taking out LAN/cross server plays only hurts the hardcore crowd not the casual one. I completely understand what you are trying to say, but if you are a gamer with a community (casual gamers are parts of communities too, just take TL for example, plenty of casuals here,) I am sure you would like to have a nice section of the internet blocked off to you and your friends confined in the game. When I was younger I belonged to an MMO community that spanned from the states to EU. We played Diablo 2 by crossing gateways, and that was eons ago (at least in Blizzards terms it was, considering they believe the use of chatrooms = stoneage.) Also, even casual gamers will have friends that play video games around the world. They will more than likely be linked together differently (they probably didn't meet up in wc3x Asia while playing a game like I am sure some have today,) but I think that the casual and the hardcore gamer have something very important to lose equally here at the least. Edit: Also let us not forget that there was a very simple way of dealing with spam. It is currently implemented in WoW and it works just fine. With all the right clicking UI action in SC2 now, I can't see the report spam and ticker to squelching as being any sort of huge obstacle that blizzard is incapable of surmounting. Overall, let us not decide whom in the community has the most to lose, but to what the community itself will struggle to regain.

You may not care, but you have just lost an extremely loyal fan since 1998. I am going to consider canceling my pre-order. In the near future, I wouldn't be surprised if this game is going to get some very bad publicity stemming from this community. Do you care about your reputation Blizzard?

Actually, in the beggining of SC and SCBW, the general chat channels were way better and they didn't had those spambot issues. As for myself, who joined automatically to "Brood War BRA-1" because of my IP, the general chat(without spambots) was the best thing on BNet 1.0. I could talk to people I didn't knew, join clans, make friends, organize UMS games and stuff, and I was a casual player back then. Blizzard CAN make a general chat with a protection from spambots, even better now because you can have only one account per 60$ in a single server.

Instead of just posting in a forum thread and being washed away, make sure Blizzard knows how you feel. Here are a variety of ways to get in touch and also get the word out. Make sure to be polite and express your thoughts. If this public outcry does not work, a boycott may have to be organized. Remember the issues: - Chat channels - Cross region play - No LAN, even after Battle.net validation - League system - Clan system - Bnet 2.0 in general Twitter: http://twitter.com/StarCraft http://twitter.com/Starcraft_PL http://twitter.com/Starcraft_IT http://twitter.com/Starcraft_RU http://twitter.com/Starcraft_ES http://twitter.com/Starcraft_FR http://twitter.com/Starcraft_DE Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Blizzard http://www.facebook.com/StarCraft http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftZHTW (Chinese) http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftRU http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftPL http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftIT http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftFR http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftES http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftDE YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/blizzard Digg this: http://digg.com/pc_games/Blizzard_Confirms_No_LAN_Play_Region_Lock_in_Starcraft_2 Blizzard Forums: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25170606873&sid=5000&pageNo=1 (Topic on the interview with Frank Pearce) http://forums.battle.net/board.html?forumId=25352526&sid=5000 (Beta NA Suggestions Forum) Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_353137502_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000493841&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=1RA3JXYVWTAG54RQQCVQ&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1263667062&pf_rd_i=B000ZKA0J6 (Ask the SC2 developers/producers contest)

I don't get why they are trying to reinvent the wheel. They got the perfect recipe for success in battle.net 1.0, but they choose to completely ignore all it's great features. Along the way they demolish any attempt at creativity and freedom of expression by limiting map makers maximum allowed uploaded content. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's something they will charge money for, theres allready talk about a market place. I'm sure that blizzard is going to try and suck every possible penny out of the user, regardless if it hurts the game in the long haul. I'm not overly thrilled about this new face of blizzard, trying to control every aspect of the game in every little detail possible. What's really the point in storing the maps on the servers rather then storing them localy by the players? Wouldn't it be more logical to let the players store them? Have the players use their bandwitch, their storage rather then having to set up massive server farms for handling that stuff? And what about the new game hosting, games being hosted by the server means added cost for blizzard also. Honestly I can live with the noobs that maphack & drophack, it wont happen in tournaments and I can count on my 'game' being solid enough to defeat any sort of maphacker. I'm thorughtly unimpressed by blizzards new battle.net 2.0. I'm pretty sure we're all well aware of the missing or lacking details about the new UI but let me refresh it. No way to give 'your' hosted games titles No chat channels No way to change region gateways No way to check your actual rank on ladder(Not that anyone is going to give a hoot once 3rd party ladders get going) Almost no support for map project developers( see this thread) I'm pretty sure I can come up with more, once I get some sleep but cant be bothered right now. But what we did get, was a facebook add, woot! Now when I log on to my facebook account once every few weeks I can get bnet updates from fellow geeks? SC2 appears to be a great game, that's why it's so sad to see all these restrictions on the players freedom.

Is there going to be any kind of work to resolve that issue, to get them onto an English-speaking server of some description? You know, it depends on the technology infrastructure provided by the telecommunications providers. It's something that we'll be constantly evaluating and looking at. In an ideal world, the Blizzard gaming community would be unified in one global region, but the technology's just not there yet. Ten years ago, we weren't making 3D games. Hopefully, in the same way that we're making 3D games today and we weren't ten years ago, down the road the connectivity in terms of the internet will be such that we can bring everyone together in a unified community, but it's just not possible right now. That's the ideal world. yeah because 3D graphics have SOOOO muich to do with latency

Codorna 05/28/2010 07:49:19 PM PDT BNet 2.0 FAQ How can i participate in international championships on the B.Net 2.0? It's simple, you can create a European or Asian account and download the client for just an extra 60$ How do i make new friends in B.Net 2.0? During the game, ask if your opponent wants to be your friend. After he takes an epic spanking from your cheese tactic, give him your email and AIM How do i create a TAG for my clan? Buy another Starcraft , that way you can easly put your clan's tag, just be careful so your clan doesn't end or you don't get kicked, although we all know that rarely happens How do i know what is my real ladder position? Ask God How do i create a channel for my clan? www.mirc.com How do i create a clan? Call your friends and tell em that each one of them should buy a new starcraft 2 game, so they can put the tag, don't forget to ask every new member to buy a new game How do I set up a clan match? its VERY simple, sign up in an internet forum, give your email to everyone and ask the email of everyone from the opposite clan In my LAN / tourney / WCG / ESWC the B.Net is lagging / failing, what do I do? Start praying for a pacifist / patient crowd I wanna change my name, what do I do? Buy a new Starcraft, is'nt it obvious? I have a friend that plays on Europe, I want to play with him, what do I do? Buy another starcraft (European version), take the opportunity to buy 5 starcrafts, in case you want to change your name, or put a clan tag, or play with an Australian friend I want to talk to my virtual friends like in the classic b.net, what do I do? Search on forums for email address of random people and add them to your friend list (some are bound to have an account), invite every one of them to your party, and then you will be able to talk source

- the development team showed lack of understanding in unit design - the game editor is not sufficient for modders to fix these problems - the game is completely locked down so blizz controls all aspects of esports in SC2 - the executives are douches Ironically, the first issue, while the most visible, and the one we've been bitching about, probably doesn't have as much impact as the others. I mean I'd hope in Wait...

No chat rooms, not being able to log in to other servers. Do they understand everything that can be accomplished through chat rooms? When I was a noob I used to love to grab my teammates goto another channel and offer a clan war... That's GONE now. And everything else you can think of.. They think they're benefiting our game experience by taking things away... why not just have it all? It's all about money.. I can't believe it.. Blizzard just used to think about creating badass games not this stupid shit. Edit: And what's up with the "MAP STORE?" Why even think about that? It shouldn't even cross your mind! Why wouldn't ALL maps be free. Fuck off blizzard. Lost a loyal fan.
