If there ever was the time for a change, this is it. Not to mention that the popularity of Starcraft peaked years ago, and since then have been in steady decline, but no, they are doing a great job.

KesPA might not have done the perfect thing in every situation, but they still spend a ton of money spreading esports in Korea, and what does Blizzard do? Blizzard just go in, spend £0, and give a monopoly to GOM to do whatever the hell they want. Kespa do a better job than Blizzard's idiot esports representative (el oh el, WoW arena tourney manager) could ever do, anyways.

Also, Gom-TV will host Global Starcraft II league, Starcraft II World Championship, as well as Clan Battles and Streak (?) Battles in the future. Global sc2 leagues? Their pro league maybe? GLOBAL! Nice! SC2 WC also sounds good and clan battles will creat some good matches for sure (remember TL vs EG). ![]() What are streak battles? ![]()

Ratings aren't going down. You're mistaking the live attendance with tv audience. Live attending dropped alot because both channels moved their studios to outskirts of seoul while before that, they were ran in smaller studios, in crowded areas, providing with many visitors. For years, OGN was broadcasting their games in the biggest pc bang of Seoul, in middle of the biggest shopping mall, that's why there were so many people. MBC for instance, never had huge live crowds because the games were broadcasted in their own building studios, with every other show, hence limiting public access. You guys really don't know what you are talking about.

Ok you can have your SC2 and at least put some effort into developing it but can they really do something about BW ?? I thought KESPA bought the rights to broadcast BW like ages ago and its a done deal. Nothing can be done about this at least not in Korea with Korean law backing them up or Im missing something here ????

I'm not buying another product of theirs if this goes ahead, be it sc2, diablo 3 or whatever. Don't mess with pro BW!

GomTV will only be able to run GomTV starleague, there won't be a pro league participating. They'll fight for the 40k prize money offered every 3 months. There are so many people who think that conditions for progamers will improve if Blizzard is in charge. They wrong, conditions will only improve if there are esports dollars. That money will have to come from the huge corporate sponsors or the audience. Unfortunately, esports fans have a history of not being willing to pay for esports so no revenue can be generated through ticket sales. The good news for foreigners is that they will provide an english stream. If they arrange it the same way as the last season of GomTV. Then there will be a free version and a paid version. Free viewers will have access to a 320*240 stream and LQ vods after a 3 day delay. Members will have access to a 640*480 stream and HQ vods with a DRM download option asap. I remember that they charged $50 for premium in the last season of GOM Starleague. why cant the sponsors of the proleague teams just advertise on another channel, and put their teams into a different competition? surely a TV station would pay for broadcasting rights if its something that will attract viewers? is there any chance of new teams being created with new sponsors? im not sure how it all exactly works

Why would any company fund something that is only on internet with small audience.. Im not paying anything to watch people play a game like Im not paying anything to watch football.. It will end up like it is now outside Korea with no teams and just some guys playing it as a hobby..

Whats the difference with kespa having the monopoly of RIGHTS for broadcasting, than gomtv having them? OSL/MSL will continue to run (if OGN/MBC want to run them), and im sure GOM will negotiate OGN/MBC to split PL broadcasting rights.

Blizzard already said no to these Corporate sponsors. So they're probably not enthusiastic about sponsoring SC2 now.

Because KesPA is a corporation, GOM is a company - GOM wants to knock out it's competitors, which is why they won't license OSL/MSL.

It's a pretty good negotiation tactic. The windows have been deliberately left open on the Gom deal so that Kespa can still surrender and negotiate a settlement which leaves SC1 more or less in place. Blizzard is also counting on any potential lawsuit ruling in its favour.

Kespa is run like a company, and it wanted to knock out its competitors (blizzard, gom) which is why it wouldnt license GOM. See my point? GOM said they are happy to negotiate with OGN/MBC and it would be silly for them not to, given the fans expect the services, and they can make money from deals which cost them little to make.
